What's going on with DOOM? I heard it's not even close to Beta stage.
According to iD's developers via Glassdoor, the project's being rebooted every 4 months. Development on the single player's moved to the Void Engine (essentially id Tech 6), while the multiplayer will be outsourced. The architects behind the Void Engine all left for Oculus, including Carmack. They started with around 140 people when Rage 2 was cancelled to work in unison on Doom and that number's dipped to about 50. Besides the mostly negative reviews from past and present employees, there's about 15 job applications over the past month, and a few for senior positions as early as 6 days ago. Links to those applications and the complaints on Glassdoor.
Oh, and ZeniMax, id's publisher, is now suing Oculus for infringing on their trade secrets because Carmack helped them while he was still with id. Press release, for good measure. On the positive side, the last two reviews left on their profile claim id's corporate culture is finally being fixed. But who really knows.
