Why did Ang Lee make the Hulk so big?

well his size did make interaction with other humans slightly strange but that's about it...

if you see the dvd, it shows you a schematic that there is an upper limit of growth, pretty much just like there is an upper limit on how angry someone can get.

Let's say someone drank all of the Hulk's milk then put the carton back in the frig empty, but wait the Hulk has already poured his bowl of Lucky Charms. There is no limit to that kind of anger, he would go to 50 feet, no doubt in my mind.

Do I sense a hint of sarcasm in your post?
Every thing has it's limits. (Except for god)

Like for example, Magneto can control metal, but how come he doesn't just summon all the metal in the world in one place?
Phoenix can control anything with her mind, but how come she couldn't instantly kill wolverine?
Wolverine cannot be broken because of the metal in his body, but how come this happened?

Now back to hulk, hulk's cells can only expand and duplicate themselves so much. His max height would probably be 20ft no matter how angry he is.

it's funny people talk about hulk's size being too big in the film but the size in proportionate to wolverine in that picture is the size in proportionate to betty that the hulk was in.

i guess a lot of people don't realise how much the variation in teh hulk size differs not only from artist to artist but from scene to scene...

The only reason that I can think of for Ang Lee making the Hulk so big is that he was over compensating. We all know that it was him in the motion capture suit so by making the Hulk bigger perhaps he felt bigger... :p

In all likely hood it was just that he thought Hulk needed to be big in order for people to believe has was that strong. Silly reason considering that people thing of Superman as being stronger...

Superman ia an alien channeling solar energy. The Hulk is a beast fueled by rage, who has ALWAYS been described as a massive, muscular being, weighing in excess of 1,000 pounds.
I also remember reading way back in '97-LONG BEFORE ANG LEE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PROJECT-that the plan was to make a CGI Hulk so they could show him at his true size & distance the movie from the TV show. It was what they always intended to do & that was the size he was supposed to be.
And Superman isn't stronger.

Exactly, the Hulk isnt just a big man, he a raging monstor who is a force of nature that is nigh on impossible to stop, his size in the movie fitted something like that IMO.

Besides, when you have a being that CONSTANTLY refers to all of humanity as being "puny", wouldn't it make sense that he was noticeably bigger than any human being could ever get?

Now thats one good point right there!

this size issue is really crap! his size was fine, everything was ok! its just that ther was too much drama in the film that made it so dark! that's why avi was more concern about doing a lighter HULK than the size definitions that some dumb-dumbs so annoyingly suggests!

Your name suggests a lack of objectivity on this matter.

Okay....

Look in any Hulk video game, including the official Hulk movie game, and notice how tall the Hulk is.

Look in any Hulk cartoon.

Compare the size of Hulk action figures, specifically the Marvel Legends, with other Marvel character figures.

Go to marvel.com and check the Hulk's height.

Go to any Hulk fanpage and check the Hulk's height.

Avi Arad has confirmed the Hulk will be smaller in the sequel.

It's called artistic licence. The Hulk has always officially been 7-9 feet tall.

but when was the last time wolverine was drawn as a 5ft 3 individual

Seems to be a hard one to retort, as well.

What's harder to retort is the implausibility of a man growing to the size of 15' Hulk and keeping his pants intact! I mean, in those San Fran shots, he looked like he was wearing purple spandex biker shorts, for crying out loud!

9' feet tall and 1500(?) pounds would still make anyone else seem puny. Or do you know of any people with those stats?

I think this pic shows the Hulk at the size he should be portrayed? Why go bigger?

Those pants were made to expand, that's why they put them on Bruce(both the production team, and in movieverse the military). Notice how loose they are on Bruce when he returns in downtown San Francisco. As the material had been stretched. They were intending to make Bruce Hulk out, so they could recover some of Hulk's genetic material. Of course they were pretty off the mark with how powerful Hulk is.
Judging by how tight they were on Hulk the material was probably stretched to its limits.:marv:
First Hulk out he wasn't as big and so Bruce's pants could just barely hang on. 2nd transformation the pants end up being torn up bad(leaving little cover), and then destroyed in the dogfight.
And think about it logically, who would wanna see Hulk's genitals? Happened in the comics too, Hulk would always retain his pants somehow. So it wasn't like Ang was being inconsistent with the comics in this regard.
But if you like to see male genitalia, I guess that's your personal right to. But I think most people would rather not see it. Me included.:(
So that very stretchy material becomes Bruce's pants.
As for the height of 15', you should really address complaints to Marvel for allowing artists to inconsistantly draw Hulk being that large. Ang didn't start this.

Yes, it would probably frighten you. :D

Seriously though, many women might dispute your claim when you speak for "most people"! My girlfriend at the time as well as her friends who went with us all said (when his pants were nearly ripped off in the dogfight)"I wonder how big he is!" She wasn't talking about his weight!

Me personally, I never said I wanted to see the Hulk's genitalia (though I'm sure it would be quite a sight to behold!) and how you twisted what I said into me wanting to see his Johnson is beyond me. I said DON'T MAKE HIM 15' TALL SO IT'S EASIER TO BELIEVE HE COULD KEEP HIS PANTS INTACT, not IF HE'S GOING TO BE 15' TALL THEN MAKE HIS PANTS FALL OFF!

If you care to look at the movie, the scene where the Hulk climbs up the ladder at the underground base, there's an extreme long-shot of the Hulk and all the military men. Look at how big those shorts are compared to the men. You could easily fit 2 of those men completely inside those things! Rediculous!

But as you have to twist it SOME way to make sense of it..then maybe the Army DID spend tons of money to develop a fabric that would stretch that much just so the Hulk wouldn't be naked when they killed him!

Where'd you get that stretchy-pants info, anyway? You have a source or did you just figure that out for yourself?
