But Dave40, you say to move Captain America to the first weekend of May. Then what about Thor?
As both are Marvel productions, they could switch release dates.Captain America is more a crowd pleaser than Thor.
Take a look at Iron Man 2 now.All reports are predicting a monster opening at the Boxoffice, even surpasing the first one.Captain America has all the ingredients to be a huge hit,but being released at the end of July,it has no chances at all.
In the history of Boxoffice, very rarely a movie released at the end of the crowded summer movie season(end of july and August),has made huge numbers at the Boxoffice, and thats a fact.
Captain America is the starting of a new franchise and a fresh, new Superhero movie that is set on WW2,making it more epic and fun than recently comic book movies. It deserves a much better release date and I hope Marvel will move it.
I would even prefer to see it delayed to May 2012 and the Avengers to summer 2013,if that means that it will make better BO numbers and we´ll be sure they will make more Captain America movies. With a better release date, say first weekend of May or Memorial day weekend,Independence Day..etc..Im sure it could make Iron Man numbers very easy.![]()
What makes you think Cap is more of a crowd pleaser than Thor? Maybe to Americans, but not to other people.
Personally I'm looking forward to Thor more, seeing as it has an immense amount of talent behind it and i'm more into myth/fantasy stuff. I'm sure a lot of people will share my mentality.
Sure Paramount could move TF3 but why move a guaranteed money maker(regardless of what people think this movie will make money) for a comic book movie(which arent guaranteed hits)
You answered your own question right there, BECAUSE it's a guaranteed money-maker no matter WHEN it's released. Seriously, they could release their POS movie with giant robots destroying buildings on SEPTEMBER 11TH and it would still make a bajilllion dollars. The 4th of July weekend neither helps nor hinders its box office in any appreciable way, while it could(and WOULD) easily boost Captain America's.
I wouldnt really mind to see Captain America delayed to summer 2012 and The Avengers to summer 2013.That way they will have more time to make them even better.Think of The Avengers ,how big and complicated that movie is going to be.To have Thor,Captain America,Iron Man,Hulk in the same movie. As awesome thats gonna be,they are going to need more time to make it great. Can you imagine the action scenes of the Superhero team?.They must be huge.
