Will DS's Success Help Revolutions?

Ok, that was last year. Show stats from this year. The PSP is on the edge of failure, UMD movies are already starting to disappear frome shelves and the GOOD games on the PSP are few and far between.

I'm sure the PSP had a spurt around the Holidays....but I doubt they ever move above Nintendo long term. More so with the Lite coming out and the New Super Mario Bros game being released soon.

It's SO hard to find stats. I had to work hard just to find those ones. I am POSITIVE Zenin (I think) had a thread showing PSP was more or less on track to over take it.

UMDs no one buys because they want a games console, not because the PSP sucks.

The Playstation Portable has surpassed the Nintendo DS in the North American market thanks to games such as Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and will gain more momentum with games of series such as Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, etc. The Playstation Portable would have surpassed the Nintendo DS in sales if games such as Nintendogs and Mario Kart DS came along and boosted sales for a short time. However games like Nintendogs and others cater more to the Japanese market, hence why the Nintendo DS is surpassing the Playstation Portable in Japan.

UMD movies are going off the shelves because the concept was stupid, they were too expensive, and DVDs are just much better. However that does not show that the Playsation Portable is on the verge of failure. More Grand Theft Autos, Metal Gears, and Final Fantasies are on the way which will help the Playstation Portable in sales. It's why the Playstation Portable has overcome the Nintendo DS in sales in the North American market. Nintendo is going to get a rather short spurt in sales soon with the Nintendo DS Lite and New Super Mario Bros., but will die down to more normal levels shortly afterwards.

sure i think when lite hits and supermario hits sales will go threw the roof, but. the ds out sold the psp during christmas thanks to the games not poor choices on the psp. the UMDs suck. thats why there gettin pulled. and as far as the mp3 playable functions, if you want to listen to mp3s that bad, you probly own an ipod or other mp3 player. like you said, if psp wants to get back in the hand held contest, they got to come out with better games. with nintendogs, metroid prime hunters and animal crossing leading the system in game sales. i dont see it slowing down at all even after mario hits.

Ignoring the PSP/DS battle for a moment. (I don't believe that the PSP has surpassed the DS YET, but both handhelds are doing incredibly well, and both are going to have a steady stream of high quality releases coming (DS more so but the PSP undoubtedly has the heavier singular hitters coming)... but in all honestly neither is EVER going to 'win' the handheld war. THe DS actually outsold the PSP last month apparently.

I do think that the DS will help the Revolution... at least in Japan. The DS is a full blown amazing sucess in Japan, and it's no secret that the DS and Revolution have similar approaches to the type of gaming they're tryign to give the user in more ways than just looking similar. Expect the Revolution to do much better than the Gamecube did in Japan. That's about all my crystal ball will tell me.

I agree with you on the functions of the Playstation Portable. The MP3 player and the UMD movies were stupid ideas. But I've noticed when games like Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime: Hunters, and Nintendogs are released, the Nintendo DS sales go up surpassing the Playstation Portable, the same will happen when New Super Mario Bros and the Nintendo DS Lite are released. But all the other times, the Playstation Portable sales go up when a major game for the Nintendo DS is not released.

Well I'm not sure how accurate this is, but this article says the PSP outsold DS in the US by 1 million in 2005

And DS was totally outsold by the PSP in England, I know that much for sure seeing as PSP was the fastest selling console in history (at least untill the 360) in the Uk.

I think one thing Nintendo needs to make known when Promoting the Revolution is the ability to download Classic Games into the Revolution. This will be a MAJOR SELLING POINT especially for Old School Nintendo Fans

not all games can be found in ROMs. Plus you can't get get N64 games on the computer since the controls on a comp suck for them.

Who ever thinks Sony is winning in the handheld race is an idiot. Keep in mind Nintendo has 3 Handhelds out (4 in Japan). Currently in Japan, Nintendo outsells PSP at about a 5 to 1 ratio. In the States, PSP is selling well. When compared to GBA and DS sales combined, not so well anymore. And on a global stand point, PSP is getting raped. And no, its not gaining momentum, if anything its losing momentum. So where ever you read that, I beg you to show me... and I'll show you where I read its losing momentum.

Nintendo owns the handheld market, and it always will, PSP WILL fail, not right now... but it will. PSP will not be around in 2010, not a second version, or third, none at all. I'm not saying that cause I'm a Nintendo fan or anything... software-wise, psp blows. It is getting a bit better, but Nintendo on a software stand point, is blowing PSP away. Just check the games sold stats.

Yeah, it's such a hassle to select a different folder.

Totally not worth the money you save. I'd rather spend $200 + game cost instead of downloading one or two 3kb files.
