Nintendo's mascot is Mario. And Mario is so synonymous with video games, that so is Nintendo. Not only Mario, but Pokemon as well; Pikachu is definitely another Nintendo mascot, but Pokemon is much more than just video games. Then we have Link & Zelda, and the list goes on. Nintendo has the most recognized 1st party characters. That's why super smash bros is one of their biggest franchises.

Microsoft has Master chief and cortana. and marcus fenix or whoever that guy is too. whenever someone thinks xbox, they think halo, and last gen, gears of war was the new big thing.

But who is Sony's PlayStation mascot? Or at least their most well known, most identifiable one?

I'd say at this point it is Nathan Drake, although I was hoping for there to be one who's been on the series of consoles since the first iteration. crash and spyro defined playstation back then, but neither of those are just playstation anymore. there's also kratos, sackboy, jak, ratchet, sly cooper, cole, but NONE of these characters were around since Ps1.

If you ask me, for the cutesy mascot if they event want one, should be Toro

however, even with characters like parappa and spike, to me, the true playstation mascot will always be jin kazama. i don't care if its 3rd party. can you think of any other gaming series besides tekken (NEVERMIND that it is 3rd party and now multiplatform) that has stayed exclusive to playstation since Ps1? I can't.

jin kazama is the playstation man.

what would've sealed the deal for me is if he was somehow included in Uc2's playstation heroes dlc

Multi-platform or not, this guy (and his associated franchise) has always been synonymous with Playstation to me:

damn. i should've added him to the poll. i was contemplating doing so but ultimately decided against it coz i didn't think anyone would want him.

boy was i wrong.

Ironically Crash Bandicoot.

I saw Snake and Lara Croft as unofficial mascots. And the guy from Tekken... you know, the one.

it ain't the other guy. can't be the other guy. it can be only this guy

and i don't think you can consider lara croft an unofficial mascot anymore, wat with wat microsoft's been tryna do...

Well now yes, but in the original Playstation's heyday, she was.

yeah i suppose. i remember psm used to feature her pretty prominently.

and i'm pretty sure the Ps3 version of TR sold better than the 360 version yeah?

He may not be a Sony exclusive character any more, but I'd think it most certainly is Crash.

I'd also say Cloud as well.

You know, I wouldn't even say that they have one. One thing about Sony is that from generation from generation, they've sort of discarded their "mascots" for newer ones. This gen seems like it might be different with Uncharted and LBP seemingly staying around, but there's never been a consistent face of Sony.

I would say ratchet. There have been like 10 ratchet and clank games and some of those guys in this poll I have never even heard of before.

I noticed this too, but I don't think it's a good thing. One of the reasons nintendo has the best IPs is because they've been so invested in each of the consoles of the respective generations, each time. it's also why their IPs never sell as well as nintendo's or even microsoft's either. playstation just doesn't seem to have high attach rates most of the time.

that being said, I think jin kazama involuntarily and unofficially became a mascot for playstation since he's appeared on Ps1, 2, and 3 exclusively, most of the time

Being a mascot is more than just being in exclusive games. Mascots are something that's inherently tied to a brand. Mario and Nintendo are synonymous. Sega and Sonic are synonymous. A character from a now multiplat franchise that I doubt many people know the actual name of? I don't see how one can think of that as a mascot for any brand, unless maybe for Namco. That's like saying, I don't know, Bayonetta is a Nintendo mascot since she's had more games on a Nintendo platform.

I agree, but none of these characters are THAT synonymous with sony. Jin kazama is synonymous with playstation but not sony itself. I'd like toro to be that character since he's also like cutesy and crap, but he's not well know for playstation at all. Maybe in japan, but not worldwide like Mario and sonic.

I feel like only you feel that. Ive never seen anyone oversell Tekken's important to PS the way you do. Jin himself isnt even the most visible character from that franchise, let alone PS as a whole

I would agree with this as well. The closest thing they currently have to one, well two are Nathan and Sackboy who cater to two different audiences

Yeah I'm aware of that, havok. I'm not the ONLY one because we have this and he appears on that list. But he definitely is the most recognizable character from Tekken. in t1 kazuya was the main character, t2 it was heihachi, and then from 3 and up it's been jin. also 3 was what turned tekken into one of the biggest gaming franchises (at the time anyway), and that's when jin was introduced.

In nearly every crossover appearance, the character used is Heihachi. He tends to be the go to representative of the Tekken franchise as he's appeared in numerous games as a solo character as the face of the series. Jin? He's never been used in that capacity. Namco doesnt hold him to the high pedestal that you do as they dont use him to promote the franchise outside of their games. They do with Heihachi. Thats why I cant see how Jin is the mascot of the PS brand when he isnt even that for his own franchise

they use heihachi because he's katsuhiro harada's favorite character. in most crossover appearances you're right, he does tend to be the tekken representative but that's more likely because he's been in every single tekken game. jin was namco's main crossover tekken rep in project x zone and namco x capcom

I don't think anything ever really replaced Crash Bandicoot once he lost his mascot status.

games, which also featured Heihachi....
