I think we all know it'll be Cap who stops him somehow
after all these other people fail him, thanos will eventually just go after the stones himself. i think showing these other beings use the stones power is used to give a glimpse of them to the audience. remember that thanos knows how to fully utilize the stones. so he wouldn't need anyone. so we will see others use a stone and be defeated. then when thanos gives his speech about the stones true purpose and abilities, the audience could follow along better, having seen their prior users only use a portion of the stones powers. now when thanos uses a stone it will be a different thing all together.
cause that's what lackeys are for
that's like asking why can't the boss get his own coffee
Yip. Just look at him. He's so happy.
So far there's been nothing to indicate that he has any of the stones, but I suppose it is possible.
I like to think he's using lackeys so that he can spend his time thinking of Plan B's and the like. For rainy days.
Not like the Living Tribunal is a good guy either.
Exactly my point, nothing to indicate he has any, but also nothing to indicate he hasn't
He easily could. He doesn't because Marvel hasn't established him well enough with the general public to produce a Thanos Quest movie.
That's the real reason when it comes down to it.
To me it seems clear from the movie that Guardians 2 will focus on Thanos gathering the stones, with perhaps Adam Warlock joining the team?
The theories that the collector was gathering the stones for Thanos are all out the window.
It would be funny to have an episode of that tv show Undercover Boss in which Thanos went to work with the grunts and experienced first hand what it's like to work for...well Thanos. Maybe it could be a heartwarming ABC Christmas special where Thanos learns some humility. And it could end with Thanos and Mistress Death under the mistletoe!
Actualy he fights them all when he has the gauntlet. The Living Tribunal, Infinity, Enternity, all the Celestrials, Galactus and the abstract entities. They all get stomped.
Well....The Nova Corps and Asgard *do* know he's collecting the Stones now. At the *very* least, Nova Corps know he tried to get the Power Stone, and Odin and Thor had to have made Loki 'fess up about who was behind his arms-for-artifacts trade before they threw him in the dungeon.
So I don't think we can use the "he's trying to keep his scheme secret" theory to explain Thanos' hands-off approach. The plot is very much out in the open now, across a broad spectrum of the universe.
Instead, I'll hazard a guess that Eternals/Celestials/Whomever placed some kind of power magic on him in the distant past that prevents him from touching the Stones himself --- maybe because he tried this stunt in the past, and luckily failed. That could also explain why he makes a Gauntlet to house them all --- it's the only way he can gather all six to him without getting vaporized or whatever by their touch.
Genuine question: did you miss the fact that the Infinity Guantlet already exists and is in Odin's Vault on Asgard?
Do the Nova Corps know? They know Ronan had it, but not that he was working for Thanos? And do the Asgardians know? Doubtful
I don't think Loki fessed up to Odin before he was thrown in the dungeon? Why should he? He had nothing to lose at that point by keeping silent.
Did it *actually* appear in the vault, in the movie? Or was it just in a deleted scene?
Look at the booking scene. The Nova Corps knew that Ronan was allied with Thanos. Now, whether they extend this to assume Thanos is making some kind of run on all the Infinity Stones, is open for debate. They probably know that he tried to hire Ronan to get *one* of the Stones, but that isn't quite as immediately terrifying a concept. After all, the Collector did the same thing.
Although from their point of view, they knew Ronan worked for Thanos, then saw Ronan go after a stone and wield its power alone. So there's no direct link for them to ever think Ronan was giving it to him
that was an easter egg...one that will most likely be retconned
Why would you think that they're going to retcon the Guantlet's existence?
Also, Thanos most likely doesn't want to attract unwanted attention. If word got out that he was trying to gain the Infinity Gems, everyone in the universe would be coming after him, including some powerful beings like the Celestials. Thanos may be very powerful, but even he can't win a fight against everyone in the universe unless he has an ultra-powerful weapon like the Infinity Gauntlet. So to keep his enemies from knowing his plans, he has random individuals seek the Infinity Stones for him (Loki, Ronan, Nebula, Gamora, etc.) so that nothing can be traced back to him. That way, he keeps himself safe from unwanted trouble while he goes about his efforts to obtain the stones, until he finally possesses them all, and then he really CAN take on the entire universe in battle.
because it has stones on it already yet the stones are not assembled
That's not really a problem though, the gauntlet can still be real. The stones can be explained away as fakes (like how museums will use fakes to show how an artifact was supposed to be used.)
