Why does the JLA style itself the Justice League Of AMERICA?

Yeah, celldog is a nationalistic ass.
Wait, that's Celldog? Oh, of course it is! I wondered why his incoherent dribbling was familiar.

Europe was and still is far more guilty for pillaging and plundering the developing world than the United States.
Not in the modern era. Many of the places ransacked by the European powers have reasserted themselves. The U.S., however, continues to maintain a very tight, bloody, and insidious grip on any region that it considers a threat to its power base.

The United States isn't the one who colonized Africa, set up horribly drawn borders, and left when it took everything leaving it a s**thole and completely unprepared for self-governing.
But at the end of the day, you're quite right. The West, as a whole, is responsible for all of this, and even if the U.S. disarmed and isolated tomorrow, someone else would step up. What's required is a completely paradigm shift, away from unfettered capitalism and competition. When the paradigm of Western civilization becomes compassion, rather than competition, we will see a finer world.

Stop being so damn ignorant though. It'll only provoke more ignorance.
I don't feel that I'm being ignorant. I'm focusing on more recent history because that's what can still be changed and righted a bit.

When did you get so open-minded? I thought I remembered you as being almost as bad as Celldog, back in the day.

Second I was being sarcastic about my commenst cause the guy who mentioned Australia before like it was better than America and that is not true.
I'll tell you what is better than America, though: learning proper grammar and spelling.

Hush said:
They both have there faults but to blantantly say that My country sucks
It does. I can count the good things the US has done, as a government, on one hand.

Hush said:
Australia which, and i mean know offense, i havent heard in the news or seen any thing HUGE come out of in the past 10 years of history is just a flat out silly.
The media doesn't talk about them because then they would have to acknowledge how well democratic socialism has worked there. And who says something HUGE needs to come out of a place for it to be a decent place? When something HUGE comes out of a nation, it's usually a war.

Hush said:
I have no problem with Australians and the country itself i have a few friends from there.
And I bet all your best friends are black, too, right?

I was speaking in terms of government.

Well, yeah, the Government's pretty screwed up. But almost every government is. Hell, we learned all of our dirty, under handed covert ops techniques from the British, who are, by the by, masters when it comes to that stuff. Practically invented it.

Culturally, it certainly does have a lot to offer, although I can't help but notice that many of the things you refer to have lost their luster. Baseball has been permanently sullied by Barry bonds. Jazz and the blues are relegated to hardcore fans and annoying hipsters. Broadway, as a rule, hasn't been good since someone decided that rock-musicals were cool. Folk music, like jazz and the blues, is way underrated and underexposed, and doesn't have the power and influence it once had. The GE Building is a building. Cajun funerals are still Cajun funerals, I suppose. Barbeques remain unsullied, except when rich or upper middle class businessman try to be grillers, and miss so much of the point of what makes a barbeque great (like being a human being.) Pizza is so not an American invention. I have nothing bad to say about Jack Daniels, but I will say that light beer seems to be much more popular these days, and that is a very bad American tradition. And Jimi's dead.

Major League Baseball may have been sullied by Bonds, but Major League baseball isn't the sum total of Baseball. Folk, Jazz, and Blues may not have as big an impact any more, but I don't think they need to. I actually prefer it when you have to work a little bit to find a good Jazz musician. Broadway still has a rich history to it, and will make a come back eventually. Jimi may be dead, but is music isn't. And the GE building is the headquarters of NBC, which is a major part of American culture.

But he said British writers.

Ah. You're right. My mistake.

Again, I point to the Aussies. Comparatively, their hands just aren't nearly as dirty as those of other major regional powers.

But the Israelis are the current masters of that stuff. Mossad is unstoppable.

Wow you just know me all to well my friend i mean jeez how could i have dared open my mouth and expressd an opinion! You count on one hand too? Wow you must be a genius! Honestly just chill dude I was defending a counrty that was blatantly attacked by you.
I hate to break this to you but media is not just controled by America so your argument is dead in the water there, considering if you have a big achievement it would get worldwide attention due to your own media propganda.
I have one best friend who happens to be black and my dad was a missionary who went to Australia and brought a youth pastor back with him and they stayed in our house so maybe you shouldnt be such an ignorant ass, or you could and people will just point and laugh. Im hoping for the later.
As for grammar and spelling get the hell over it we are on a message board and im not writing a paper for class so dont grade on grammar and spelling.

What typical American arrogance and hatred. The US was founded on a bunch of *****ers and moaners who wouldn't pay their taxes to a government that only wanted them to shoulder a little of the financial burden of THEIR OWN PROTECTION. What a profound and invigorating culture.

They also wanted to worship in there own way with out having a religon forced on them so they went to a new world. They felt no reason to pay taxes due to the fact that they didnt need to if they were independant from the country that was imposing taxes. This country was based on religon and that will always be the way it is. They also found a way to defend themselves and beat off that goverment. A countries history doesnt need to be profound and invigorating to make it a good country.

Wow you just know me all to well my friend i mean jeez how could i have dared open my mouth and expressd an opinion!
Feel free to continue expressing opinions. I will feel free to continue punching holes the size of Madagascar in them.

I believe you missed the point of that statement.

And doing a right poor job of it.

The American media is, however.

You still seem to be under the misguided perception that I'm from Australia. Anyway, your assertion isn't necessarily true. Worldwide media attention is not necessarily a guarantee, even with huge leaps and bounds in quality of life such as one finds in Australia. If it doesn't serve the overarching agenda of the media, or of those who own the media, then it stands a good chance of not being reported on or discussed. But if you would actually go out and read some Australian newspapers, or watch some Australian TV, or just plain do some research on Australia, you'd find that everything I'm saying is true.

Again, you really missed my point. There's a little nugget of fun in the quoted passage for any George Carlin fans out there. I've bolded it.

F.

They also wanted to worship in there own way with out having a religon forced on them so they went to a new world.
That has nothing to do with American independence. Please, learn history before speaking on it. Secondly, those crusaders for religious freedom turned into some of the most theocratic religious dictators. They didn't want religious freedom. They just wanted THEIR religion to be the one oppressing people.

Hush said:

But we still pay taxes. And the taxes that the colonies were paying were absolutely necessary to ensure our safety. Essentially, we would ***** to the British about not keeping our borders protected, and then ***** to the British when they asked us to maybe pay a little bit of the money for that protection. Oh, those dastardly British.

Hush said:

Nobody was talking about that, but OK. Yeah, I agree. Especially since Thomas Jefferson rewrote the Bible to edit out any mention of a divine Jesus. Yep, quite Christian, our founding fathers. Many of the others were freethinkers or atheists. That's been conveniently forgotten in high school history courses, but if you take a real history class, or just do some reading, you'll find the truth.

(Before anyone jumps on me, no, that's not the only source for this. It's a published document. I just needed a quick reference source. And someday, people will accept wikipedia for the excellent, reliable document that it is.)

Hush said:

Oh how vivid. And for the record, the American rebels didn't defend themselves. They just asked the French for help. The French won the Revolutionary War.

I cant argue with a moron I have no time for talking to idiotic *******s. You site Wikipedia like it is the Holy Grail of knowledge. Im sorry i thought you were Australian and you werent, but to me it looked like you were letting on that you were. I like Australia for the record. Sorry i made America look bad Bubba but i was the only one to actually stand up to an idiot.

He was a coherent idiot...

You're not an idiot, Aristotle...

Australia rules.
Let's go there together! I mean...as friends...

Wait, I'm the guy backing up his claims with sourcing, with the potential to reference even more research (not just Wiki), and typing in proper English, but I'm the moron and the idiotic *******? I'm not following you on that one, shooter.

Hush said:

I said nothing of the sort. I said that it is an excellent, reliable document, but that I knew in advance no one would accept that. However, the Jefferson Bible is a published work. My citation of wikipedia in that instance was just a bit of a primer on what the JB is.

In summary, Hush, you took my attack quite personally, when it had nothing to do with individual Americans. My beef is with the leaders that have hoodwinked decent, honest, hardworking people like you and a lot of other people into believing that what the government is doing is right. In actual fact, they are ****ting all over the Constitution and everything people like you think this country stands for, and they've been doing that since Day One. That oughtta be enough to make you as angry and passionate as I am.

Aristole an have his opinions, he sounds like a racist and alittle bigoted, but its his right to be that way.

The point of my post simply was that the United States was a fast growing super power in Western history. Judge that fact however you like.

As for the environmental damage, sure other countries have contributed to environmental damage. The Soviet Union turned a large area of Kazahkstan into a radioactive dead zone, about the size of Switzerland. But that doesn't dismiss the amounts of pollution and other waste that America has made.

I think it's rather ignorant to simply ignore the amount of enviromental damage the United States has done. We are obviously guilty of doing a lot of it. It is equally ignorant to ignore what the others have done.

Wait, that's Celldog? Oh, of course it is! I wondered why his incoherent dribbling was familiar.
Of course it's celldog. Celldog got banned for some reason. My guess is being a neo-conservative ignorant assinine troll. You should have seen when Memphis first joined and tried to deny that he was.

Not in the modern era. Many of the places ransacked by the European powers have reasserted themselves. The U.S., however, continues to maintain a very tight, bloody, and insidious grip on any region that it considers a threat to its power base.
Many places ransaked by the European powers are still s**tholes. Africa is the prime example. Look at the Middle East. They're still affected by the crap Europe has done to them.

Listen, I'm not saying that the United States has done horrible things. We have. But we aren't the most guilty power out there and you can't just look at the bad.

You have a point there, but that's not going to happen. It's simply human nature.

I don't feel that I'm being ignorant. I'm focusing on more recent history because that's what can still be changed and righted a bit.
It is ignorant. The United States government has done some horrible things. But it isn't the be all, end all of judging the United States. We're still a good nation that has a rich culture, a fascinating history (the good and the regrettably bad), and a great blend of people from various backgrounds. Take a look at what the Question said: baseball, football, New York City, Washington D.C., the Grand Canyon, jazz music, etc.

When did you get so open-minded? I thought I remembered you as being almost as bad as Celldog, back in the day.
Yes I used to be very close minded. But people do change. I matured, I learned to listened to various posters here on the Hype, and whatnot. I've seen a few places around the world and you learn that there is more than just the United States and that every country, despite having a few or a lot of blackspots in their history is filled with a rich and interesting culture and that they should be equally respected too.

Although debating about the "evils" and "greatness" of the United States really isn't the topic here. We're all entitled to our opinons here, but we should really get back on topic before someone says something incredibly stupid and ends up getting this thread closed.

To think, some people read comics as a form of escapism. It takes an internet messageboard to ruin that concept.

I'm just waiting for the REAL JLA! The Justice LATINOS of America. Yeah, they're great!!!:o
