now i know we've had lots of examples in this category so far. with classic like spiderman 2, punisher, and hulk:ud, and suck factories like batman begins, fantastic four, and any superman game. but what license do you think could have to potential to be the best one yet? here's my pic

- a decent free roaming batman game is sorely needed. sticking to the rooftops would be the best way to do it. where speed and stealth would be the point of it all. make it important to not let the public see you, thus keeping your reputation closer to myth rather than man, making common criminals more afraid when you swoop in to stop them. transportation would be covered by a mixture of gliding and grappling, along with lots of acrobatics in between. with the last batman game being as bad as it was, we need some redemption, and preferably not in lego form

- Invincible i think would make a sweet game. basically make it like superman returns, except good. get robert kirkman to write. or hell just copy it right from the comic. just imagine reliving some of the fights, like invincible vs omni-man, teaming up with the teen team, and later on the guardians of the globe. have three kinds of missions, story, everyday street crimes(spiderman 2), and fate of the world type stuff, like fending off a bunch of aliens who are aging too fast for for this world. sure you're only fighting them for a couple minutes, but you fighting a crazy amount of them. with the next gen possibilities this could be an awesome game

honorable mentions: daredevil (much like batman idea), punisher 2(except bigger and better), captain america, a wolverine game that focuses on the samurai, ex cia, ex assassin wolverine, not just the hack and slash stuff.

how about you guys??

Free roaming Batman!!!!

A non-suckified free roaming Superman game that's based on the comic characters, with a real story, a supporting cast, and the real Superman from the comics; not the pansied up Routh Superman!:cmad:

Spiderman, Wolverine, Batman and Punisher have the most potential.

I don't think I would want a free roam batman. I think a well crafted linear game is more suited to batman, he keeps a low profile so he doesn't need all that space.

i know i seem to be stuck on the free roam idea, but a Sin City game with the same idea as grand theft auto would be great also. if done well the graphics would be top of the line. theres lots of source material to benefit the storyline and missions. who you play as would be up to you. play through the game as dwight, marv, or some of the other bad asses from the books.

Daredevil could be cool in both linear and free roam type games. Punisher basically proved that not every game needs to be a GTA or Saint's Row to be fun. I'd love to see maybe a Heroes for Hire type game, where you can play as a few vigilantes.

It would be too easy to go outside of Batman's morals. Just like the Punisher. Yeah, driving in the Batmobile would be cool....for about 30 minutes. And then Batman works mainly at night. How ridiculous would it look if he was jaywalking on the sidewalk at 2:00 PM?

I think that Marvel MMO coming out could be the best comic book game ever if they do it right.

I think a free roaming Batman game that uses the No Man's Land storyline would be great, where you have to work to take over more and more of the city, taking out the villians and gangs.

I'm, honestly all for a Free Roam Batman, or at least a Batman with massive levels and areas. Part of the fun that an ideal Batman game would have would be patrolling Gotham, actually tracking criminals and attacking a problem from several different angles. There is the on-ground aspect to deal with, but, from what I could tell, Gotham Begins is starkly empty at night, save for random citizens in peril and the criminal element. I'm sure there are issues to be dealt with, but it seems to have so much more potential than just going from one action/stealth sequence to another.

As for the Marvel MMO, I don't think it can be ideal for one issue: How it deals with players using canon characters. No use = not ideal. Free use = 1000 Spideys = Not ideal. Even the best solution, regulating use of Marvel Characters by use of instancing (be spidey in your own world) some earning/jedi system (you don't have enough points to rent spider-man today) isn't "ideal" because you can't log and be Spidey whenever you want to.

Also, it's an MMO, which means it needs to have balance, which means they'll be fine tuning it constantly so the game can be fair... doesn't sound ideal to me. It might be very very good, but not ideal.

I think a Free Roam Spidey game with top notching fighting and webswining that allows you into Peter Parker's life with a deep storyline has a great shot at being the ideal Superhero game. Spider-Man has a lot to draw on if people would make a compelling story and epic supervillain battles instead of just trying to shove in as many villains as possible. I would take a Spidey Game where all the villains were Goblins if each encounter were well designed and refreshingly challenging to play. Much better than having Doc Ock be Shocker with higher stats and a different special move and costume.

As far as "The Best" video game, I'd have to say "The Avengers" hands down. I think it was taken as a overthe shoulder 3rd person action game rather than a top down Action-RPG, and each character was craft specially to have their own gameplay style and challenges and way to deal with threats, then we'd have really something special. The Avengers have a vast untapped rogue's gallery, many characters of which are just a redesign and good storyline/voice actor away from being award-winning video game villains. The characters in the Avengers are so broad in skills, a high production value game that could capture all that and make each one of them meaningful would be in line for game of the year no question. If the game actually hammered out each detail and gave each character worthy of being played solo as well as being a unique experience... toss in multiplayer over LAN and you have Game of The Year. No questions asked.

seems to me that gl1 should be in charge of any superhero video game from here on out. solid ideas man

That was done on the PSX, for the Batman & Robin film, I liked it.

The best comic book game has already been made. It's called Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

marvel ultimate alliance was good, i wouldn't say it's the best though. the best thing its got going is character selection. but the story wasn't that great, the writing and voice acting were terrible, and the recycled xml gameplay gets boring after a while, especially after we've already had 2 games worth of it.

Damn straight, and it wasn't that good to begin with.

If it was set in both the past AND the present: Awesome.
yes indeed
would magnus robot fighter the game work?:ninja:

Free Roaming Batman Game
Free Roaming Superman Game
Free Roaming Spider-Man game based on the comics

An expansive Justice Leage RPG which lets you play as multiple characters, explore the watchtower and talk to other members, comic book based missions, etc. Think Marvel Ultimate Alliance with more depth and actual replay value.

It would be awful. Batman needs to be more in the style of an adventure game. Not as linear, but a focus needs to be made on solving a mystery by interacting with Gotham and it's inhabitents rather than a sandbox game with a loose plot. I still say the RE4 engine and Grim Fandango's mystery style narrative structure is the way to go with Batman.

The Maxx could make an amazing game. Two worlds, interconected, with progress in one world unlocking paths in the other, but you can't control when you switch. Thus the game is as much about discovering how the worlds are connected so you can figure out what you need to do to unlock something in the other world.

Actually no......that game kinda sucks....

So far, the best superhero game is still to be made, the one game where you are the superhero, and not just play as him.
Don´t get me wrong, is great to play as the superhero, to play the story that is given to us, as long as it´s a good interesting story to play.
But i´m still waiting for that one game (that i just know will appear one day) where you actually are the main character, where you have to balance the civil and superhero life, where you feel the urgency to go out there and fight the good fight, but have to maintain your normal life aswell.
Where you don´t have just to play the action that is given to you and as it´s given to you, but play as you want, to approach the problem at hand the way you want.

And with games like Oblivian and Fable, is not an impossible game to do.

It'll probably not be the best comic book video game, but a free-roaming video game based on "The Mask" comics would be cool.:)
