Why I don't like 2.1

Why? 2.1 is the theatrical version just with added footage.

Actually, no. In addition to new footage, a lot of the scenes were re-cut or they used alternate takes. This shows most notably in the elevator scene with Hal Sparks. The scene in 2.1 is not as funny and a little akward.

I like MJ's friend in the movie. She's a little hottie too. t:

That's Vanessa Ferlito, aka Butterfly in Taratino's Death Proof. I was pleasantly surprised by this and I feel she was underused. Her scene with MJ not only showcases her acting ability but adds more depth to MJ's character.

I like that scene. Its actually the only major scene for Venessa in the whole movie.

I wouldn't call it an abomination. It doesn't dramatically change the movie that much.

I liked the addition of the MJ scene with her friend about why she's marrying John. Some of the new action was cool, too. But, overall I prefer the original cut.

While 2.1 adds some nice scenes (Harry at Peter's birthday party extended most notably for me), other scenes I felt where not as strong in the 2.1, and my biggest one was the doctor scene. I didn't feel the doctor scene to be even remotely as strong in the extended scene. The way it was cut made it much stronger IMO. I was also bothered by Spidey getting hit by the subway car in the extended train fight, and not being very effected by it. Spidey is tough, but not quite that tough. Again, the cut fight I felt was overall better.

Things like that make me feel the theatrical movie was better. Had a better flow, and some of the cuts were just stronger.

What really bothers me here is the fact that they keep the scene where Ock throw people to Spidey even when there is that scene with the subway collision. I never saw the sense of that scene, and it's really useless here : the simple fact that Peter survived a collision with a subway at full speed should be enough for Doc Ock to take "extreme measures" in order to stop the arachnid! Spider-Man is not supposed to be that tough or strong, but I was already bothered by the scene where he tries to stop the subway with his foot and doesn't get his foot at least broken, so...

Spider-Man 2.1 should've have really been made though...I mean, the deleted scenes weren't really needed and the extra scenes of the Spidey/Doc Ock fights, they just seemed way too fake, especially when Spider-Man got hit by the train and just swung back up like it was only a toothpick...it was a freaking train, he would've either been knocked the eff out or he would've died.

That was just a big marketing pass, to rise interest again, but was really NOT necessary, like those countless director's cut and unrated versions that does IN NO WAY revolution the movie... damn marketing! If it wasn't of greedy companies, we would still have the 2-disc SE dvds for wach movie instead of a 1-disc and 2-disc, and collector's and director's and limited edition...it's so not essential and wasting!

I liked the extended fight scene after the bank robbery when Ock and Spidey are fighting in that office and as Ock throws Spidey out the window,Spidey then webs him and they both fly out the window together. Plus, a few of the train shots were cool,bot everything else I'm glad they left out.

Spider-Man 3.1 or whatever though, we need just to give S-M 3's much needed time and space for every character because we all know Sam Raimi filmed and cut out some needed scenes that would've made the movie a bit better. 3.1 would be for a good marketing strategy and also make the movie itself better.

And yet on the DVD commentary for Spidey 2, Sam Raimi questions whether he should have left that in the theatrical version or not. He felt that maybe that last shot of him taking off his mask was necessary for us to connect with Peter again. That otherwise, people would wonder where Peter got the car that he pulls up in outside MJ's theatre.

This just goes to show as further proof that Raimi really did not understand the character of Spider-man.

Peter should never take off the mask while fighting villains, because when the mask is on, he's being Spider-man, not Peter Parker.

Raimi failed to realize an important staple of the Spider-man and Superhero mythos, that of an alternate identity. When Peter had on the mask, he acted like, and essentially became a different person. Spider-man was an outlet for Pete to let out all those repressed feelings and emotions he had kept inside him as a normal person.

Instead Raimi didn't make Spider-man an interesting character. He had essentially the same attitude and personality as Peter, but wearing a mask. Raimi actually considering adding additional scenes with an unmasked Spidey (the train scene was dumb enough) just goes to show how he really misunderstood Spider-man. He did a good Peter Parker, but he really didn't do Spider-man justice.

And if anyone wants to try and say "it's too hard to convey emotion with an actor's face covered," my only response is, watch V for Vendetta, and try to say that again.

Another thing I don't like in 2.1 : in the hospital scene, the guy with the saw starts the saw just after it fell on him. In the first version, the two scenes are separated by another one where we see a poor hospital guy being killed by the tentacles. That pace is really not good!

Well, I confess I did like the extended battles and I did think Jameson in a spider-suit was kinda funny...but overall it was just intended to part ottophiles from their money.

I finally bought 2.1 and watched it last weekend.

While it was still good, I feel the theatrical cut is stronger. I felt that some of the extended scenes didn't work as well in the film and you could see why it was cut.
