Guardians of the Galaxy Who should direct?

Disney fired Lord and Miller once. I think both parties are probably in agreement not to work together again, at least for a long time. Especially on a space movie. Tim Miller? I could see them interviewing him.

Thats a horrendous idea. You dont use a movie as a freaking bargain chip. Thats a huge disservice.

of course you do - Hollywood is built upon this idea

I agree Guardians is not the movie to do it with, but I am surprised Disney has not made such an offer to Evans already.

I guess the problem is that any MCU movie by definition is now too big and it out of the credits deal negotiations with unproven actors, well for "THE DIRECTOR" credits in any event.

Evans is not even close to being ready to direct superhero tentpoles.

Tim Miller and Matthew Vaughn have been the best suggestions I have seen so far, I doubt the latter would do it though.

If not Waiti, I'll just drop another name: Paul Feig.

I know, many many will immediately get a disgusted face by thinking Ghostbusters.
But the thing is, he's a capable comedy director. Go watch Bridesmaids. Hell, even got McCarthy nominated for an Oscar.
He's proved to know how to mix action and comedy. Go watch Spy. Even Ghostbusters. I actually liked that movie and think the action on it is far from bad:

I think his tone would fit the already established MCU and the Guardians world in general.

Well, dammit.
Paul Feig Comments On Possibly Directing Marvel's 'Guardians of the...

It's gonna be hard finding a director willing to take the risk.

Bradley Cooper, he's probably about to have an oscar nominated film under his directors belt, and he must have at least some small or larger relationship with the cast already which might calm Batista down and boost the morale for all the production. Also once he would be announced I imagine he could bring James on as an advisor at least, win win for everybody.

Y'all are really looking and stretching for any way to have Gunn involved in some capacity, which probably won't happen.

That and I doubt Disney would even allow Gunn to be brought on in some way. At least using his script you don't need him present- just his words.

Its interesting they haven't announced a replacement yet tho don't you think? Danny Boyle walked from Bond 25 barely a few weeks ago and we got a new director announcement just 2 days ago. Not quite the same situation but we haven't even had rumours of a replacement yet beyond maybe Taika having a mystery meeting with Marvel but no source being able to confirm if it was for Guardians or not. Maybe they see no rush if they have moved Guardians 3 off the May 2020.Maybe they're letting the controversy die down. But if theyre go for July 2020 instead of May then we should hear something soon or nothing if its been moved well into the slate maybe 2021.

They announced that GotG3 was delayed, so it really isn't surprising. It seems like the slate for 2020 is likely Black Widow, Doctor Strange 2, and Eternals now given all these projects have directors attached and in the case of BW and DS2 rumored filming time frames. So if GotG3 is coming now in likely 2021 or beyond, there is time to find a replacement.

It was never locked into being the 1st movie in 2020 either. Most just assumed it and I am sure they may have liked it to be, but they left the door open by never announcing phase 4. Most casuals won't even think much about which movie was planned first.

Oh my gosh imagine if they got lady Gaga in guardians of the galaxy! I would die. She would be such a good phylla vell maybe

I'm casting my vote for Tim Miller as well. He did some directing on Thor: Dark World, and did a great job with Deadpool. Since GoTG and DP both employ some lowbrow humor, I think he could deliver.

Marvel Eyeing Female Directors To Replace James Gunn On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

Word comes via Omega Underground’s Christopher Marc, who had the following to say on Twitter:

Hearing that the bulk of the directors Marvel is looking at to replace James Gunn on GUARDIANS 3 are ladies and the names are fantastic!

Very vague and possible not true rumour but still pretty cool. I mean the new series of doctor who has a ton of women writers and directors and it’s really made the sci fi even more interesting

Doctor Who directors? I vote Rachel Tatalay (she’s worked on Luke Cage though). Or Marvel can follow WB and find someone with only a couple of director credits but with super elite education like Cathy Yan, I’m still not sure about that.

Ha, that’s random, I actually was looking at Rachel for the fantastic four reboot. Guess it shows what a strong contender she is

Rachel Talalay would be a fantastic choice. World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls is among some of the most well-directed science fiction out there.

Talalay was doing comic book movies in the mid-90s, so she's certainly no stranger to them.

Travis Knight just made a likeable Transformers movie. Umm so why isn’t he onboard yet?
