No Way Home "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility" - Tobey Maguire Returns As RaimiVerse Spider-Man

It may be an unpopular opinion but I liked Maguire's performance here waaaaaay more than I did on any of his solo films. A lot more variation with his line delivery, and more active instead of seeming meek/timid all of the time. My biggest gripe with those films has always been how one-note literally every single one of his line deliveries was.

You're not alone. I also thought he was better this time around. Maybe he just has a better understanding of the character or it could that he felt he had to step up the energy standing next to Andrew and Tom. Whatever the case, I preferred him in this movie more then in his trilogy.

Rewatching the trilogy yesterday it was insane how he got constantly out-acted in the dramatic scenes with James Franco and Kirsten Dunst even tho their characters are significantly more boring than Peter. Here he actually managed to hold his own.

I feel the same way dude. Trust me. I've said the same things before. One of my concerns was that Tobey was going to be his usual dry self this time around and he wasn't. I really like the energy Tobey brought. Again, next to someone like Andrew he's never going to shine as bright just because this role and concept is tailor made for Andrew. He did a good job though holding his own and much like you said....I prefer him in this then in his own movies.

I have to admit y’all when Tobey came onscreen it took me a few beats to soak in that it was actually happening and I was a little jarred by how much older and weathered Tobey’s Peter looked and acted. He wasnt the same “aw shucks” Peter from the Raimi movies but there was a maturity to him which is what I was hoping for but it…took me a while to get used to it, you know? Seeing Tobey not with that baby faced charm was an adjustment to me.

But damn it was good to see him in that suit again.

It was awesome seeing Tobey again. He had excellent chemistry with the rest of the cast and you could tell he was having fun with the role. His Peter felt like a natural progression from the Raimi films

I enjoyed the part
when he got to reunite with Ock. Loved their interaction, it was short but sweet

I was wondering though
both Norman and Ock survived and were given a second chance. So does this mean both are alive again in the Raimi-verse?

Hope this isn’t the last time we see Tobey. The multiverse is alive & well and Sony would be dumb not to jump on the opportunity to do another Tobey Spider-Man movie without the constraints of the MCU

The passage of time since we last saw Tobey as Spider-Man really elevated the emotions for me here, too. So much has happened between then and now, so just being able to see an old friend again means the world to me. I'm gonna see the movie a second time today. I want to keep savoring it haha.

He was terrific. He played the mature, mellow "seen-and-been through it all" Spidey wonderfully.

I was hoping Tobey would acknowledge Jameson in some fashion and have Jameson react to there being 3 spider men.

I just wish there would be at least one scene where I could take a look and see Tobey in some epic shot in full costume and mask. Everthing felt so rushed.

Yeah I didn't feel like there was ever one really good shot of Tobey or Andrew in the suit, full mask for atleast a solid few seconds. Everything jumped around so quick.

I read the leak and saw the clip on social media and still thought he was a goner. Glad he wasn't. Loved that scene with Garfiels asking if he was in pain.

I was smiling so big under my mask the whole time Tobey and Andrew were on screen, they were so perfect at bringing their versions back with the time passed. Tobey felt so warm and friendly as an older Peter. I like how it seems like he's pretty much still been at it and kinda well-adjusted.

The scene with Tobey's Peter complaining about his back and Andrew's Peter cracking his back for him is one of my favorite moments, I was seeing like a WikiHow drawing of somebody cracking another's back that way all over Twitter multiple times the last few days and in that moment it instantly clicked for me lol. I've just been going back and watching the leaked clips now to relive some of those moments til I see it again in theaters soon.

Only thing I wish is I don't think we ever got a shot of him with the mask on that wasn't CGI. Gimme more of all of the Spidey's, honestly.

Id be surprised if they didn't do this team up again. Maybe even adding a few more Spider-men

While I’m aware of a rumor of Marvel wanting Tobey and Andrew back for Secret Wars, I kind of want this to be both their swan songs to the role. I don’t need to see either of them back as Spidey after this as I couldn’t think of a higher note to go out on than this movie.

I mean, isn’t it nice both of them get to go out with well liked movies like this instead of the last movies we saw them in like Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 3, where they had mixed to negative reception? I don’t think we need anymore. I see this movie as more a final goodbye to them and less a promise for things to come. That being said, if Tobey Maguire ends up further appearances like a cameo in Doctor Strange Into the Multivese of Madness I won’t be against it.

God, to see him 14 years later and having become the man that his Uncle Ben always wanted and believed he would become was just incredible to watch. The way they showcased him as pretty much the big brother of the 3 Spideys was just brilliant, and the chemistry that all three had with each other just reminded me of how blessed Spider-Man has been live action wise. I love the Raimi films massively so this all actually happening is so damn surreal, and to see Tobey’s Peter so damn mature in this just made me so happy. He did it Uncle Ben!

I dont think they will be in the multiverse of madness. Secret wars could be fun. I do wonder whether that might be the endgame/infinity wars of this marvel Phase.
