Why are cops such pricks?

I didn't think it was (or atleast hoped it wasn't). Just never understood that form of insult. To me it always seemed more insulting to the person supposedly banging my much older mother.

On topic, I find a lot (not all mind you because I have my stories too) "bad cop" stories involve someone breaking a law (albeit usually a small one) and not getting away with it.

News flash, a cop that lets you off for speeding, rolling stops, illegal turns etc.. is being NICE!! and letting you get away with BREAKING THE LAW. A cop that tickets you for the same infraction is DOING HIS JOB!!

When it comes to an officers attitude, I always like to remember this (and it was mentioned earlier). An officer never knows when this traffic stop is going to lead to someone trying to shoot/attack them. This happens, and in big cities is more common. I can see being abrupt and harsh with someone when you have no idea if they might snap or not.

LOL I agree, I don't much like my mother so none of those things bother me, but even if so I agree.

my original Quip, is actually one I use quite often, it was lifted from the movie "Menace II Society"

If you got beef with C-O-P's
Throw a Molotov at the P-I-G's
Cause they be harassing you and me
Ya gotta understand we still not free

I hate rap with a passion, but completley love that song.
Interesting, I am sure there is plenty of other "rap" that you would enjoy if you enjoy that song...you have opened your heart up to the evil rap music!

How did you come by the song if you hate rap? it is rather obscure...

I find that the people who hate cops are usually people who can't take responsibility for themselves. These are the same people who complain that their teachers don't like them and fail them on purpose. They can't except the fact that the reason they get failing marks or attitudes from their teachers is because they act like asses in class and don't do assignments.

Yeah, in my experience, I've only met three @$$hole cops in my numerous encounters with them (had a bit of a lead foot in high school and college).

One was totally unwarranted, the other two were out of state. One in Michigan driving home from a New Years Eve party I was at, already driving on a ticket, two strikes against me off the bat.

The other was in Texas (one strike) and me and my friends were driving down to Spring Break (two strikes). I'm sure the cop thought he could find some drugs on us, cause he went looking through some of our luggage. One of my friends bought some water guns, the clear plastic kind and the cop flipped out about it, asking what we were thinking transporting guns in our luggage, we were mystified, thinking one they were water guns, two, in the trunk and three, we're in Texas where gun racks are legal. Cop ultimately let us off with a warning when he couldn't find anything to ticket us on. Funny thing was, a couple of my friends both had weed on them, but it was in their pockets, not their luggage. Guess the cop didn't think they'd be stupid enough to have it actually on their person.

So one time in college a cop pulls me over for going 10 over the limit. I mention I have a final exam in 20 minutes, so he holds me up for an hour, at which point four other cops show up and he demands to search my car for drugs. I tell him are you kidding me, no. As his buddies lurch off one of 'em offers the parting shot, "Enjoy your drugs, druggie." Swear to god. The ****in' prick who pulled me over gets back in his car and follows me the entire way to the campus. I end up an hour late for the final, which I get a D on.

**** the ****in' cops.

Nah! Being abrupt and harsh with people pisses them off more. Police officers with an attitude will make the situation worse almost every single time.

Why are cops pricks? Maybe it's the pricks of the world who want to become cops in the first place? You know the people who crave power over others? The people who have a cruel bullying streak in them? The people who have something to prove to others because they feel so inferior inside?

I know one thing a lot of security guards and club bouncers are pricks some of them are either ex cops or cop wanna be's who never had the chance to be a cop.

Just wanted to update this thread to let everyone who cares know that this was taken care of by a friend of mine who works amongst higher ups in the town. No fine or points! Take that, mean cop!

This thread sucks. I'm a cop and I try real hard to be nice, even when the offending party may not deserve it. Most of my fellow officers are ex-military, maybe that is why they may seem a bit "harsh." Myself, I wanted to join the Army, but I have a metal rod in my leg (ironically enough caused when I was hit by a police car as a kid), so I was rejected. Anyway, cop-bashing? Boo.

Good points, man. I've seen enough police video of cops simply walking up to a car and getting shot at. They simply have no idea who they are about to deal with, and must be at least a little on the defensive.

Why are some cops so unwilling to make the whole process of getting pulled over as easy as possible? Most I've encountered just make a tense situation more tense.
Because they're trained to make you more tense?

The cop who pulled me over said I didn't put my blinker on, but I did, albeit somewhat late. Point is, I put my blinker on. I just don't know how to prove something like that.

Damn that mofo was just trying to make his quota. A ticket for not putting on your blinker...?

Unless you know a cop personally or have one in the fam, most people, regardless of how law abiding they are, get pissed when pulled over and don't get just a warning. I remember lucking out a few years ago when I got pulled over and the cop was actually a dude I knew from one of my old classes. He recognized me right off the bat and was like, "let me just take your license and walk back to the car so it looks like I'm giving you a hard time, I got a new guy in here with me." Then he walks back and gives it to me and is like, "see you in class, dude...this was just a warning thing, so don't even worry about it." Good times, indeed.

I'm thinking that it probably had to do more with GammaRay's attitude than the actual blinker.

I`d say its only some cops who are pricks..I have met some cool cops in my day. MY uncle is a cop and alot of his cop buddies are cool but the ones who are pricks usually have a hard-on for thier job

While I'm sure there are amiable cops out there, I've yet to meet one.
