I was thinking Fede Alvarez might be a good choice.

I've seen Matthew Vaughn mentioned a few times, though I'd say that's unlikely

Fede is a horror suspense director.

Matthew is a good choice.

Personally Tim Lord & Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street)

Runners up: Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim) or James Gunn (see Super)

Fede is a horror suspense director.

Obviously. So was James Gunn and the Director to Doctor Strange. Doesn't mean they can't Direct a comic book film. Don't Breathe was very well Directed.

We won't be getting James Gunn or Lord and Miller. They are busy with other big franchises. And after Ant-Man Wright will not be jumping on this. He won't want to join into something that's pretty much the same situation.

James Gunn is finished with GOTG2...he has no current projects and he was one of the first prominent people to comment on the Deadpool director gate. I think there is a strong chance he would do it...

What does Lord and Miller have on their slate?

I would wager actual money Fede Alvarez will not be the director of Deadpool 2 lol

I think he is a great director (Fede) but he hasn't proven he can do anything else besides horror and his style would not lend itself very well to Deadpool's tone...

Lord and Miller are busy with Han Solo and an Animated Spider-Man film at Sony. Gunn won't be ditching GOTG at Marvel to come to Fox.

Pretty sure the likely hood of getting a big name Director is small. We are likely to get someone from the more low budget side of things. Which I have no issues with given they can Direct regardless of their genre. Who would have thought Jon Favreau would be one of the best family Directors out there when Swingers and Made came out?

I see. I just hope they can maintain the same tone...comedic-anything is possible-4th wall breaking-light hearted-R-rated-Tarantinoesque-Tim Miller -The Office improv-indie film poking fun at comic book movie tropes never taking itself too seriously vibe

That seems to be part of the issue on why Miller is gone. Reynolds wants the same tone and Miller wanted to explore something different.

I think it needs a bit of both tbh.

If Gunn wasn't so tied to GOTG he would be my top choice.

I'm satisfied if they keep the exact same tone. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I see Deadpool 2 like my favourite Saturday morning cartoon..just add Cable and Domino to the mix and add more jokes more unexpected pop culture references and 4th wall breaking and have a better villain...

Tim Miller is going to be tough to replace...besides directing duties I read he was also largely responsible for visual fx and working under a tight budget.

James Gunn hasn't finished Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The movie is still in post-production. Directors do not just point cameras and tell actors what to do on set. They stick until the very end, and work on every aspect of the movie.

You do know that directors are perfectly capable of switching genres and tone, right?

Richard Donner was mostly known for The Omen before directing Superman. Adam McKay went from Anchorman to The Big Short.

Fede Alvarez would be a good pick. Other names which come to mind are:

- Joe Cornish
- Jim Mickle
- Adam Wingard
- David Leitch & Chad Stahelski
- Edgar Wright

But I can't see any directors with a strong personality wanting the job, considering the reasons Tim Miller left.

Maybe it's going to be Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's debut as directors. They've been talking about wanting to direct, and they seem to have a great relationship with Ryan Reynolds.

Joe Cornish is a good choice

Maybe Joe Carnahan?

That's also cause they didn't have the money. Things have changed on that route since this is now one of Foxs top properties.

But yeah, having someone invested in comics and knowing their ropes around the vfx world definitely played a huge part here. Shame there couldn't be an agreement.

I agree.

Some fans are petitioning for Quentin Tarantino to direct Deadpool 2:

https://www.change.org/p/ryan-reynolds-tarantino-for-deadpool-2?recruiter=614679944&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_for_starters_page&utm_term=mob-xs-google%2Cgoogle-no_msg

If there was ever a chance to see Tarantino do a project almost guaranteed to make a billion dollars, this is it. We got a great taste of what this could be like in Kill Bill, but imagine having a guy like Tarantino write dialogue for The Merc with the Mouth! It would be so glorious. Join me! .

I said this in the other thread and is a more risky choice but Adam Berg he is an unknown director who has done commercials and short films very much like Tim Miller, who if you remember was a top contender to direct Deadpool back in 2010
http://collider.com/adam-berg-deadpool-ryan-reynolds/

his Short Film Carousel most likely inspired the Deadpool Opening Credits

- Edgar Wright

- Robert Rodriguez

- Matthew Vaughn

- Ruben Fleischer

I liked both Zombieland and Gangster Squad, but I think Tim Miller did so much more with a Rhett Reese / Paul Wernick script. I don't think Fleischer's direction went all out with all the tonal shifts, and kept it too comedic. I wouldn't like that for Deadpool 2.

Gunn wouldn't do another superhero property. At this point, he even seems ambivalent about even coming back for another GoTG film. The man probably wants to pursue other creative avenues, especially since he'll probably have a lot of freedom after the success of his Marvel films.

I want Vaughn for the flagship X-Men (either him or McQuarrie) so no to that. I'd just like someone who is knowledgeable about the X-Men world, passionate and can also contribute their own unique piece to the Deadpool puzzle.

But if they wanted someone a bit bigger name and up and coming, perhaps Dan Trachtenberg? Justin Roiland of Rick and Morty? But I'd like to hope that Ryan finds someone out of the box like Marvel does.

A comeback for John McTiernan, maybe?

Joe Cornish would be solid attack the block is great and he was on the shortlist to direct gambit so he is on FOX's radar

Nope. I doubt McTiernan would even consider Deadpool 2, even if he was offered it. I think someone along the lines of Reuben Fleischer is realistic.

Heck, I'll even say Seth MacFarlane would be a fun choice for this. That's just me though...

Petitions are stupid and Change.org is the stupidest. Despite having only a minuscule number of signatures, somehow it's newsworthy that one idiot on the internet thinks Tarantino would actually direct Deadpool 2 because of some garbage petition.

Why is this newsworthy? Why is it even talked about? OK, someone on Change.org posted a dumb petition to get Tarantino to direct Deadpool 2.

I think we all know for a fact that Tarantino would never direct this movie. Tarantino only likes to write and direct his own films. He doesn't want to make a comic book movie. He's said that too.

Also, I know people love Tarantino, but what makes everyone so sure he's a good fit for Deadpool? I don't see it.

Lars Von Trier. I want to see Deadpool bash in someone's d*** until it starts spurting blood.

-> *Don Coscarelli* <- Godsend pick for a Deadpool movie
----
Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, didn't get to finish Gangster Squad)
Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Zombieland series pilot)
---- I have serious doubts on how well Reese and Wernick can pull off DP2 if its their directorial debut ----

Names You'd Recognize, Highly Unlikely
Joe Carnahan (only seen The A-Team)
Sam Raimi
Edgar Wright
Matthew Vaughn

More Fantasy Picks
Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths)
Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry)
Todd Strauss-Schulson (The Final Girls, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas)
Paco Cabezas (Mr. Right = quite honestly the slickest adaptation of a Max Landis screenplay)
Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50)

Massive Stretch Because I know Taika Waititi will be unavailable and it's unclear how much involvement his compadre had in this one & only film
Jermaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows)

Don Coscarelli directing a movie like Deadpool 2 is never going to happen. It would never happen in a million years.

Here's one name I will throw out there. Dexter Fletcher.
