The Dark Knight Rises Where's the BATARANGS?

I must say I was really looking forward to seeing Batman breaking out the Batarangs a little more in TDK, but alas this didn't happen.

For a weapon that is so iconic and so heavily used in both the comics and in TAS, I really hope they get more use in Batman 3.

Anybody agree? Also I think it would be great (in addition to the smaller 'Shuriken' types he uses currently) to see a larger, curved model; closer to a 'Boomerang' shape.

as much as i know deep in my heart and soul this thread will get closed,

I fully and wholeheartedly agree with you.

Seems like he wanted to beat people more in TDK. Why cross a room to elbow a guy instead of throwing the missle weapons you carry on you?

At least once?

:thing: :thing: :thing:

Or better yet, why knock a guy over a ledge when you can just knock the gun out of his hand from a distance?

This is why, as much as I hate to say it, I think that Nolan's skipping the batarangs so far. Maybe Bruce'll have made some by the third film, possibly as a result of the situation at the end of TDK. I dunno. I totally agree, they should be there, but two films without it, including a situation where it really could have been used, are kind of making me doubt we'll see them in Nolan's films.

Nolan can only do so much. He had more fighting in the first one and then wanted to explore the investigative side in the second film.

The only place where I think he could have used the small metal ones we saw in BB, was in the HK skyscraper. He could have broken the windows as a way out instead of having that explosion. :oldrazz: But the sticky bomb gun was cool.

Even if Batman could have knocked the gun out of Harvey's hand, he could have simply grabbed the boy and jumped over the ledge if he were so inclined.

Even in BB, he just uses the batarangs for breaking glass. He could possibly throw them at someone, but now he's got those blades on the gauntlets as well, which proved useful when his arms were otherwise incapacitated. :funny:

You can only do so much when you have to make room for that explosive gun thing, hydraulic arm dealies, etc.

Well, to throw a batarang, you have to whip one out of your utility belt, assume a throwing stance, and whip it at the target.

That's three steps whereas just full-force lunging at someone only takes one step, a leaping one at that.

Erego, lunging is more effective and more realistic

[/sarcasm and useless overexplanation]

I wonder if he even had Batarangs anymore. Or did he replace them with those gaunlet things that he cut Joker's face with.

He puts a few into a case when he's clearing up the Batbunker. So he definitely still has them.

That it never occurred to me Batman didn't use batarangs in TDK suggests how much I care for them. I mean, to say they're 'iconic' is pushing it. But sure, if they're in the next one I certainly won't complain. Just as long as we don't have a repeat of THAT batarang scene from BR.

They are definitely iconic. It's a known element of Batman. Thus why it was used in Begins, yet sadly forgotten in TDK.

Kinda like Spider-man's funny quips in SM2. Aside from "Here's your change!" There wasn't a wise-ass remark out of him.

Little slices of the mythos life like that appease me greatly.

However i will say that Bruce Wayne tossing the wine over the edge was a nice touch. That made me happy. lol

Yeah, but he had that sweet...gun...thing...

I would like to see Batarangs return as well. Also, the sadly forgotten smoke pellets first seen in Batman Begins. I mean I wouldn't complain if I didn't see them, BUT seeing them does add a very nice touch.

If we're being pedantic, I don't think the 'batarangs' from BB could even count as being such anyway. They were more like custom ninja stars. If Batman threw them at you, you'd have much greater problems than simply being knocked out.

They had batarangs in BB. They showed bruce making them in the cave and he used one to knockout the lights at the docks where the drug shipment was taking place. He also had two in his hands when he about to kill Raz, he used one to break the window of the train and one to blow out the back so he could escape.

Now that being said... I can see what you mean with the batarangs their usage was very limited and non existant in TDK if i remember correctly. Nevertheless i completely agree with you and would like to see more batarangs the next time around.

For a third film...We definitely need some batarangs...But unlike in Begins...I would like to see a variety of sizes...Because the ones in Begins are way to small!

they were more like Bat-shiruken or Batstars or....well, they weren't Batarangs, that's what I was getting at

i'm sure Jonathan Nolan probably visits these boards...so here goes:

Hey Nolan! For the next Bat-film, put in at least one scene where Bats uses a Batarang. To disarm a thug or to whack a perp in the head with it! Ok thanks bye.:bat:

I honestly don't know that the creators know how to use Batman's gadgets to full effect. Hell, he gets those firing things...and he uses them once?

The one use gadget is very Bond-esque, but they were certainly used at a pivotal moment at least. Surprised they didn't mortally wound the Joker quite frankly.

I'd actually advocate for Batman to use less gadgets. I know it sounds ridiculous given the character's history, but that whole aspect of it slightly detracts from the romanticism/mysticism of Batman.

Batman could have used his Batarangs/Shiruken in a number of scenes in TDK. The Hong Kong kidnapped,The Swat fight or to disarm Two-Face.....

Much as I hate 'em, I'd rather have the launching gauntlets than batarangs.
