Continued rumblings:
Overall, a very good and action packed episode. It worked a great deal to try to redeem Cyclops' character about five seconds before the finale, and I do wonder if it is enough. But that's a question to answer three episodes from now. The show surely stumbled throughout the race, but is looking to have a strong finish here.
The reveal also places Frost in an interesting position. I am sure she will tell the Club that she was merely playing her role as mole well, but her job to reclaim Pheonix only required joining the X-Men and hanging around Cerebro until Jean popped up again; not being unable to "bare to see" Scott suffer, or work to aid his turmoil. While I am sure she knew he was the link to Jean, there was something more. It might be genuinely interesting if Frost even offered Cyclops a spot beside her at the Hellfire Club, claiming essentially, "I have been at that mansion for months, Scott. I have seen all of them abandon you, even your beloved mentor, to cheerlead around Wolverine, the great clawed hope. I was the only one who gave a fig about your feelings, and I wasn't even a real X-Man. That's Wolverine's school now. Why not join beside me here at the table, where you could be appreciated and not dismissed as number two, or left to rot alone to your pain." Of course Scott would refuse, and Frost would be in a bit of a position herself, but it would be interesting for that offer to be laid on the table. I don't expect it, because half the time this show is as subtle as a Royal Rumble match, but it would be interesting.
I'll also go on record and say that Frost is probably better for Scott, at least here. Unlike Jean, she's not in the least bit curious about the clawed biker. Also unlike Jean, she isn't passive by nature, and she can be as much of a ***** as Scott can often be a bastard. She would encourage him to be a much more efficient leader than Jean would. I sort of know how things will end for Frost, unfortunately, but I am still going along one episode at a time.
Craig Kyle, at least in some of his interviews for this show and his commentary for HULK VS. THOR, apparently seems to agree that "dark" women are more interesting than more sweet, noble ones for male protagonists. The type of guy who would rather see Batman with Catwoman than Vicky Vale or even Wonder Woman. There is a part of me that agrees, although it depends on the character, naturally, and the situation.
Another point is that the reason Mr. Sinister has resumed his hunt for Jean was because Cyclops convinced him that she was probably still alive, or at least her death was worth actually confirming, in episode 12. Basically that his own obsessive quest to find Jean is exactly what endangered her. Now of course Wolverine has made some mistakes in his leadership areas; instead of destroying Master Mold in it's infancy, he outsmarted himself and created a bigger, harder battle for the X-Men later on (as well as leading to the creation of Wolver-Sentinels in the future). His past brought ninja to the Mansion grounds. Wolverine's quest for answers got Weapon X rumbling again, which endangered Christy Nord. But all of these are usually portrayed as less "reckless" or selfish as Scott's obsession with Jean. I am curious how others feel about this point.
As much as I was bemused by the lack of airbags for X-Men owned cars, I was also entertained by the idea of no at the hospital wondering why a woman without memories would be wearing a symbol of the X-Men around her neck. That's kind of like a hospital caring for a woman with a necklace that has an iconic "S" on it in Metropolis and no one guessing, "hey, this is connected to Superman!" until things go wrong.
Also, being able to be able to fight in those high heel boots of Frost's has to be some sort of superpower, from how some women have described walking in heels to me.
