No Way Home "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility" - Tobey Maguire Returns As RaimiVerse Spider-Man

It didn’t necessarily have to be a fight. I just would have preferred twisted crazy Norman having a moment with Tobey….some dialogue….Just felt kind of rushed to me and a missed opportunity.

Yup, final battle was a mess... Not much time for anything.

Final Battle was beautiful… especially considering how MCU films are usually messy at the end. This had a fun intro/prep, showcasing their need for their need to team up / interesting shots, a simple ladder of taking each villain down one by one.

Honestly, was planned out great. Especially how muddy even Black Panther’s final fight was only having two people fighting. This had 3/4 Vs. 4.

Of the three Raimi villains in the movie I'm glad it was Ock who got an exchange scene with Tobey's Peter.

Octavius was the most personal villain in terms of being a reflection of Peter. Their character arcs were mirror images of each other in SM-2. Peter was being irresponsible by giving up being Spider-Man so he could live his dream of a normal life. Ock was being irresponsible by doing evil things to make his fusion reactor dream happen. In the end they both came full circle and took responsibility. They connected personally the most as people.

So it was great to have that moment with them.
Yeah, Peter and Norman never had the connection that Peter and Otto did. With Norman, it was basically him fawning over Peter, all but flat out saying "I wish I had you for a son instead of Harry!" with Peter being appreciative of his gestures but still keeping his distance as the events of the first movie unfolded.

I have to admit at first, Tobey's...energy threw me off a bit. He was playing it so low key, almost like he didnt wanna be there but then I realized that I think it was intentional and directed that way to convey him being an older, weathered Peter. And some of his dialogue with Andrew was just golden.

He was great, but the screenplay didn't give him too much.

Both his character and Andrew needed more engagement in the story, especially Tobey. Tom was fighting his worst enemy, why didn't they highlight it and show how all this is important to him? He was way to chill.

Because of that it felt like if he didn't care that much or was high, and we all know why we love Tobey's Peter... BECAUSE HE CARE SO MUCH ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE.

They did… with the last fight. Tobey stopped/helped him from crossing the bad line.

Yeah, I know, but I need more of him being like that, not in the last scene, and again... There was no time to breath, everything happened so quickly. Tobey was great, the writing however...

It was fanservicey. A lot of things didn’t make sense but at the end, I think we kinda knew that going in. No one is going to convince me that this was some great story. It wasn’t. It was scattered and kind of a mess at times. That being said, I’m always in for the fan service.

I do agree that they could have done much more for Tobey/Andrew especially Tobey…but it’s like they had to hold them back a bit to ensure that Tom and his cast shined. Sucks for us but it is what is. Tobey impressed the hell out of me though because he put a ton of effort into this. I had no worries about Andrew because well…he’s the man. Tobey brought the heat though. The writing for them was suspect at times but dude, the writing across the board was questionable for everyone.

Ton of missed potential with them. So much more they could’ve done. Maybe a lil less “Ned being sad about not being accepted to College” and a little more “Tobey/Andrew and Tom” next time.

I do sorta wish they had injected a little more energy into Tobey. Being more mature is fine. But being more mature also means being comfortable and less restrained.

Overall i think it was good that all 3 had differences. I think it made for an interesting dynamic

I don’t like that the movie makes it seem like Tobey’s Spider-Man hasn’t fought any major villains since we last saw him in Spider-Man 3 fourteen years ago. I have to imagine Maguire Peter had to have faced off against villains beyond what we see him do on screen after the events SM3, and I would’ve liked for them to imply in dialogue he’s fought his own versions of Mysterio and Vulture on his world in the intervening years. Just to give a sense that his adventures as Spider-Man continued after SM3.

Yup, instead of mentioning Venom, he could talk about his Mysterio.

The fact that Tobey apparently didn’t fight his own version of Lizard for all these years since we last saw him in SM3 despite his world actually having its own version of Curt Connors is insane to me. How can these filmmakers pass up the opportunity to spark our imagination like that?

I think that's a missed opportunity as well. Could have discussed villains from the proposed SM4 and such. But I also get piggy backing off what we saw for the fan service.

I always assumed they didn't want to do another scientist gone bad villain after Ock and Goblin. At least not right away.

Loved seeing Tobey again! The legend himself back. It made me so happy. I'm a sucker for nostalgia, growing up with his version of Spider-Man and seeing him back... it was just awesome.

That's probably why they didn't go with Connors for Spider-Man 3 like they originally planned at one point. Or considered.

Tobey here radiated the warmth, mellowness and goodness of Cliff Robertson did in the original. He's become the man his Uncle would be proud of. Loved him.
He can be like an Uncle Ben to a young Spidey. Love it.
