Honestly the final scene in DOFP felt like a closer on the original cast. And it was a great way to close the book on them. Like now they can continue with the younger cast which are very popular right now in terms of appeal (J.Law, Fassbender, McCavoy) and recast from there. So re-introduce and re-cast Cyclops, Jean Grey, etc as their younger selves.

Edit: Sharkboy and I got the same impression apparently.

Except we don't know how many of FC cast will be sticking around after Apocalypse.

You only need Xavier and Beast. Maybe only Xavier. No actor is bigger than the franchise despite how popular Lawrence is at the moment.

I'm sure a good X-Men movie can be made with Xavier, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Jean, Gambit and Nightcrawler. Add in a new villain and some other characters. They can't keep playing the same Xavier/Magneto/Wolverine angle forever.

Professor X telling Wolverine they had a lot of catching up to do says no to me.

That is the feeling I got, as well. This film gave me nostalgia for the original series, but in a way that made me feel closure to it. I really feel that it bookends that era so nicely, so I'd rather see them focus on the FC cast and other things instead.

I'm sure we will get another present day X-Men based film at some point. But, who knows how much of the original cast will be in it by the time it happens. But, for the characters we know and love by this point, I felt like it was over.

The way the film ended, it opened up a range of possibilities for future films. FC films can go their own way without being confined by what happened in the OT (though we know where they ought to end up), and the OT films can continue now that certain limits set by X3 have been removed.

But to be honest, I felt like this was a swan song for the OT cast. I would like to be proven wrong, though.

Well people thought the OT cast was done after X3 and when First Class was released. So we shall see.

As a fan of the OT cast, I just don't think what we saw in DOFp is enough, yeah it was great but they were there for like 20 to 30 minutes. Fox would hype it up as their "swan song" if this was really their swan song.

True, people said they'd never get them back together and then DOFP came about. I enjoy the OT cast more as well, mostly because it's the cast I grew up with and let's be honest, the character roster is far better than that of the FC films (Apocalypse could effectively even them out).

But there are other things to take into account as well -- mainly, the ages of the OT cast members (I'm not an ageist, honestly; it's just how the studio and GA may perceive it), and the current uber-popularity of FC cast members -- you got to strike iron while it's hot, no? That's why I feel another OT cast film may not be the studio's priority at least until 2018 or 2020, at best.

DoFP certainly feels like a Swan Song especially with everyone coming back for a mini cameo at the end (except Nightcrawler).

Hmm, as of right now, the OT cast still feels more X-Men to me. Sure, the actors of the First Class cast might be good actors and popular right now, but still even with this film. I still see Patrick Stewart as the definitive Professor X and Ian McKellen as the definitive Magneto. Same with Kelsey Grammer as Beast. And its not like if the OT cast released a film without the FC cast, it wouldn't earn much. One of the reasons why DOFP got so much hype, well a X-Men film haven't had this kind of buzz since X3, is the return of the original cast. Not just because Jennifer Lawrence is more popular or the last 2 X-Men movies were good.

Not to me, listening to what Professor X said to Wolverine.

And still the characters that we will see in Apocalypse, will end up as the characters that we just saw in the altered future. So in a way, Apocalypse will act as a prequel.

As much as I love the First Class cast, I love the Original Trilogy cast even more. There's something more magical seeing them as X-Men. And the fact that the First Class cast's movies will be in the past and they will be Prequel movies and period films, make it even less attractive and thrilling to me since we know Xavier, Scott, Jean, Storm, Beast, Logan, Iceman, Kitty, Rogue will survive in the future. But if we follow the original trilogy cast instead, it will be more exciting since anything can still happen.

But being realistic, I think Fox thinks the first class cast is more attractive to the audience and has more potential because of the younger and more popular Lawrence, Fassbender, and McAvoy instead of the almost 50 year old members of original trilogy. But If I had it my way, the OT will be the stars of the next X movies.

BTW, a question, is it possible to have a Fox network 8-13 episode TV series that is more character and story driven with less action set peices starring the OT cast members except Hugh Jackman (since he's too expensive, he can star alongside the First Class cast in the movies) or is Fox only allowed to have X-Men for movies? You know, I'll accept anything that will allow us to still see the OT cast. Im desperate.

Well if the FC cast was really enough, why bring back the original cast. I read a couple of articles regarding box-office and you know what they say about the original cast - they labeled them as "all-stars rescue" to this franchise when First Class/The Wolverine earned less than their predecessors.

And Fox doesn't have the rights for a live-action X-Men TV series

FOX may well use the bottom line to decide which cast to move forwards with.

To be honest I want to continue with the first class cast only. I really like the OT cast, but for me that chapter is closed. Also I like period pieces, so FC cast for me.

The options seemed limited!

I would vote original cast, but with the current timeline. Before seeing the movie I didnt really care if I ever seen the original cast just as long as the orignal character were developed and included. But this movie did a strange thing and for the first time I feel a real emotional connect to the original cast.

But at the end of the day if Im promised a bad-ass more developed Storm and Gambit (despite casting choices), then I'm 100% on board.

I'm under the impression they will do Apocalypse with the younger cast, then a following movie featuring the original cast, set in the 2010s.

Even if that would be confusing as hell for the average viewer... :o

That 2010's movie is at least 5 years off. All the original cast would be way too old by then.

Or maybe they will do a x men movie beyond the year 2023?

I think the present time for the OC is now 2023 onwards so if they did continue it would be cool to see the future tech.

First Class cast/timeline.

In most cases here:
I prefer watching Fassbender's Magneto than Mckellen's Magneto.
I prefer watching Mcavoy's Xavier than Stewart's Xavier.
I prefer watching Lawrence's Mystique than Romijn's Mystique.
Beast would be the exception. Hoult is merely passable while Grammer's Beast was top-notch.

So if they keep up this trend yeah, I'm substantially more excited to see the First Class cast continue. Iceman, Angel, Storm, Colossus, Sabretooth, Juggernaut, Phoenix and even Cyclops shouldn't be crazy difficult to outdo. While Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, and even Pyro might be the slightly more difficult ones to top but I sure as hell hope that doesnt stop them from trying!

Anyone I didn't mention could pretty much go either way.
