Why Can't DC Get it right?

Hahaha!!
OK, I think when I said DC is quality over quantity, I didn't mean to imply that Marvel movies suck. Again: I DID NOT IMPLY MARVEL MOVIES = less quality.

Facts:
1) DC has fewer movie big name movie properties than Marvel.
2) A lot of Marvel's major film titles have failed (either at BO or critically)

I disagree with that. I believe DC has many properties that can translate well to film, but they just haven't made them

DC's last HUGE release besides the Batman movies was SUPERMAN RETURNS in 2006, and that failed it's expectations at the BO.
So hopefully DC can take the success of TDK, scale back, reach into their amazing character pool other than the Holy Trinity, and make some successful and interesting film properties.

Other than the Holy Trinity? You forgot that one of them doesn't has yet to have a film. :yay:

I mean how many successful franchises has Marvel created before they've launched this Avengers crossover?
So let's give DC some slack to catch up...

Marvel Studios first film was Iron Man so they didn't have any films before.

Marvel's been very successful at spinning their comic book titles into film franchises for years; from BLADE to SPIDERMAN to X-MEN, etc... and they're only going to be on the rise with the innovative cross-over movie-verse concept they have going on right now.

And if those work, who's to say we won't see a Green Lantern Corps movie, or something along those lines... even if it doesn't involve Batman, Superman, etc.

That's mostly the WB's fault. If you look at all of their recent releases, none of them really set the world on fire, with the exception of Nolan's Batman. So all this quality over quantity is bs. They have properties and for whatever reason, they are not touching them. Flash and WW are all sitting on shelves rusting while they decide to make films on Jonah Hex, the Losers, and whatever properties that are based on comics. If those movies were hits, then noone can knock them but they were not. It's just an excuse. I feel really bad for Johns. He really is the right man for the job but it's those guys in those freakin suits who are not backing him up.

Marval has one franchise on sure footing.(Iron Man)

DC has one franchise on sure footing. (Batman)

Everything else is a big ?

I'd say it's about even right now.

Everything else isn't done by Marvel.

You are right to a degree. Marvel's properties are leased out and though some have bombed, some have done amazing(pun intended)like Spiderman and Xmen. And even though Superman Returns didn't do that well, it didn't exactly bomb. I'm not saying Supes is a sure thing but if it had some action to it, it would have done a lot better. So both companies do have a ton of untapped potential, it's just that right now Marvel is doing better at getting their's out there. Are they all good? No but they are all becoming household names.
Everything else isn't done by Marvel.

Agreed also! I think that will change next year when Thor, Cap, and even the following year with Runaways and Dr. Strange coming up. Well, they will be Disney titles but they are still Marvel's.

Incredible Hulk was made by Marval and it didn't set the world on fire. I doubt we'll see another solo film for awhile.

not every comic book/superhero movie is going to set the world on fire....that's another problem the fandom seems to have....they EXPECT high theater on everything and no genre is like that

I agree Lantern, I was saying that just because Marvel's in charge does not mean a movie will do well. Fans tend to blame Fox and Sony for the dowfall of some franchises.

Agreed. I always thought it was ridiculous that people want these oscar winning actors and actresses for films.

But that doesn't mean fans don't have a legit argument. Fox and Sony have been less successful because they tend to not know as much as Marvel. Creative-wise, Marvel is definitely a bit more loose. I'm not talking business practices like contracts and signing people, because every major film studio is like that.

Marvel has done well with hiring the right directors and actors films quality wise. Imo they've yet to have a bad film which goes one of two ways with fans.

1. They can do no wrong.
2. They're due for a terrible one.

Personally I feel as if I'm in the awkward middle of this.

To add to that Master Wayne, the Hulk didn't set the world on fire BO wise, but it has earned high marks as far as the audience that did see it.

Kudos for calling me master wayne :cwink::woot:

I agree. Its not like it left a bad taste in people's mouths like Ang Lee's Hulk among people who saw it.

Once again, Ang Lee's Hulk screwed TIH over. So did Marvel's advertising or lack of.

The general reception for the film, like Iron Man 2, was very positive. It wasn't the best ever, but TIH was pretty good and did the Hulk justice.

I know DC is taking their time and maybe they do have a master plan, but I can help it but to think they they are meandering thus far.

We're getting Green Lantern, Batman 3, and the Superman reboot. I really don't see what the big deal is.

We've seen about Batman and Superman about 6 times a piece minimum. Besides GL what do we have that we haven't seen already?

The Wonder Woman film will probably be made at some point.

my problem is the build-up to these franchises. If you compare them to Marvel, like it or not, Marvel is the king of hype. Well, it can be their downfall too.

I'm not saying that DC aren't making the right moves but so far, it's just been very slow. And I'm a DC guy. Some announcements would suffice
unless DC and WB are the sleeping giants, just waiting for the right moment.

WB will become much more focused on DC after Harry Potter ends

Of course they will. In fact, they can multi-task since Potter is almost done and DC is being handled by DC Entertainment.

I'm a big DC supporter and even I feel like they've been sluggish. So far. I'll eat crow if they, out of the blue, had a huge press conference. But that was promised and never delievered (yet) since late last year.
