Why are cops such pricks?

Why are some cops so unwilling to make the whole process of getting pulled over as easy as possible? Most I've encountered just make a tense situation more tense.

Probably because you were a prick to them?

I know many cops.
The majority are nice guys and aren't there to make your life hell.

Thanks for your evaluation of someone you dont know and an entire profession. :o

Isn't that what everyone in this thread is doing?

Mother of...

Some cops are pricks because they are pricks.

Some cops are pricks because they are preparing for the worst. They're preparing for you to be the psycho with a gun, because that's what they are taught to expect.

Cause it's kind of hard to make small talk when giving a breathilizer test.

Cops are people, and like people, some are pricks, some are nice guys. Some are wifevbeaters, some are fathers of the year. It's the way of the world.

Also people are people.

Um that would be Depeche Mode, hence the joke. :csad:

Cops are pricks because they were loser bullies in high school who's lives peaked at 17 and since they spend too much time being morons in their youth, the only worthwhile job they could find in which their skills of being a prick would be encouraged is the police force.

Awesome band.

You know who's another awesome band? The Police.

Alot of the cops here have to put up with alot of verbal abuse, especially at the weekends when people cant handle there drink and start acting like fools, I would imagine that would take alot of tolerance.

My best friend is a cop and he tells me a few stories of people who think they can do whatever they want. Some teenager puts his foot out to try and trip him up, a guy double parks in front of him. And then they resist?

Knee on the back of their necks when they get arrested.

Maybe I've just been lucky the 10-15 times I've been pulled over, but I've never had this experience. And one of those by a Texas State Trooper for have expired registration! He could have had my car towed and sent me walking home, but let me go with a ticket. I guess, for me, it's just that I understand that when I'm being pulled over, I've done something wrong, and I simply go along with the officer and don't give him any hard time.

just do what Superman4ever said, keep going to court, keep challenging it, Cops really do hate going to court, and judges hate having to do stupid trials, it will either get thrown out or dismissed because the Cop didnt turn up
Total urban legend. I've taken several tickets to court, and accompanied my mother-in-law, once. Never have I seen a cop in traffic court. The cop does not need to be there. Think about it, there are only so many cops on the force, and I'd bet each one writes a few tickets every day. If only 1/4 of these are taken to court, than that officer would need to be in court for several hours every day. It just is not realistic for this to work.

Funny story, so my friend joined the army recently and just got out of boot camp, he sped past three cops today and none of them pulled him over.

I know many cops personally, have even become training partners with one (albeit that was short lived since I left that particular gym a month or so later), and most of them are nice guys who ironically don't want to start sh** and cause trouble.

I find most people who have problems with cops are pricks themselves. It's not hard to follow the rules, and if you aren't don't act all put upon when someone catches for it. The cop is trying to make that process as quick as possible. He doesn't want to waste your time anymore than he wants to waste his own. He's rather see you in court a month later and sort it out then.

For the most part I agree, a lot of these cops are just fat kids that were picked on in high school, so they are taking the chance to pay back socity behind a badge, the other half are the rowdy drunk jock type, that has always gotten a kick out of ****ing with people! very few enter the profession with the intent to protect and serve.

with that being said I was pulled over by a cop that carried himself well, I got a ticket but was not upset cause he was just doing his job not trying to be a bully.

oh and like 10 years ago I got pulled over for expired tags showed the cop I had the stickers just had not put them on yet, he said put them on when you get home have a nice day...did not even run my info in the computer....thought that was plesent as well....buy I have a handfull of dick head cop stories as well

Oh please! I go through the whole "nice" routine when getting pulled over (hazards on, hands on wheel, sunglasses/hats off, act polite, etc). This guy was completely out of line. The fact is the most cops are either reasonable and just, or complete power loving *******s. Unfortunately, the latter are more common than the former.

I've decided that I'm going to write to the state about the guy.

Why is that unfortunate? You would think you would want reasonable and just cops to be more common.

Typo. Sorry. I obviously meant the latter are more common than the former.
