who thinks spider-man 2 is the best?

the first Spider-Man was great in it's time and really served as a good intro to both the character and the trilogy, but SM2 just had something extra that made it way better. There wasn't a whole lotta Spidey in the film, but it worked because they really built up the character of the "man behind the mask" and emphasized the struggle and cost of living with dual identities, much like in the comics. As for SM3, i really enjoyed it a lot, but after watching it some more i think it would've been better had venom not been introduced and left for a sequel, and have Sandman's character developed more with a bigger role.

I'd rank them as:
Spider-Man - 9.0
Spider-Man 2 - 10.0
Spider-Man 3 -9.5

It is easily the best one of the series and has a case as the best superhero film of any type (although I personally prefer Batman Begins).

Spiderman 2. By far the best of the three Spiderman movies.

The first one was so-so and the third one was a horrid mess.

Even so, I must admit Spiderman 2's premise is quite flawed. What's the big deal with quitting as Spiderman in the middle of tears and Uncle Ben's dreams when he was losing his powers beyond his own will anyway? What's the drama of the quitting if he had no choice?

But in spite of incoherences, the movie felty quite great.

with the trilogy as a whole, for me yea, spider-man 2 is a quality superhero film and the best of the series, sm1 is next, and then sm3

really u didnt like that scene, i found it to be the most powerful and best scenes of the whole trilogy. i mean he was losing his powers but the conflict within was clearly there in the beginning before he started falling and losing his powers (with mj/school/lost his job), i thought the doctor was saying he didnt have to be spider-man climbing those walls so he felt he had a choice and could be with mj and live a regular life, i ono maybe still a bit complex i guess, but it was a great scene for me personally for him to relive one of his last times with uncle ben

He didn't actually lose his powers. It was all psychological. The emotional stress of being Spider-Man and the reprecussions it was having on his life was becoming way too much for him. It was alienating him from everyone and everything in his life that he cared about.

Peter had a choice. He just didn't know it yet. After the doctor didn't find anything physically wrong with him, Peter realized his powers were on the blink because he was not happy being Spider-Man. "I have a choice". But, he had to wrestle with his conscience first, before quitting. That's what the Uncle Ben sequence was about. Uncle Ben's death was the primary reason he became a hero. He had to sort out those demons before he could live a normal life. Not use his great power with great responsibility anymore, meaning stop being a hero.

Great stuff. All taken from ASM Annual #1, and ASM #50. Stan Lee's finest.

When I saw the bit about losing powers, I immediate thought of the 90's cartoon w/ the mutation & Man-Spider storyline.
I think that's a little too ridiculous for Raimi to go there, but it was a neat little theory.

You both are right. I totally forgot about the doctor scene's significance. At the end of it Peter says "I can choose" or soemthing like that. That's the weight of Uncle Ben's scene later. he could choose to become friends with his Spiderman mission and see if that way he recovers his powers but he decides not to. Hence, he quits.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

And well, in any case I always loved the scene jad. And of course Spiderman 2 is by far the ebst of the three IMO and one of the best of the genre.

I like the trilogy as a whole, but Spider-Man 2 is the strongest of the three.

Spider-Man 2 is the best of the 3 and hopefully 4 is great as well.

Spider-man 2 is the best of the trilogy. 'Nuff said!

300 hundert posts! This calls for celebration!

Spiderman 2 is the weakest of all 3 Movies....the Trainfight is the only thing i liked about that Movie everything else is boring as Hell....this Movie is the best example that Raimi is just a B-Director who should be taken far away from all future Spiderman Movies.

If that's your opinion (and you're certainly entitled to it), why exactly are you posting in a thread entitled "Spider-Man 2 is the best"...?

My ranking:

Spider-Man 1: 9/10 (pretty cool)
Spider-Man 2: 15/10
Spider-Man 3: 4/10 (Sam Raimi owes me $7.50)

*raises hand* It's my favorite of the trilogy too.

Yeah, it's a good movie, a better villain than number one, as well as story. But Spider-man is a classic and rich origin, and as such; my favourite in the series.

Spidey 2 is easily my favourite. It's like a classic Ditko comic come to screen - the lighting, the elegant way New York is shown, the confusion within Pete. It simply shines with class. Spidey 1 was great - a good feeling movie, where Spidey 2 was filled with drama, tension, and internal conflict. I do think certain elements of Spidey 1 are better (the swinging is mainly what comes to mind), but as an overall piece of film, Spidey 2 is easily the best in the Spider-Man franchise. Out of comicbook films in general, I think its only competition in regards to quality is Superman: The Movie.

:spidey:

Spiderman 1 to me, felt a little too like a teen movie to me...but Spider-man 2 was alot more maturer, in storylines as well as the cinematography, which I think was one of the most important factors to making this film look so great.

It definitely has a 60s feel, very reminiscent to the Ditko era...though I'd go so far to say that this definitely had a Romita Sr. vibe to it and at times it did feel like being transported into a Lee/Romita Sr. comic from the 60s.

I completelydoodley agree with you, Lee. SM1 DID feel like a teen movie, and I though 3 did too. I think those two films have a similar feel, whereas 2 seems above them, not only in quality, but also in seriousness. Don't get me wrong though, SM1 was MUCH better than 3. I just feel they have a similar tone.

3 had the substance of the comics it was trying to copy...late 80s/early 90s...

Complicated storylines, bigger and better villains that come across as one dimensional that are ultimately just a big bag of hot air...ultimately annoying the fans, with some who feel that it's the best comic movie ever because it has Venom in it.

I don't hate the movie...but as movies go, looking at a film student's perspective...by god this movie was a shambles.
