According to the less than completely reliable British newspaper, The Daily Mail. It's not a trashy tabloid like many British 'newspapers', but it's not especially respectable either.

The Mail says Craig will be confirmed by EON later this week, and the script will be altered as he is 37, not 28 as the producers ideally wanted.

And The Mail says Craig will not dye his hair. He will play 007 blonde.

"Bond. James Bond. Maybe."

That's exactly what I said.

Actually, if he dyed his hair, WHICH I'M SURE EON WILL MAKE HIM DO, IT'S OBLIGATORY.....he'd look like the Bond of the books, but not the Bond of the movies.

Yes, I saw Layer Cake on Sunday. Hes definitely a slick Mofo.
But they can't seem to make a GREAT bond movie now...or even one as epic as Roger Moores.
But yeah he'd be my pick for 007.

HNR is reporting it too.

Daniel Craig Cast As 'James Bond 007'
For Director Martin Campbell's Casino Royale
October 11th 2005 06:29am | Posted by: Michael Stevens, HNR Senior Editor

Actor Daniel "Layer Cake" Craig has been cast as the new 'James Bond 007', for director Martin Campbell's upcoming feature Casino Royale, scheduled to begin production January 2006.

After a breakout performance as the character 'Geordie' in the 1996 BBC series Our Friends in the North, Craig followed up with numerous critically acclaimed roles, including the crime thriller Layer Cake.

Craig got the casting nod after an 18-month mission to replace previous Bond actor Pierce Brosnan.

The current box office success of actor Viggo Mortensen in A History Of Violence, also a blonde, blue-eyed, rugged looking character actor, played heavily in Craig's favor.

Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth, big screen James Bond.

They talked about him as definate for 007 yesterday on TRL,i thought they were just misinformed as usual......sadly that doesn't seem to be the case, well thats the death of Bond,we now have an ugly cockney villain in the lead, well done EON:up:

If this is true then I think this is great news. He will be the new Timothy Dalton in the sense that alot of people are going to dislike this news. It just see him getting unfairly bashed early on because he is not what today's crowd thinks Bond should "look like".

I don't care if they dye the hair or not. Roger Moore had brown hair nobody seemed to care. As long as he is a lot more like Fleming's Bond and not EON's this should be pretty damn good. In the hands of the current screenwriter I have a lot of faith. I haven't liked a Bond movie since 1997 and stopped watching them in the cinema by 1999.

I've been wanting to see another "faithful" James Bond movie since I was introduced to the novels in my teens. Can't wait to see how this shapes up this could do for Bond what BB did for Batman.

He's nothing like Flemings Bond, unless being ugly and a cockney villain is what Fleming wrote him as

Okay, I don't seem to be the only one here who was rooting for Craig.

I think he's going to be an amazing Bond. Can't wait for this movie

same here....

So......why didn't they stick with Brosnan again?

I don't have a problem with this guy, I kind of welcome the new Bond look.

Isn't Craig bald? I know they have hairpieces, but still.

First off it was in reference to the way the character acts as hinted by the direction and tone this film is apparently going to take. Not the physical appearance otherwise I would've typed "he looks like Ian Fleming's Bond" but I digress. I don't know how many people here are just Bond movie fans there are around here. I'm just speaking as one of them.

I don't see this casting upseting fans of the novels in any way. This is the Bond I've been trying to see for years now. A real ****ing spy in a real spy movie. Not Mr. Cool saving the entire planet from destruction. This will get me to see Bond films again, now if it sucks as a film that's another matter. But it could also end up being like OHMSS or The Living Daylights, a great Bond film but highly misunderstood. We'll just have to wait and see.

Even as the Bond of the book, Craig is less attractive I think. Book Bond looked like a pure XIXth century romantic hero, physically at least. I guess Craig has the charisma of the Bond of the book. He never screamed Bond to me, but is a better choice than Goran Vishgndsivsky or Henry "Baby" Cavill.

Goran would have been a better look
