How do you envisioned the future of this console? Will it survive, or will they be the new Sega and die?
Things are not looking good so far, not good at all....

It start as funny, then it was "i told you so", now, when they start to plead, is not funny anymore.
But, it´s a humbling experience for them, in contrast to the sheer arrogance of the past year, "we are the best" kind of crap.

From Gamespot:

San Jose Mercury News' Dean Takahashi claims the PlayStation-maker has been humbly asking outside publishers to be patient with its labor-intensive platform.

Last week ended with game-industry analysts bemoaning "dismal" sales of the PlayStation 3 this past September. However, all the number-crunching obscured a nugget of potentially more troubling news for the future of Sony's console.

In his latest column, San Jose Mercury News columnist Dean Takahashi claims that this year, "Sony [has] pleaded with third-party developers not to abandon its struggling platform. That change in attitude is a marked difference compared to the arrogance of past years."

Takahashi concurs with the widespread opinion that the PS3 is being sliced with a double-edged sword: Development for its games is labor-intensive, while its installed base lags behind that of the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. As of the end of September, only around 1.9 million units of the PS3 had sold in the US since the system launched in November 2006, according to research firm the NPD Group.

By contrast, just over 4.5 units of the Wii, which also launched last November, have been sold. The Xbox 360 has moved around 6.8 million units domestically since its November 2005 launch despite a highly public--and expensive--hardware failure problem.

"The argument is that the PS3 will show its strength as developers learn how to make games for it," surmised Takahashi. "But developers know they can staff four or five Wii teams with the same number of people it takes to make one PS3 game. We may have a glut of Wii games soon, but that's not as bad as not having enough games on the PS3."

They will survive and continue with the same attitude

I say this because the price cut was expected which explains dismal sales and this Christmas will show that people want the console but not as much as SONY expected at the price they set out

sigh, this topic has been talked to death

It's not gonna be Dreamcast part II, because first you need Saturn and maybe a 32X. I don't think PS3 will even be a Saturn, Sony's not gonna abandon this console, but I think it'll be the third place system this generation and next gen Sony will correct the mistakes they made and go back to what made them a success in the first place.

What?
That Sony is starting to plead for 3rd parties don´t abandon them? Sure, they have a lot of internal studio games, and those are a given that are exclusive (duh!), but, even so, if they lose third-parties, they are as dead as they come.

But the thing is, just like the PS2, making games for the Sony console is a pain in the ass.
Is easier and more satisfaying to make games for the Wii or the 360.
When the PS2 was alone in the game (Nintendo was never big on 3rd parties, Sega was dead and the Xbox was still a newborn) was one thing, but now....

I dont know how often you visit this forum or hte misc, but this topic comes up alot. Theres several threads basically about the same thing regarding the PS3's progress and future. Another poster just started one a few days ago asking what can Sony do to save itself and its on the first page

Dude, you don't even know what your own thread is about. If I remember correctly, it said something about "the future of the PS3". There are other threads just like this. You could've posted your new info on a thread that was already established. That's what he meant.

PSP sales are still amazing, so no, the gaming division isn't going anywhere.

Wow. I'm starting to sense a little trepidation from the 360 fans. How many of these threads have we seen in this forum since the price cut announcements? It is pretty funny actually. Listen, let's talk about the fabled dimise of the PS3 after this Christmas. Or at the very least let the system be out two years before proclaiming it on it's last leg. Next year is when 360 fans really start to sweat and I for one cannot wait.

i think sony's getting a bit of the humble pie like nintendo before them, and right now its going down rough because failure is not something one prepares themselves for. no onle goes "oh im probably going to screw up today so i should prabably adjust my hopes way lower so i dont get disapointed." Nintedo was probally taking a few cold showers to try and wake themselves up from the disbelief of a second place finish to sony(the newcomer). but hopefully they learn from this experience and come back with fresh ideas and a little less "we're sony we can make anything and ppl will but. because we're sony!" attitude that has everyone bashing it left and right.

we all may not agree on everything but therre is one thing we can agree on....Fire that PR dummy Jack Trenton.....my god he shoots more bullets into sonys foot than anyone else! at every turn when sony has tried to clean up house he throws in some stupid comment that makes everything sony is trying to do look completely useless..i know PRs are the hype men for their resective companis but Jack........not so much.

There will be a Playstation 4, but I doubt that we're going to see an as arrogant Sony.

The choices are sound of skewed. :\ I think the days of 'arrogant Sony' are over though. Ken K is gone and, aside from 1 idiotic PR man who's soon to be gone and the head of SCEEurope... they're pretty cool dudes.

they are pretty good to me, but then again im a self proclaimed "sony hater" as some would say so you'll have to take my opinion at face value ;)

I bet they've been humbled a little bit. If the PS3 sells like crazy this Christmas I hope it doesn't go to their head.

They will survive, but this whole thing has been a huge stumble for Sony. They will think before they leap next time.

The PS 3 will survive, but i'm asking myself a question...Will Xbox360 survive?
Because if you can't play MGS 4, what about the games that will come a few years later?

Yeah, because MGS4 is going to make or break the 360...

The 360 isn't going anywhere. Xbox Live is one of the most expansive online gaming systems ever. NExt thing you know, you'll be allowed to Download the full games if you pay for them. Or download the demo, then have it like the arcade games, where you can unlock the full version, and play it straight from your drive.

I mean seriously, to think that Microsoft, the king of all scrappers is going to let their 360 die, is an insult.

It's not an insult and it's not a secret that the PS3 has better hardware than Xbox360, i'm just saying that Microsoft should release a new console after a few years.........To catch up with the POWER that is Playstation 3!

Well yeah, they arn't stupid.

I mean seriously, this is Microsoft we're talking about here. They know how to run things. But it's in the same boat that PS2 was with the XBox. Xbox had superior specs compared to PS2, but the PS2 was also out before the Xbox. It's just the natural order of electronics.

The minute you buy your brand new "best computer" and plug it in, its already 'obsolete' compared to others.

this guy comes off as a fanboy sometimes but he makes great points. i agree with about 80 to 90 percent of what he said. he has some brainfarts so try to pay attention to what he saying instead of how he sounds...hehe
That guy is just stupid, he doesn´t even know how to talk, much less make a video about the 360 vs the PS3, he is an insult for both consoles.
He goes over and over about the same thing, without making much sense

"The PS3 is the future....", there is no future for a console, because the future is the PS4
I already said this in the MS board, even if Sony wins this generation war, the PS3 is the worst move they ever made.

The PS 3 will survive, but i'm asking myself a question...Will Xbox360 survive?
Because if you can't play MGS 4, what about the games that will come a few years later?
???
Will be the 360 survive? Are you for real? Not sounding like a fanboy, which i´m not, i love my PS2 and i didn´t had an Xbox, but that is just stupid.
Can´t play MGS4, how come?
If you watch "The Bonus Round" of game trailers, there is an episode about gaming blogs where the guy from Joystick (i might be wrong and might be the guy from the other) say that MGS 4 will be on the 360, just is not officially yet.
First, i don´t believe it will be on the 360, but if it is, it can clearly run Metal Gear 4, in fact, that´s not even an issue.
So yeah, the 360 will survive, in fact, that´s the first time i hear someone asking that

It's a PS 3 exclusive, Kojima himself said that MGS4 won't run on the 360, because of it's HD player and few more things the 360 hardware can't bare...

I´m going to tell you a little secret...............gaming platforms are about one thing and one thing alone, GAMES.
The 360 has them, the PS3 needs to put their act together and start making great ones (Tools of Destruction and Uncharted are the only two great ones out there).
So, the all POWER of the PS3 is stupidity at his best (not calling you stupid, bare that in mind before freaking out).
The PS3 is more powerful than the 360, of course it is, that´s not even an issue, even MS say that it is.
The question is, can they use it?
The answer is, so far, NO.

When the 360 came out, some people were disappointed because they were expecting life like images.
Like some said at that time, maybe next generation, or even the next after that, never for this one, people that were expecting it were morons.
The same goes to the PS3....
The PS3 is too "powerful" for this generation, it will not use 60% of it´s capacities, and when it does, MS will release the X3 and Sony the PS4, so, the PS3 will alway be seen as the most expensive and irrelevant hardware out there.
MS was much smarter than Sony this generation.

Sony wanted so much to kick the Xbox, that they went insane....
