Why all the hate over the flag shot?

I really haven't read anyone mention that the "patriotism" angle seems to be used only on certain characters Supes, Spidey yes, but I doubt you'll see it in the Dark Knight? Maybe its also a question of who or which director can incorporate the images into a film because its a cheap way to amp up what the character represents or how they operate. Again would you see something like that in Daredevil, or the Hulk (Unless he ran past one while being chased by the military) I mean in this day and age I really doubt it was meant to rally "pride" in country. To me it's the cheapest form of special effect.

LOL!! I like that image.

I'm far from insecure. I've did my sacrificing for this country , I did fight in Iraq. I just find it really sad that people would get all riled up about a goddamn flag shot.

Thanks, just trying to look at this moment in the film from a different perspective, without having it melt into some talking points "you might be a lib if.." or "you might be a con if..." The fact is that it was a moment in a blockbuster film that's got people talking among some of the other moments or lack there of in this film. It could have been a nod to the Supe films from the 70's, or hell maybe Raimi's got family in the service.. who knows. But going back to my original point, I tend to think that certain characters are more prone to symbolic posturing and such based on the battle at hand or where they operate. (over crowded NY, everyone watching, melting pot) wave the flag...he's fighting for us all. Again a classic comic book-slash movie effect to get a point across and it don't cost much. True story... I was actually on a site/message board a while ago discussing the candy from long ago we use to like as kids (old school 70's early 80's) and believe it or now the conversation actually dissolved into a lib-vs-con debate! OVER the type of candy we ate as kids! So this flag-gate controversy doesn't surprise me, but I long for they day went any topic discussed doesn't turn into this type of garbage. The politicizing of everything..is Dr. Conners some lib professor ruining our kids, does Venom represent red state America..Blah Blah

Like others have said, It is distracting and forced. I didn't even see it coming, then it takes up most of the background.
But I suppose it is kool to have America rub it's flag/patriotism in the face of other countries where the movie was showned, just like America likes to force things on other countries XD

YAWN

Funny review, he was pretty much spot on about all the complaints and the fact that no matter what people would complain either way.

Is it not equally sad that some people are getting riled up over people getting riled up?

Flag shot is pretty cheesy, i didnt notice the first time i viewed the film but it was blindingly obvious the 2nd time!! We dont need reminding that Spidey is an American hero?! Im from England and alot of my freinds didnt hate the shot but thought it was abit tacky. James Bond doesnt pose infront of a GB flag before he jets off to save the world..........

Its just yet another flaw in an extremely flawed movie.... Bring on Spidey 4 he needs to redeem himself!!

I think we should have Black Widow run past the Soviet flag in her live action flick. It's only fair.

I'm Irish and couldn't care less, its a flag shot for ****s sake. Go have some real problems

Case in point, sly. :o

No, I just don't feel like typing a novel and then all ur gonna say back is something stupid. Sadahm was pure evil. He killed him own people. He was a threat to the whole world. U.S. had every right to feel threatend and had every right to invade and search for WOMD. Its just like at the airport, you get checked to make sure your safe and not some maniac. Its the same thing with countries. Just because its bigger, does not mean its awhole lot more complicated. The U.S. is the strongest country in the world and when another country is in peril, the U.S. of all countries should help out. "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility". Maybe that rings a bell. In 1947 President Truman came up with a policy later known as "The Truman Doctrine". He stated:
I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support
free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressure. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic and financial aid which is essential to economic stability and orderly political processes.

The primarily is bolded because he later states that if force must be used, than it will. It's the U.S.'s job to help other countries in need and we were threatened and took action.

I think it was a swelling of pride for the people at the construction site. What better way to say "everything's gonna be fine" than jumping infront of a symbol of freedom?

That whole sequence felt like Ghostbusters to me . When Sandman became giant , I thought it was the state pufted marshmellow man. :cwink: All kidding aside, I didn't actually have a problem with that shot . By that point , I thought they'd wasted too much time and i wanted them to just get on with the film. Although , I didn't realize they made flags the size of Billboards . It's a good thing it didn't fall on him :yay:

who made US a leader of the world? not all countries need US to watch over them. also iraq was right to feel threatened by US, since it got attacked.
iraq was never able to attack US. it was crippled by all the sanctions in the past.
a lot of countries feel threatened by US, so by your logic they have the right to atack.

What coloring book did you get this worldview from? The Truman Doctrine's cool and everything, but you might want to check out the concept of the Just War as well, which is something agreed upon multi-laterally in the nations of the world, including the US' most respected diplomats, and we failed to meet more than one of those conditions before attacking Iraq.

Sidenote: The Founders also strongly warned future Americans about "entangling alliances" and looking for "dragons to slay", noting that these things had been the downfall of many previous nation-empires both bad and good. Truman was a good man, but I'd opt for T-Jeff anyday.

america; worlds police....
if thats the case..if that is what u believe...well. why arnt america getting rid of mugabe in zimbabwe...he has completely crippled that country with a sickening regime....
and thats naming one....
and yeah by your logic, then any country that feels threatened by the us..has a right to attack it....it goes both ways...
howcome the U.S can be armed to the teeth with WOMDs but other countries cant....they are trying to defend themselves..
i am not condoning the actions of "terrorists", not at all...evil bastards... but i can see where they come from...and sadly they are born from the us's foreign policies.....it cuts both ways....

i mean.. when russia was the enemy of the U.S. the U.S trained the taliban and osama bin laden to fight russia...and then that monster, which the U.S helped create... well. i dont need to go any further.
the US trained that dog to squat...and then he shat in their own backyard.

This thread has turned into nothing but a big political flame war.

None of that has anything to do with Spider-Man let alone the movie...go vote or voice your disdain else where to seek that change you so badly want.

Between the bridge scene in SM1, the flag at the end of SM1, the flags in the swing scene of SM2, the patriotic things have gotten very old. Plus, it was extremely forced. He is just swinging along and the ENTIRE background is a flag. Distracting and unneccesary.

I could understand that,i mean..New York does not have any giant American flags ontop of its buildings.Or it could be that Bendis supports the war in Iraq.
