Well, it depends on which terrorists. I'm assuming you're talking about the Middle Eastern ones, correct? Well, there are many reasons. The main one is that they see the west (which includes the United States and much of Europe) of having screwed over their nations regularly for the last century. That statement, in of itself, is somewhat acurate. That does not mean, however, that I agreee with their actions.

Because Islamic extremists have a warped view of reality. Jihad and all that ****. Look at how they're reacting to the Pope's quoting of a Bizantine emperor.
