Who would be the villain

Penguin has been a non-threat to Batman for decades. LOL

Deathstroke on the other hand has 2-1-1 winning record against Batman. That is all.

Penguin has been a consistent threat to Batman, and Gotham for decades. Go read the brilliant 'Penguin: Pain and prejudice' for a brilliant recent example of this. Best of all is Batman is never able to arrest Penguin because he never gets the dirt on him. That's a winning record.

What winning record has Slade stacked up against Batman?

Penguin's the perfect, demoralizing, cockroach of a supervillain for Batman, who's more of a threat towards Gotham directly than he ever is towards Batman. He's the kind of guy who's a cancer on a city, but also a known factor that does occasionally prove to be marginally more controllable plague than the alternatives.

If I were writing this, I'd make the point be that Penguin is a horrible crime boss, but nowhere near as bad as the "King of Gotham", Leto's Joker.

Personally for the solo film who should be the villain? Definitely Leto's Joker should be the villain but as for who I think it'll be...it will be a toss-up between Penguin, Riddler or Hush

We don't need Slade as a Batman villain. Honestly Deathstroke is more of a threat than Penguin, but Penguin is undeniably a BATMAN villain. Slade is a Teen Titans or general DCU villain. No need for us to see him in a Batman movie when there are pure Batman villains that haven't been seen on screen either. Slade should pop up as the villain in a Titans series or movie. Or maybe he could be working with a toned down Eisenberg Luthor or Waller in the DCEU

Deathstroke as a Batman villain in a Ben Affleck solo film series actually could work but my pick for Deathstroke would be Daniel Craig

I wanted deathstroke to be the hired help in BvS with a much better role than KGBeast. But i also wanted metallo too. I don't too much think deathstroke has a place as the main antagonist in a batman solo though.

I would rather that he is used in a Teen Titan/Nightwing or Green Arrow movie (preferably Teen Titan or Nightwing).

Another Batman villain who hasn't been on the screen is Roman Sionis/Black Mask

Which we have just established means zilch. Quantity doesn't equal quality.

DC has said a lot of BS about plans for characters in the past. They called Jason Todd the Anti Batman, too.

Yes. He's been a part of several major DC related storylines in the last few years.

Penguin cant boast of much quality either.

In Slade's case it's a reputed writer who's been saying it and DC has given him the go ahead. In Todd's case it was a bunch of higher ups wishing to impose it on the writers who didn't want to do anything with Todd, Todd's subsequent foray in to DCU after UTRH proves it.

Yes as a character who stands in the background because he is safe enough. When a villain gets that treatment then that's a worrisome sign.

Which again circles back to my point about decay and stagnation, DC is content with him running a club, that's the only thing they think he's good enough for and they dont want to disturb that lest they have to actually come up with a new direction. They recognize that he's a staple villain who's gonna tag along but they dont want to actually do anything with him.

As for PAP, Oswald got lucky that he was the first character Hurqitz touched because the said writer shilled the exact same formula for Scarecrow, Hatter etc later on, all of which are forgotten but it's still his only story and one in which HE IS the protagonist.

I see Penguin as more of a side-character in the film, not the main villain.

He's perfectly capable of being a primary antagonist.

Think Gus Fring of the Batman universe. The ultimate string-puller with the occasional psychotic outburst.

He's capable, but I PERSONALLY would want to see someone else.

Penguin is Batman's snitch/informant. That's all he's good for. Batman lets him conduct his business as long as he isn't making bodies and gives him info on the real villains.

Penguin will never be "the villain" of a another Batman film. Bet.

Penguin worked in Batman Returns because they gave him a ridiculously goofy plan, which I loved.. but you can't do that again.

Technically, it's not impossible for Penguin to be the puppet master but he was never really meant to be one. He's a seedy lowlife who owns his own little slice of Gotham, just like Black Mask.

If they were to use Deathstroke I think Liam Neeson would make a kickass older version. I know he wouldn't be used though.

Oh yes he can. A lot more than Slade, too.

A reputed writer saying it rather than the DC higher ups is even less impressive. Said writer doesn't run the company. Doesn't make the character decisions.

Penguin doesn't stand in the background. He has been front and center of many stories as a significant threat.

If all you've seen is Penguin doing nothing but just running a club then you've either been doing selective reading, or you haven't touched a Batman comic since 1995.

Penguin's significance is shown even beyond the comics. He's been a major villain in the movies, the TV series, the animated series, the Arkham games, and now the current Gotham TV show.

Where's the eagerness to put Slade on screen as a major villain if he's all that and a bag of peanuts?

A lot of fans want to see Slade on the screen because he looks extremely bad-ass, he's an amazing fighter and marksman and his ******* demeanor is very entertaining to watch. Is he a rich, Shakespearean character? No, but he can easily appear in a Batman movie (maybe not as the main villain) and win over audiences worldwide. Everybody loves a troubled, scene-stealing bad-ass.

A lot of villains that haven't appeared on screen yet can easily appear in a Batman movie. Slade is no different. Wanting to see him on screen because he looks cool and is a great fighter are pretty weak reasons. It reminds me of the superficial Venom love in Spider-Man fandom. Sam Raimi said it best; I don't get why the kids think he's such a great villain just because he looks cool and has similar powers to Spider-Man.

If you want a character to be a main villain, it should be for better reasons than that.

Slade was great as the main villain on the Teen Titans cartoon and Arrow, and it wasn't just because of him looking cool or being a great fighter. He was great in both the animated universe and the live-action TV universe, it would be nice if he was used similarly in a movie. It should not be in a Batman movie though, but rather a Teen Titan/Nightwing one. If not that, then Green Arrow.

How are those weak reasons? I want entertaining characters in my Batman movies, and Slade is an example of one if done right. On top of a good story, I want to see characters kick some ****ing ass, especially after we saw what the possibilities were in BvS.

If I had to choose between Penguin and Deathstroke I would pick Deathstroke any day of the week. That doesn't mean Penguin isn't a legitimate villain or that he does not have a rich history in the comics, but my mind is just not set on him right now. By the way, I'm not saying I specifically want him as THE villain. I would like him to be a side character, maybe the main villain hired him.

Looking cool and kicking ass are superficial reasons I imagine 7 year olds saying about characters like Rocksteady and Bebop in TMNT. No offense meant. If I want someone for main villain material, those are not in the top 2 reasons of why said villain should be chosen. Story and character come first.
