Why all the hate over the flag shot?

I could understand that,i mean..New York does not have any giant American flags ontop of its buildings.Or it could be that Bendis supports the war in Iraq.

Umm have you been to New York? There are plenty of Giant flags

None of that has anything to do with Spider-Man let alone the movie...go vote or voice your disdain else where to seek that change you so badly want.

hey i have no problem with the flag shot. they were in all spidey films. i was replying to a post and giving my opinion. but this political tangeant in this thread has been going for a while now....if it didnt have some sort of value or interest it wouldve been closed ages ago.

Just because people are interested in it does not mean it isn't off topic.

This thread should of been closed it has gone way off topic and is going to get very personal soon as political/religious discussions usually do.

Sorry but people turning this into an America hate war and a political agenda is ridiculously idiotic and it is getting really really really really really old. Spider-Man lives in New York City in the beautiful state of New York which is coincedentally one of the 50 states contained in the United States of America. Peter Parker was invented by Mr. Stan Lee, an American citizen. He made Spider-Man an American hero. So what the f*** did all you expect? What the hell did you think wouldn't happen. How the hell did you not gripe at the first two movies containing an American flag. Get a life and respect the fact that Spider-Man is a product of the good ole' U.S.A. This is a summer movie stemming from a great comic book series. It has nothing to do with George Bush, it has nothing to do with politics, it has nothing to do with current events and personal political views. Grow the f*** up.

My brother (who recently saw the movie) brought up an interesting perspective on this. He said that he interpreted that flag shot as a full circle. At the end of the first movie, after Peter proclaims that he's Spider-Man, there's a nifty shot with the American flag. In Spider-Man 3, Peter puts on his red & blue suit, which makes him the REAL Spider-Man once again. Before he goes off to battle as a renewed Spidey, he stands in front of the American flag. Full circle.

^This probably wasn't the case for this movie, but I just thought that my brother's opinion was interesting and believable. :)

I think it would have been more full circle had it occurred after the fight or toward the end. Not before a major fight. Though, I don't see the full circle thing at all.

As I said, it looked fake and was distracting. Maybe if it wasn't a poor CGI flag, it would have been as bad. Doesn't ruin the movie or hurt it much by any means, but still.

That makes alot of sense actually. I thought the scene was beautiful and I don't buy all the Sh%ty arguments against it.

I agree, but when someone {I don't remember who, and I'm too lazy to dig throug this long topic to find out} said that people hate America because it starts pointless wars, I had to fight back. This is to every person living in the US that hates our government: GET OUT OF THE COUNTRY. If you don't like it leave. Thats fair. It makes everyone happy.

Wow. This is the silliest thing ever. I mean god forbid that an American comic book hero, with a film shot in America, defending an American city have a patriotic shot in the film with the American flag in the background. I mean is seriously sad that in other countries the flag is removed. Is it really that offensive??? I wonder if they will even release Captain America in other countries. I mean we wouldn't want him looking too patriotic. They will probably change his whole suit to just one color in the International versions :whatever:

ROTF! :woot: I like that ^ really funny.

is the red and blue freaking costume not enough? do we need a silly, contrived, "patriotic" flag shot that is not necessary in the context of the scene to prove spiderman is an american hero?

it's just like unfolding the events of the movie through the eyes of a newscaster. it just adds to the already high cheese factor in this movie.

and this is not helping with the off-topicness, but i had to reply to this.

this is the most ignorant thing i have ever heard in my life. your statement goes against the WHOLE FREAKING POINT OF DEMOCRACY. opinions of this administration aside, democracy is not putting blind faith in your government and letting them do whatever the hell they want. it's about questioning and having different opinions and working for the greater good of society. if we lose our right to hate the government because they constantly lie to us and commit genocide for oil, it becomes a fascist government and not a democracy.

Yes the movie is one big cheesefest it feels like it is ripped right out of a comic book. Sure people may think it is cheesy but is it really necessary to edit it out in different countries?? I mean what do they think that people are going to see it and say booooooooooooo this movie blows!!!! I just seriously don't understand the whole being offended by it part. People are too goddamn sensitive in today's society. If there is a scene of Spidey taking a dump on another countries flag while waving the American flag then I understand. But an American flag shot when he is coming to save the day is harmless.

Has the flag really been edited out of other movies, or just trailers?

Well I don't understand why they would do one and not the other I think it is safe to assume. I guess being pro America these days offends people...lol.

Couldn't it be just a misunderstanding? I think I remember trailers of the scene without the flag and it being daylight, way before we began to talk about the cheesy factor of that scene in this thread.

Possibly. I am just going by what somebody posted earlier.

Just to bring this to the table, I don't think that the arguments about the scene being "completely random" are believable.

From what I remember, people were complaining about the flag shot when the first trailer came out in November 2006. I am really at the point where people have gotten really bitter about seeing the American flag ... And that saddens me.

Spider-Man is to Marvel what Superman is to DC. Nobody had any problems with Superman and all his flag shots back in the 70's & 80's - if you ask me, the Superman Returns fans should be wondering why "The American Way" phrase wasn't touched on at all in Superman Returns... yeah, he's a savior for the whole world, but "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" has been his tagline since the beginning. It's always nice to see Spidey pick up the slack where Superman falls short... ;)

i don't know if it's been edited out of the movie...i highly doubt it, but it has been edited out of international trailers and tv spots. also, i've seen a lot of SM3 commercials right here in NY and 90% of the time, the flag is edited out. it pisses me off and sadddens me at the same time.

I could understand in other countries why it might piss people off... but here in the U.S.? This really shouldn't even be an issue...

well apparently it is for some people. if i were in charge of the cuts for the trailers and tv spots and were to include the flag shot, you damn well better believe i'd leave the flag in there. it's just too bad sony didn't have the balls to leave the shot as is, instead of bowing down to other people's sensitivities.
