No Way Home "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility" - Tobey Maguire Returns As RaimiVerse Spider-Man

The scene between Otto and Tobeys Peter was easily my favorite as well. Felt like I was talking to an old friend again, and hearing that elfman score made it even more impactful. Another one I loved I actually mentioned in the other thread, but I just love how Tobey smiled at Neds Lola haha. Like it was such an innocent and genuine reaction, and totally in line with his character.

Also his speech about uncle ben. Oh man that got me!

The fact that Tobey apparently didn’t fight his own version of Lizard for all these years since we last saw him in SM3 despite his world actually having its own version of Curt Connors is insane to me. How can these filmmakers pass up the opportunity to spark our imagination like that?
Because their roles were about fan service and nostalgia. Having them talk about villains that never happened in the movies would have confused the general audience.

I wish Doc Ock wasn't cured by the time we got to the statue of liberty, would have been cool to see the two have a rematch.

Not really. They were already talking about details in their life that happened off-screen. The audience isn’t dumb(well at least most of the aren’t) they could’ve just assumed some of the bad guys Tobey or Andrew would hypothetically mention that we hadn’t seen them face against in their last movies we saw them in were fought off screen. I think it’s a missed opportunity to spark people’s imagination of the events that these characters faced after their last movies in order to convey that they live on in their world after the credits roll.

How often have any MCU movies referenced off-screen villain fights? I feel like, for better or worse, the MCU has always been pretty minimalistic about shedding any details about off-screen superhero adventures.

This movie already had a lot going on. You want Tobey to say “I fought a lizard too” so the audience goes WTF instead of following along with the narrative on screen.

I don’t think audiences would care much either way. I just think it’s a little unlikely the last major villain Tobey would’ve fought was Venom who last saw him face off against fourteen years ago.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but was anyone a little skeptical Maguire wasn't going to end up fighting at the end? When I saw him in normal street clothes I was like oh nooo they Smallville'd him lol! I was glad he gave us a tease of his suit being underneath the shirt after that "cool youth pastor" joke lol.

Yes I thought the same! I immediately thought “oh no, he’s just wearing a t-shirt of the costume under his clothes. We’ll only see Raimi Spider-Man as CGI but luckily I was wrong.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one then! :funny:

Honestly if that Smallville scene had been fresh in my mind when I first saw Tobey in this movie, I probably would have jumped to the same conclusion. But luckily it wasn't, so I was spared that little heart attack.

On the topic of a potential Spider-Man 4, I still find it unlikely. But, if it happens, they NEED to nail it. Raimi has got to direct it, which I don't think would take much for him to be on board. I just wonder exactly what the story would be. Surely, it wouldn't be titled Spider-Man 4, would it? Either you, you know I'll be insanely hyped if it ends up happening. I don't want to get my hopes up, but the reaction to Tobeys return has been insane so far.

NWH happened. I mentioned this in the Garfield thread— anything is possible now.

Sony and Marvel would be foolish not to do a solo Raimi/Maguire film. The demand is there.

I agree. do believe they'll obviously want to get it right, so I'm just wondering when that would even happen?

I would love a Spider-Man 4 bringing back Raimi, Tobey, and Kirsten. The sequel could also serve as an introduction to Pete & MJ’s daughter, MayDay, helping set her up as Spider-Girl.

That would be incredible! Just the thought of it is getting me so excited haha, but I don't want to get my hopes up yet.

I’ll say this: A Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and Dunst coming back is infinitely more likely than WB ever spending half a billion dollars to make Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part 2 & 3.

Absolutely, and rightfully so. *fingers crossed!*

Love it. Or just straight up do a Mayday film and have Tobey and Kirsten in it.
I’d love at least one more movie with Tobey as the main Spider-Man but ending sets up Mayday discovering her powers setting her up for her own adventures. Have Tobey and Kirsten in supporting roles with Tobey serving as Mayday’s mentor

I'm not expecting it to happen, but a Spider-Man 4 with Tobey, Kristen and directed by Raimi would be ridiculously huge right now, especially coming off the success of this movie.

I definitely want to see more of Maguire going forward, but they will probably save it for something like Secret Wars along with possibly bringing Andrew back which would be great aswell.

It's crazy to me how much the younger generations still love the guy as Peter Parker/Spider-Man which didn't hit me until I saw the response, he got on opening night when he appeared.

As loud as the buzz and excitement was for Andrew, Tobey's reveal hit on a whole other level and I heard a bunch of kids and teens sitting next me respectfully calling him the real OG Spider-Man.

The Raimi era still carries a lot of weight for people even all these years later.

I don’t think Tobey would do it unless it was a major payday. He was definitely more of a supporting character in this one with no major stunt work or physically demanding work. And I’m sure he got paid a lot for it.

Plus he didn’t have to do any marketing for it which was also a plus for him. He seems to enjoy not being in the limelight anymore. The Marvel machine is very different today than when he made his movies, and promoting is just as time consuming and taxing as the role itself.
