Ant-Man Who should direct Ant-man?

I was thinking the other day how he can be seen as sort of an old school Tin Pan Alley type guy, like if he was a songwriter. more like a craftsman, or like you're saying "journeyman". but a good old fashioned working class writer.

For what it's worth, the song writers for the Monkees (who were basically Tin Pan Alley type guys) apparently have distinct styles. I've been told by someone who knows more about them than I do that you can tell one Monkees song writer from another just by listening to the song. And, for what it's worth, Whedon is probably the same way. I can certainly recognize a Whedon TV show or film. And I think Marvel wanted Whedon, Gunn, and Wright because they're recognizable in style. Although I agree that Whedon's background in both Marvel comics and TV shows helped make him easier to work with when it comes to Marvel.

Lou Reed started off in jobs like that, writing about doing the ostrich and stupid stuff like that. but look at the Velvets, first record, it's basically the same structures and songwriting stylisms as ostrich dance songs but in the context of New York avant garde art scene of the time. so it served him well, for sure.

Another good example, of course, is Jimmy Page, who started as a studio musician as well.

Edgars way of working couldve been a problem too. Maybe his style just wasnt right for Marvel. Whatever happened, he left, so...on to the next guy hopefully.

And the next guy, and the next guy, and the next guy...

Why don't they just call Clark Gregg? He's a director now...

He's probably busy with Agents of SHIELD season 2. Ya' know, being the director....of SHIELD.

Actually, it did. He directed a movie, but the movie was made after being killed off in Avengers and before Agents of SHIELD. When asked what it would take to have him direct again, he said "you could kill me off." Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he could direct an AoS episode, but not a blockbuster movie.

Nobody wants to go anywhere near this and it's certainly not flattering to be offered the job after everyone else turned it down, kind of like being the third wheel.

They'll probably end up finding someone with low standards.

I'm starting to think the script is really awful if all of these directors are passing on it.

Best thing to do would be to postpone the release date by a year and get someone like -

Joe Johnston or Neveldine - Taylor.

Who reads scripts these days? Scripts are made to be doctored and rewritten. (And god knows this one has been doctored and rewritten umpteen times since 2006.)

What these guys are passing on has to be concept, filming schedule, pay, or a combination of the three.

I'm throwing a long-shot name out here but... Jonathan Frakes.

I suggested him a week ago. First Contact wasn't bad and since he directed one of the best episodes of AoS is already part of the MCU family. But I'm not sure his visual style is cinematic enough. Then again, surround him with a kick-ass DoP and make sure he stays as close to the storyboards as possible, I'm pretty sure he can pull it off.

They are looking for a comedy Director.

Todd Philips?

It's a shame he probably wont come back to the comic book world but my choice would be Sam Raimi. You can look at Darkman alone and see some Ant-Man possibilities.

At this point Kevin Feige should direct it himself.
