Ant-Man Who should direct Ant-man?

I would suggest watching some of the show before checking out those episodes. "Restless" hinges on callbacks to past episodes and doesn't really make much sense outside of the context of the rest of the show, and while "The Body" is relatively standalone, the episode's emotional impact is much more effective if you've seen other episodes before.

"The Body", in my opinion, remains one of the single best episodes of television, any television show, EVER.

It's tied for first place for "Noel" from season two of The West Wing for me.

The Russo's are journeymen directors who were coming off of a flop. You can control guys like that.

The Russos were coming off several years of producing and directing Community and that's the work that caught Feige's eye. They came in with a very detailed pitch and they had extensive meetings over months before they were hired. From all their interviews they had very little interference. That from the start they were all on the same page - writers, directors, producers. They had the same creative vision for the character and the story.

Marvel even though it's owned by Disney is still run like an independent studio with Feige at it's head. Each and every film is part of the MCU and while there is leeway in tone and subject matter in the end they're all one piece of a larger universe. So there has to be someone who keeps it all straight and in line - otherwise it wouldn't work.

This is similar to James Bond with the Broccolis except they are known for far more micro-managing of productions. It's cost them more high profile directors but in the end they've had a series that's lasted 50 years.

I don't think so, my guess would be more that they just found a higher profile director they could work with in Mendes. These are producers that have been known to micro-manage/have input on the outfit on the fifth girl to the right sitting at the pool for 32 seconds.

I had thought Adam McKay as a possibility due to his connection with Rudd but he hasn't really done action before. Yes, the news team fights in Anchorman could count, but they're still small scale.

Who do u guys like out of the 4 names being passed around?? Personally, I like Fleischer or D'Esposito. They have done action and Ruben has proven he can throw in some comedy as well. I hate the idea of Antman being straight up comedy so the other two are completely out imo.

Marvel is likely feeling some pressure right about now. If the names of those candidates are correct, they could just toss it to Louis D’Esposito since he's a company man who will do whatever the company tells him to.

I have no clue whether or not to trust the reports that the script is so bad that it's unsalvageable, but if that is true, I'd rather Marvel just delay that movie til the holiday season...admit their mistakes and try to get Wright back or something. I'd hate for Marvel to start throwing movies at the wall just for the sake of having movies.

i have never read an ant man comic so my interest in this (outside expanding the marvel universe) largely came from Edgar Wright being involved. It seems to me his directing style (he handles action/fight scenes very well imo while still bringing comedy) seems like it would have being the perfect fit..

With that said, i could see Brad Bird also being a good fit who does action with comedy very well. It would be good to see Bird on a marvel film some time anyway. He would be my shout to replace Whedon if/when he steps down.

If they're perhaps wanting someone a bit cheaper (and i'm just spitballing now) there's Chuck Russel (doesn't seem to be doing much at th mo), David Gordon Green, Jonathan Levine or the Lord/Miller team.

Then again Marvel haven't being wrong yet in their director choices so I dunno, we'll see i guess...

Brad Bird already made a Marvel movie with his take on the Fantastic Four. And while some choice he made (making Mr. Fantastic female and the mother of Sue and Johnny, adding Quicksilver to the team as third Storm sibling, the absence of the rocky scales with the Thing, changing the titles to The Incredibles, expanding the bromance of Ben and Reed by making them a married couple) were weird, he did get the tone absolutely right. So yeah, great, but very obvious choice.
