BB would have been much better also if it wasn't for the Rachel Dawes character. It really should have been Harvey Dent but I have a feeling the Studio wanted a love interest.

Yeah TFA had the better love interest. But it also botched the villain for me. RS was really disappointing. We're as Scarecrow and Ra's I found to be really good villains.

Scarecrow started very well but was thrown away as soon as the real villain came in. Him finally being in his true element, only to end up tasered and literally screaming like a girl, was a big blow for me. He was certainly better than Two-Face though which I thought was really bad (Dent was good though) and the main blotch on TDK.

Yeah the DK trilogy had Joker and Ras, but otherwise was very lackluster on villains, imo

the CA trilogy so far has Skull who was decent, I thought, but underdeveloped, WS who was badass but silent, and Pierce who was a master manipulator, but not a physical threat... so more varied but also no standouts like Joker

on the rating front, I'd say-
TFA-7.5
TWS-9.5
CW-?

BB-8
TDK-9.5
TDKR-7

so it's literally neck and neck for me, and if reviews hold up Cap may well vault over the rich boy
and when it comes to popping in a movie to rewatch, it'll definitely be Cap, as much as I love BB and TDK, it feels like work watching those movies

Scarecrow was serviceable but ultimately a pawn that had two noteworthy scenes, little more than a throwaway for a character that could be one of the more compelling villains in a Batman film. Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane is memorable with what little he had to work with which goes to show the strength of his portrayal despite the limited number of scenes. He was also taken out by Katie Holmes which was disappointing.

Red Skull was a classic throw back villain who could have been more menacing but was well done in the film's context.

I probably prefer TFA to BB, TDK to Winter Soldier. I am pretty fond of The Dark Knight Rises, so we will have to wait and see how CW stands up to that.

The Dark Knight trilogy is really in a league of it's own especially being on the short list of CBMs with the same director the whole way through. Captain America, Iron Man and X-Men are not in that category.

C'mon guys, a bit of patience lol. Imagine voting on BvS or even TDK against anything else before they were out. You don't really know the truth till you've seen them and CW is a trilogy capper so even more potential to drop the baton or shoot for glory.

For me BB is much better than TFA and TDK is better than the excellent TWS. But who knows how hard CW will splat TDKR (if it does). I expect that TDK trilogy will win out for me as TFA is a bit too weak to be part of a greatest trilogy and TDKR is slightly less so. But I'm not putting an upper bound on how much I might like CW by voting prematurely.

Nobody should vote in this before Civil War is out

Its 2-2 for me at the moment - I like BB & TDK, but really was underwhelmed by TDKR.

I like both TFA & TWS.

We'll see what happens

If anything, I think the different director thing worked in Cap's favor

for the WWII flick, we had a guy well-known for his classic/retro aesthetic and pulpy action scenes
then jump forward in time, and the directors are more suited to intricately woven, modern plot heavy films with a contemporary action style

Take away Ledger's performance and TDK is another TDKR.

It's not the Godfather, lol.

If it was, it would've won Best Picture, instead it wasn't even nominated.
I don't know if Godfather would have won Best Picture if it had been a superhero ensemble film in 1972!

I liked TDK when I first saw it but I always hated how much of an afterthought Dent was, how boring Bruce Wayne was and how much emphasis they put on Bruce and his love for Rachel.

Ledger's performance is the only reason I ever watch it anymore. Never liked the fight choreography in the movies, the intro scene was pretty cool, but everything when the Joker isn't on screen just doesn't move me. I guess i was always annoyed that it wasnt Talia or Selena as a love interested, who pop up in the third film which I have only watched once because of how disappointing it was, but I honestly think at this point it's people with Nolan goggles looking at this movie.

TFA was fun. It felt like a comic book/old timey pulp adventure film. But TWS is one of those movies I keep rewatching whenever I have the chance. I've watched it twice as much as I've watched TDK.

I love Batman but the TDK and BB were solid movies that ended with a lazy TDKR. To be honest I sometimes have more fun watching BB than TDK. I've come to realize that I love my comic movies fun and entertaining with a good story instead of brooding and realistic.

Civil War seems to continue what TWS is doing so I have no doubt I'll love it and I'd rank the Captain America trilogy over TDKT.

Batman begins and Dark Knight are better than two Cap movies so it already win no matter what Civil war be like. I think Civil war be brilliant though.

I've given this some more thought. One of the reasons Civil War works according to reviews is that you care for all of the characters in it. Civil War has the advantage of having 10 other movies develop characters for it. TDK trilogy had no such advantage so it's really not a fair comparison.

What would Cap 3 be without those other 10 (all but Thor 2 & GotG) movies to lay foundations for half of the characters? Would CW be as good if it wasn't Avengers 2.5 as well as Cap 3?

those questions can all only be addressed once we've actually seen the film
so once again, this is very premature

Begins is a bit easier to rewatch than TDK, that movie is like commencing a mission. It's very tense throughout most of the movie and I remember feeling stressed out watching it in the theater (not necessarily a bad thing, made for a fun, intense time at the cinema but not something I particularly care for watching it again at home.)

Switching up directors did work out well for Captain America, most of the MCU switch ups have actually. I didn't mean it as a pro or con when I mentioned it before, just an observation. Only The Dark Knight trilogy and the Spider-Man trilogy have that little accolade to claim.

Regarding the time spent with characters working in CW's favor, perhaps a point could be made that those Batman films had the advantage of being the second go around on Batman, having an opportunity to learn from the films that came before them.

As well as the other issue of TDKT finished 4 years ago and even if this thread was more correctly posted at least after CW opened, you run the risk that you see so often on SHH, 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10 reviews regardless of quality. (See BvS, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man 3, TASM2, etc.) My point to be able to take a step back and absorb it instead of a quick reactionary post.

Closed until both trilogies can be seen in their entirety.
