I Keep hearing from people that some Batman villains probably won't be used or allowed because the general public doesn't know who the character is and they won't sell tickets. Having been a Batman fan most of my life, but not really one who often discusses it with friends and family, I can say I honestly don't know who these characters are. Is it ones who were never in the older television series? Because to be honest I think most of the audience for the newer movies is much too young to remember that anyways....Is it the ones who were not in the animated series? Because Rhas Al Ghul was never in that if I remember right and the Riddler, who was used in the earlier film series was probably only in 2 or 3 episodes....

What makes this more confusing is the fact that apparently Nolan doesn't want to use a villain who has already been portrayed on film or in the old tv series again and this seems to narrow down our choices a lot....So if we pretend this is a completely honest statement who does that leave and how well do you know them?

Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Hush, Black Mask, Talia al Ghul, Clayface, Hugo Strange, Deadshot, Man Bat, Maxie Zeus, The Ventriloquist, Batzarro, The Terrible Trio, Great White Shark, Doctor Phosphorus, The Reaper, Lady Shiva, Calander Man and about 4 or 5 dozen really lame people not worth mentioning.

Unless I am forgetting someone major, then by my own deductions, If that is really everyone we have to choose from, then Nolan is going to almost surely have to pick either Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane or Mad Hatter, simply because almost everyone I mentioned above has either a weak/unrealistic story or won't work well without an already used character....(Like Hush without Riddler or Black mask without Penguin or Catwoman)

Well....I only know the batman villians from the TAS series...

On the whole the general public is probably only familiar with Joker, Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, and maybe Scarecrow.

I really think you are shooting yourself in the foot here on his and the studios intentions. You have at least three competing interests in this. DC would love to get some of the lesser known villians out in to the mainstream. WB really wants to make money, so they want the "well known" villians. Nolan was not that versed in this universe initially which is why Goyer got involved, he is looking for the best characters for the roles in the story he is trying to tell...and that is key.

Nolan went to WB about doing this, not the other way around. It is true that WB wanted to reboot Batman, but apparently Nolan sold them on his idea at least to some extent.

Now if this little experiment works, by using so many villians/roles, you can mix it up. If WB was wise to this, this can set a new epoch where a whole new set of those from the rogues gallery is well known.

So keep an open mind!

General public is familiar with the movie villains and maybe, very slitly have some clue on the cartoon villains from TAS.

I guess there was more that was relevant that I did not add. It does not seem as though it's the characters Nolan is staying away from but something else. He is using different storylines, arcs, inspirations, more origin based, etc.

The ones known to the General Public: Joker, Riddler, Catwoman, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Ivy, Harley Quinn and Scarecrow.

KILLER MOTH!

Respect him damn YOU! :bh:

Whoa...too many Red Bulls. Sorry...:csad:

Killer Croc. and I hope that he'll be the villain of the third movie if, and only if, they really decide to not use The Riddler

Playing up on the whole Batman drawing more Crazies to the city, i'd like to see the Ventriloquist show up. Maybe have Croc be in his Gang, cuz theres noway he could carry a movie by himself.

Hmmm based in public knowledge of Batman villains, it seems Manbat comes in 1st place. Lets hope WB doesn't go off that.

Well, if they do go with Manbat, that would at least introduce batman to the Fantastic side of this bergoning Cinematic DC Universe. If not Man Bat, then at least Hugo Strange and his Monster Men.

But my moneys on Riddler and Catwoman for the next one. Though Nolan seems to be too wall eyed on Pinguin, who would translate quite easily into the Gotham Nolan has set up so far as a simple mob boss minus the gimmick umbrulla guns. Though I fail to see how much better a guy like the Riddler would fit into such a Gotham.

I think Riddler could be the biggest.
he could come trying to spread the chaos that the Joker so wanted. but in a different way, to be more effective. he could say that it was Joker's ideas the motive why he became the Riddler and he tries to mirror himself in that villain, making a question mark in the forehead (kinda like Bullseye's in the Daredevil movie), since Joker was also scarred. make him a psycho, like the Joker. he plays with people, making riddles for them, for Gotham, for his final game. if he gets wrong answers, he destroys something big. getting too many wrong answers would be the end of Gotham. this would be the final chance of Gotham's rendition. he thinks this would tear the city apart, but the people of Gotham would eventually help each other to solve the riddles, to stop him, showing that Gotham is getting better after all this time. the dawn is really coming. he could also discover Batman's identity and play with his secret.
I think he would be the best choice.

Not bad, but I think its too much like The Dark Knight.

Eh, everytime they tried to make Riddler more of a threat than he really is it just looks silly. Like that time he got that hit put on him by all the other Bat villains, almost got killed by Ivy, and went crazy for a little while, resulting in him beating Green Arrow up with a baseball bat. Didn't work. Riddler just screams campy, and if you try to make him more than what he is you often end up failing. Lets face it, besides the whole inability to lie so he tells on himself by coming up with riddles, the guys not even remotely crazy.

Pretty much all the villains not used in the films or animated series are probably very unfamiliar to the general public.

Even I have never heard of The Reaper and The Great White Shark.

The only ones I know nothing about are The Great White Shark, Doctor Phosphorus, and The Reaper...

I figured the general public knew who Harley Quinn is particularly if they watched the animated series.

Voted Batzarro, I don't think I've ever read anything beginning-to-end anything with him in it. Don't think i want to,

I don't think anyone in the general public knows who Black Mask is.
