I know this is a weird topic but has anyone else noticed this? I've worked out at many gyms over the last 23 years. In every one of them, there always seems to be at least one guy ( usually around 60 years of age ) who is working out in a polo shirt. I've even seen guys working out in short sleeve dress shirts.
Does anyone know the rationale behind this?

Hmm... can't say that I've seen a lot of that. But I have seen a lot of old guys working out in cut off Gold's Gym midriff sweatshirts. :csad:

I saw one guy wearing a cutoff 80s Macintosh midriff sweatshirt one time. I made fun of him and he flexed at me. :csad:

YIKES! I've seen that out of the guys that are senior citizen bodybuilders. Not attractive.
I've been at Gold's for 4 years now and I've seen more guys dressed up while working out than at other gyms. I don't go to the gym in rags but I don't I think I'd ever wear a $50 shirt there either.

lol thats funny this thread was started cause i went to our local fitness center today(OMNI YAH BABY) and there were like 2 punk kids trying to look buff wearing polo's and working out.
funny stuff since the kids had NO muscle tone and kept like making grunting sounds to look kool

I have to be honest and say I workout in polo shirts when I do work out because very simply I have hardly any t-shirts....

were you wearing your 'Joker Henchman' outfit?

The guys who dress up to workout are just...that...rich, man! They sweat money!

The ones that freak me out are all the old guys who just hang out in the locker room. Naked.

God am I glad I have all my own gear at home to work out with.

"Um sir, why is that boy collecting your sweat?"

"Son, that's pure gold there, pure gold."

its probably too much work for the geezers to be changing clothes so much during the day. if they know they are going to work out on a specific day, they probably plan their outfit to include the workout routine.

I work out in what ever I happen to be wearing that day. I'm a t-shirt and jeans guy, so it's usually that, but if I happen to be wearing a polo shirt, so be it.

I totally noticed this too! I can't wait to see someone benching in a suit.

they enjoy nipple chaffing i assume.

That's nasty. There is no way I could do that. My clothes look like I've been swimming after I work out.

I wish I could do that but trying to do squats or yoga in jeans seems impossible to me.

Does it really matter? I work out in random throwaway shirts.

It doesn't matter. I just think it's weird since polos/dress shirts don't seem like the most functional thing in which to work out.

Never seen any old guys at any gyms I've been to over the last 15 years who were wearing polo shirts, that is to say, I don't recall any.

My gym uniform-

Black sweat pants by Nike
White XL ribbed vest
Black wristbands/gloves

It's not a fashion show, it's about sweating and grunting.

haha it's not a fashion show, but you let the thread know your sweats are Nike.

Haha yeah, maybe I was injecting a subtle comedic element to my post, but in any case- sweat pants don't exactly look cool.

Incidentally, Nike is the only sports wear I er.... wear.

Just out of interest, in the US, is a 'polo shirt' just a T shirt with a collar? Because if I was going the gym & wearing a T shirt, I wouldn't think twice about putting a polo shirt on, they're in the same category for me.

A polo/golf shirt has a collar, button-up neck, and cuffed sleeves. At least, the nicer ones do.
