Wizard Interview with Mei Melancon (Psylocke)

the thong didn't look right huh? well maybe cuz she has no BUTT!!! I think out of all the characters they butchered Psylocke. but i have to wait and see how she turns out in the movie. i think she's one of the hottest characters in the comics. I could see Angelina Jolie playing her but i guess they went with the more asian look.

I couldn't, I'd prefer someone attractive(and Jolie's ass is nothing special either, she's about the most overrated sex symbol to grace the planet).

They have butchered some of the characters through casting amongst other things, but this doesn't look to be one of them.

Nice!

what characters do you think they butchered based purely on casting.

Iceman and Rogue are horrible.
Ashmore's acting is ridiculously wooden, and Paquin isn't nearly vuluptious enough(or at all).

i'll give you Paquin - but i think they've crafted an interesting new version of the character. they've stripped Rogue down to what she was like when The Brotherhood discovered her in the comics, and are transforming her into the Rogue that we know and love in the comics slowly. her character arc thus far, having not seen X3 and not knowing what she does, has been interesting to see.

i like Ashmore as Iceman. he could be more of a smartass type, but oh well. and yes, at times, his acting is VERY wooden.

The way Rogue reacts to having to deal with her powers was ok, but she's done almost nothing at all to benefit the team throughout 2 entire films, I hated them just making her a student that's there for nothing but a circular puppy love story that goes nowhere and does nothing but eat up screen time.
If they wanted to gradually work up to her getting her powers that's fine, but she went literally nowhere in X1 and X2, she did nothing that any random character couldn't have done(though granted this isn't all Paquin's fault).

Nice to know that Psylocke will get to show off a little...I wonder how it's gonna look. I know the shadow powers will look tight, but the psy-blades have me wondering.

Her interview is really building my confidence in X3.

It indicates what I was hoping, that this would be the ensamble movie that I've been looking for where everyone gets a chance to shine rather than another episode of the Wolverine show guest starring the X-Men as Singer's films were.

all of that is too blame with the writers. her powers could've easily been used in an offensive manner in a combative situation, but for whatever reason, possibly budget, Singer and crew decided otherwise.

back on topic!

I admitted it wasn't all Anna's fault.

The new Wizard Movie speacial magazine had an interview with Mei/Psylocke...here is a paraphrased summary....

- She originally auditioned for the part of Callisto, but the role went to Dani Ramirez.
- Mei received a callback when they were seeking someone with martial arts experience
- * Mei described Psylocke as “strong arm” helping Magneto.
- *Mei said the movie is an introduction for the character. She said Psylocke will turn into shadows, merge with walls and use her psi-blades.
- Mei is familiar with the comic book character, and she did additional reading/research
- Due to time constraints, they could not die all of her hair purple.
- They tried the thong/ tights look, but it didn’t look right

** Direct quote: - “I am a bad girl. I’m basically a strong-arm helping [Magento and the Brotherhood of Mutants] do different things. It’s an introduction to my character. I turn into shadows and go through walls; and I also have psi-blades.”
Thanks LMV. Intersting stuff:up:

So Psylocke is been introduced? I thought this was the X-Men movie:o

if this is true we also have the post with the kid claiming to have seen the movie saying "I DONT RECALL SEEING PYLOCKE IN IT AT ALL!"????????

I think the psi-blades will be fine. For some reason when I think of them I think of Cyclops' beam. There was always some floaty energy around the main beam, I have a feeling it will look a little like that but cooler and in a purpleish pink hue.

^I picture it as lightsabers.

Thanks Vixen. That makes me a lot more optimistic for Psylocke.

At least Mei's got the attitude and seems to like the character.

:up: for shadow merging and :up: psi blades

oh and I wouldn't mind a look at their attempt of the thong / tights look.

I like Paquin. I don't think they crafted a new version of the character so much at all . . . like you noted, in X-Men she is very much like how she started out in the comics--conflicted, ostracized, and non-voluptuous . . . whereas in X2, it was obvious she had become more indpendent by not needing coddling via Wolverine and was on her own, as well as was easily becoming more attractive like her later comic book counterpart.

I don't like how her character appears to be rounding out in X3 though . . . it makes sense, but I would have liked to have seen her character become even closer to the more confident, stronger, "sexy" Rogue (which I felt she was going to do at the end of X2 after seeing her in the White House in uniform, but that I suppose went out of the window with the previous creative team and the introduction of a much needed "dramatic" storyline via "the Cure" since they seemed forced to round this out as a trilogy given the circumstances).

As far as Psylocke is concerned, I don't like the fact that they have randomly inserted a prominent member of the X-Men with the Brotherhood (when it could have just as easily been an equally cool bad guy), especially since it seems they've removed the majority of her history being that she's already Asian, etc. Psylocke deviates a fair amount from the source material, perhaps even moreso than a character like Rogue. I'm iffy about her look as well. Her role seems fairly minor in the film though, so we'll see how her treatment goes . . .

My question is this: How can a thong not work?

A half naked asian chick is always a plus.

well... this is how you make it work... show her getting ready to go into battle... and she is wearing a purple thong as she tries to get suited up! we will get it. or post the thong pics so we can see whyyyy it wouldnt have worked. dont we get to have a say?

Someone needs to do a manip

..no she isnt she's british. even when she switched bodies she was still british. you guys realize you can be asian and british at the same time right?? lol

So a soul has an accent?

Where did Japanese Psylocke learn english?

Of course she has a british accent. She has the same mind as the white Psylocke.

Mind you mean the brain cells? the brain cells changed into the British Psylocke?

I love Psylocke and I hope she has some memorable scenes! I think the reason why we hardly see any clips of her, other than the scene in the church next to Callisto and Arclight, is maybe b/c her scenes might be too spoilerish(just my hopes of course)!
