Why would the Serial Number on the Box be different than the console's?

I bought my 360 from EB a year ago and it recently crapped out on me. I went through the process of having a box sent to me so I can ship it to Microsoft. Now, the serial number I filled everything out for was the one attatched to the system. However, they need to have a receipt to prove the purchase and low-and-behold the number on the 360 box was not the same as the one on the system. So the one the EB guy scanned was the one on the box and on the receipt, but not what is on the system.

Microsoft won't except this right? I don't want to send it off for 3 weeks only to have it sent back because the receipt didn't match.

How would it occur that the numbers were different?

Umm, there is no serial number on the box, there is a hole in the box that the serial number peeks through. Either you accidentally switched systems with somebody, or you should go back to EB with this new knowledge.

(This is assuming the 360 box hasn't changed since May of 06)

There is a barcode sticker on the side of the box. Which is what matches the recepit, so they had to've scanned that. But the only barcode on the system is different. I think I would know if I switched systems with someone.

Ugh.. Stupid EB, what'd they do switch boxes for no reason? Now I can't send it to Microsoft, and I'm sure Gamestop will give me problems for having different barcodes.

Microsoft doesn't ask for a receipt. Just the numbers on the console itself.

Yes And No,..but really no
If you read the entire Warranty GUIDE(booklet) it says they want the reciept. But,when you fill out the warranty FORM its not required.

What warranty form?

If you bought the console as new-There should have been a folded long form all folded up within an envelope that has a perforated edge, fill it out with the serial number, your personal info, the bought on date and either a credit card number or a check.

One thing I never got(maybe someone knows)..Where it asked for credit card info it read something like "for deferred" or "delayed payment"??Seemed weird to me,..I would think that the credit card would be more acceptable than a check
