No Way Home "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility" - Tobey Maguire Returns As RaimiVerse Spider-Man

Well maybe people have the idea that 50 is old. I wonder if Aunt May and Uncle Ben were only meant to be around 50 in the original comics but Steve Ditko drew what he thought 50 year olds looked like and ended up drawing people who looked like they were in their 80s and positively geriatric.

In comics it would be difficult to represent a 40 year old man with just like art. Of course, someone like Clark Kent actually looked like he was in his 40s.

Huh?

So, given that he's clearly in the lunging shot at the Statue of Liberty climax, we're either going to see him fight with Lizard or Electro.

Hyped for either option.

Getting to see Tobey Spidey fighting a Lizard in live action finally would be cool. Imagine if he hears that it's a Doctor Connors? What if he fought the Lizard in his world at some point since SM3 and says his Doctor Connors is less of a dick lol?

The best Peter Parker / Spder-Man, no discussion.

Love Tobey. He’s the og and brought the character to life on screen. That being said, I’ve always had some issues with his Spider-Man. It has nothing to do with his acting ability because it’s obviously off the charts. It’s just Tobeys monotone way of speaking that doesn’t fit the high energy over the top character of Spider-Man. Again not his fault at all.

Still love him as the character and his interpretation of Peter Parker resonates so well.

This is my question about Webb and Raimi Spidey, will we see them as we last did or will they appear as though time and multiple events have changed them in ways, indicating further adventures post their last screen appearances?

Will they use de-aging VFX to make them look younger? Andrew may not require it but Tobey really can't pass for a college senior Peter anymore.

I actually wouldn't mind if like Tobey was a bit different. Like maybe he's turned a bit more sarcastic and quippy and talks to Tom at some point and is "Yeah... I went through a lot. A lot of tears... So I started to laugh through the pain and started to stop being a doormat as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. It did wonders for my sanity. You should try it."

His Spidey needed more one liners but overall he's definitely my favourite. Most physical Spidey and the only one who fully convinced me that his Parker is the true awkward kid struggling to fit in turned hero. Beautiful story that.

How will Tobey Peter react to being in the MCU I wonder? Like will we learn that in Tobey’s universe characters in the MCU like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and are fictional comic book characters that Maguire Peter grew up reading along with the DC characters instead of living breathing people that actually existed? Or will we find out he has own versions of these characters that exists in his universe? It mostly likely won’t be addressed either way but it’s kind of fun to think about.

That would be definitely interesting to find out. He had a comic book Elektra poster in his bedroom in SM1 lol. It would be cool if the 2000s Marvel movies all were canon in the same universe, they tried to make it happen a few times with the ill-fated Wolverine cameo in SM1 and having the Punisher stunt double in SM2. They gotta have a line addressing Doctor Strange at the very least.

I wouldn't be surprised if mentioning Marvel heroes existing in the Rain and Webb Sony continuities is legally problematic and thus won't get touched on.

I won't lie though... The fictional world where as fate would have it, ONLY ONE GUY is threading the needle of bending real world physics and logic to be a super hero and the only others like him with abilities just so happen to also be the members of his rogues gallery always bugged me whether Donner, Burton or Raimi, frankly most pre-MCU CBMs.

For some reason I think I find it harder to believe that just one guy out of billions is doing this kind of stuff as opposed to the approach of "Here in this world **** like this can just happen to anyone".

I was today years old when I learned this.

I kind of hope we get some interaction between Raimi Peter and MCU Strange where Strange introduces himself to him & Garfield Peter and Raimi Peter recognizing the name then says something along the lines of, “Oh yeah…there’s also a guy who goes by that name in my universe.”

The things that stands out to me about this vid is that he has a friend named Terry McGinnis and that he says that he grew up with Tobey despite the fact he was a nineteen year old adult when the first Spider-Man came out. :funny:

I could see a conversation between their Spidey's and Tom's being a little like in Ultimate Fantastic Four when that realities Reed Richards was conversing with (what he thought was) the 616 version.

Basically there is only a handful of superpowered beings in the Raimi/Webb reality but the MCU has hundreds.

If the version of Maguire Peter that we see in this film is indeed the same one we know and love from the Raimi films I hope they establish in dialogue that after Spider-Man 3 he became a science teacher at his old high school like in the JMS run comic run. Don’t think it’d make much sense to have him still work as a photographer for Jonah after fourteen years.
