The Dark Knight Rises Will this movie break the trilogy curse?

Will TDKR break the trilogy curse? Not in most people's eyes, which is a shame, because it won't be judged on it's own merits. It already isn't.

If you look at Godfather III, just as its own entity, it's a very good movie. It's just not one of the greatest movies of all time like it's predecessors, so people view it as some type of failure instead of enjoying it for what it is, a damn good film.

There's a very real chance TDKR could be the worst movie of the trilogy while still being quite enjoyable. If you guys view that as a failure, so be it. Most of the time, the trilogy "curse" only comes into play when the first two installments went above and beyond, usually considered some of the best of it's respective genre. The law of averages tells me having three in a row is a most difficult endeavor. So I'll enjoy it just like I do SM3, for what it is...

I believe it will, honestly I don't think there is a real chance it will be worse. I think this film will be easily better than Batman Begins, but maybe not as significant as TDK. I could see it getting to that level at best, and at worst being around Begins level but slightly better. Begins had some problems but was so superb, it was clear with his later movies he does not really have those same problems. I really have no doubts that this film will be great, but to what level it is hard to judge right now. But it's the feeling I have, people said we were getting way too hyped for TDK, beyond hyped with all the marketing, and be prepared fro disappointment, and we were not. I think the same will happen here.

I don't think the film will be as well received as TDK, but that certainly doesn't mean it won't surpass it. Meaning, much like Inception, it'll be critically acclaimed, but not as much as TDK. Maybe an 87-90 on Rotten Tomatoes. If we're lucky, a better score than TDK. We'll see how it all pans out. See you in December. :cwink:

I have a hard time believing this will be anything other than at the minimum very good. I mean look at the damn cast! You have 8-10 of the top 40 actors/actresses in the world, all being directed by one of the best directors in hollywood. I think hes trying to hit a grand slam. I get the feeling they are going all out, and at least if they miss, theyll have missed swinging hard.(to use a baseball analogy lol)

Idk why everyone thinks that this movie cant surpass TDK. This movie can easily surpass TDK IMO

I'd say maybe in action it will surpass TDK. But story? I don't know. I really hope so.

At worse it will be as good as Begins . I am starting to believe it can surpass TDK . Either way a very good movie at worse . This film is lining up to be the largest ( darkest) and epic of the series .

TDK's story was good but it wasnt amazing. As long as TDKR sticks to bruces story and has something interesting to tell, then it can easily beat it

Personally, I think it begs the question, "By whose judgment"? You personally, critics, or a general consensus? Because not everyone likes The Dark Knight more than Batman Begins as it is. So the question is, "Who is to judge TDKR's success or failure to break the trilogy curse?"

The general & critical consensus is that they are 2 of the best superhero films . Sure there will be some who don't like anything . Hell some think X3 The Last Stand was good .

You're itching to say that TDKR should be closer to BB dont you? ;)

TDKR should be Bruce's story in that we see how he copes with the events of TDK and the ****storm that's brewing with Bane and his mercs...no reason you gotta go closer to BB for that.

I think this movie easily can; Bane already seems much more vicious than Joker and will provide an intellectual and physical challenge.

I think Bane will be a lot more apathetic than Joker. Where as Joker was charming and charismatic, Bane could be so vile that you're rooting for Batman till the very end.

There isn't a curse, just a consistent history of studio interference, director changes, ewoks and making trilogy toppers with nothing in mind but the dollar, dollar bills. None of which apply to TDKR.

There is no reason for this film to be anything less than what has come before it - other than perhaps Nolan being a little bored with the franchise and bereft of inspiration and new ideas - Good luck convincing me of that.

The idea of a curse though is some damn fine motivation for Nolan (if he needs it) he's on the cusp of something truly special, I wont doubt the man until he gives me reason to.
