As for the subject of this thread, there are some people who are constant victims and inject false, hidden meanings into things. I'm not saying that racism doesn't exist. Sadly, it's alive and pervasive in some places/groups of people. However, sometimes I have to shake my head.

Two cases in point:

Jar-Jar Binks: George Lucas has never said anything remotely racist to my knowledge. Binks was a silly, lizard like character. Some people found him offensive because he had similarities to another character, Stephin Fetchit. The allegations against Binks were that his ears looked like dreadlocks, his use of the word "me-sa" sounded like "massa" and he walked "like a black person" (whatever that means ). I still don't understand the uproar.

Long John Silver's : In the mid 1990s, they had a character ( Named Mr. Big Fish or JK Big Fish ) who played basketball in one commerical. LJS fielded complaints from people who thought a fish playing basketball was racist because it had big lips. I'm not a fish expert but all the ones I have seen have protruding lips. Moreover, basketball is played all over the world so I don't understand how this is a shot at African Americans.


Sometimes, there are no deeper levels to things.
