Wolverine filming update/news.

IMDB confirms the hairstyling award. In total, X1 won 11 movie awards, while X2 and X3 got four awards each.

You go ahead and believe she just happened to be on the other side of the world and Singer just happened to bump into her. :cwink:

I've very good reason to believe Singer wanted Shawn, Famke and Jackman. Partly because he had worked with them already, partly because things had got nasty between him and Fox.

hehehe..when you think of how Fox had marsden marginalized in the script because of the SR role, imagine if this has had happened.
gonna give Jansen and Jackman no real role in a movie? i doubt it.
Might have put it on hold. IMO, Fox acted like a bunch of brats over the whole thing anyway. looking at the money that the souless turd we did get made, imagine if it had solid rather than so so word of mouth....

Queenstown, 3rd February 2008

Here's an update on this from the ones that posted the picture:

Updated: We've had so many people ask about this, thought it best to clarify. Hugh is NOT in his Wolverine leathers, he and 4 others of the crew, including Liev Schreiber, were taking in the sights of Queenstown on Harley Davidson Motorcycles. We were there when they all drove off on them after their Shotover Jet trip.

Hugh's into gear as Wolverine
February 19, 2008 12:00am

WE'VE heard of a wolf in sheep's clothing, but Hugh Jackman looks more like a Wolverine in truckie's clothing in the first photo released from his latest X-Men flick.

Looking more menacing than ever, the Aussiewood actor shows off his buff bod in the character's trademark white singlet in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Jackman, who is also one of the prequel's producers, returns home later this week and continues filming in Sydney next week.

"It has been fun to put the claws back on," he said.

"We've had an amazing time shooting in gorgeous New Zealand and we're excited to get back to Sydney to shoot the rest of the film."

During his time on the south island, Jackman also took time out to enjoy the hospitality of his actor pal Sam Neill, who treated him to a vertical tasting of his Two Paddock wines at his Earnscleugh vineyard.

Well, according to the writers, Fox didn't even want the Dark Phoenix story, so they might have marginalized Janssen as well.

Sounds like they are back in Sydney filming.

Naomi Watts' boy makes a Sydney splash

He was born in Los Angeles, but Naomi Watts' son Alexander Pete Schreiber was finally christened a Bondi baby yesterday.

Less than 24 hours after arriving back in her hometown, yummy mummy Watts clearly couldn't wait to introduce seven-month-old Alexander to Sydney's famous strip of sand.

Despite the blustery conditions and grey sky, the Hollywood star was the picture perfect image of a contented mother as she cuddled and kissed her son and dipped his little feet in the ocean.

While local paparazzi had a field day capturing the intimate scene, Watts didn't waste the opportunity to record her son's first Aussie beach outing for the family photo album - posing for shots as a woman, presumed to be a nanny, snapped away.

The happy excursion followed a morning of property viewing for the acclaimed actress, who has relocated her family to Sydney for several months in a bid to incorporate the Australian lifestyle and culture into Alexander's childhood.

Watts, whose partner Liev Schreiber flew into Sydney from the Wolverine set in New Zealand late yesterday, viewed several properties in Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi.

Leaving Alexander with the nanny, Watts then headed to Darlinghurst cafe Bills, where she was reunited with her closest gal pal, Nicole Kidman.
The former North Shore schoolfriends drove around the city before returning to Watts' city hotel for an overdue catch up over lunch, with Kidman not emerging until three hours later.

Well, according to the writers, Fox didn't even want the Dark Phoenix story, so they might have marginalized Janssen as well.

If Janssen had joined the SR project, Fox would no doubt have proceeded with an X3 without Phoenix and without any Cyclops at all. The cure story and Magneto's war could still happen. But they'd never let Jackman go. Why do you think he got producer credits for X3, a massive salary and the promise of a spinoff?

Singer seems done with X-Men. He passed on directing the Wolverine spinoff - and Wolverine was his favourite. Shame that it had all had to get so messy and political.

I thought X3 turned out pretty well considering the troubled production with Singer leaving, Marsden leaving, Vaughn leaving, the first cinematographer Philip Rousselot leaving and Ratner joining with eight weeks before filming started rather than the eight MONTHS he should have had.

I bumped into a guy from my office in my local comicbook/sci-fi store - I hadn't realised he was a sci-fi/superhero enthusiast and we got chatting, and even the cashier joined in. This guy from work loved X3, he loved Superman Returns and he loved Spider-Man 3. He had an innocent enjoyment of them all, and it was so refreshing. It was also obvious that he doesn't come online on to obsessional sites like this, and he confirmed that. If ever I start to get angry or obsessed, I watch the movies again and re-familiarlse myself with them - and the anger/negativity usually evaporates. Despite not really liking Spider-Man 3 when it was released at the cinema, I bought the DVD (it was cheap in a supermarket!) and watched it again last night and ended up loving it. I surprised myself.

I think a lot of it is getting into the right state of mind for watching one of these films. I enjoyed X3 both times I saw it in the theatre even though when I sit back and think about it I can see the flaws.

And yes, they were already committed to Jackman - he was the first signed and in theory he had director and script approval. I say "in theory" because the choice was probably between Ratner and shelving the movie.

From the sound guy with the blog dated Feb. 19:

The main unit is now in the process of shipping its-self back to Sydney for a few months. 2nd Unit remains on the south island shooting the jaw-dropping effects sequences that will surely astound audiences in May 2009.

Yeah, usually when there's a genuine love for something untainted by cynics, I'll leave them alone. it reminds how the internet can corrupt your way of thinking sometimes.

If I remember correctly, that post had some information about witnessing a scene being filmed and some details about the scene. I'm thinking certain powers that be didn't want that much information shared on the boards.

Seeing as though he mentioned that he made the pies, it probably narrows it down to a few people.

We are being watched

(But I assumed that anyway :))

She’s the closest thing to the lead actress of X-Men Origins: Wolverine – stunt double Kate Newman of Queenstown.

Newman’s apparently a dead ringer.

The actress hasn’t been officially named yet and Newman is sworn to secrecy about who she’s doubling for even though she worked alongside her for a month.

However, the 21-year-old Queenstown Gym receptionist reveals plenty of titbits from her four weeks on the set of the big-budget blockbuster starring Aussie heart-throb Hugh Jackman.

Newman says the actress she doubled is an up-and-coming twenty-something Hollywood star and a “really nice girl”.

“She’s not high-maintenance like you’d expect a Hollywood actress to be.”

Jackman’s a “typical Aussie bloke” who’s “100 per cent” focused on set but cracks jokes off it.

She even got to share the make-up trailer with him at one point.

“Usually actors have their own trailers, but there was a main make-up trailer and a main costume trailer that everyone shared.

“For any guy make-up isn’t the most fun thing to have done, but he [Jackman] was just patient and sat there the whole time and chatted with the ladies.”

The leads were “whisked away” once a scene was shot.

Newman got a ride to Dunedin in Jackman’s plush leather interior, grey four-wheel-drive with his double. Jackman took a helicopter instead.

She had accommodation at Otago University while in Dunedin, but the actors and production staff were always put up in hotels.

Newman was chosen by movie production staff through local agency Ican Modelling.

She auditioned in mid-January and was accepted on the spot because of similarities to the Hollywood hotshot.

The next day, after getting her lighter-coloured hair dyed brown to match the actress, she was whisked away to the set for a practice scene.

“I had to run up to where a bunch of famous people were, with dripping-wet hair. I was very nervous.”

Mostly she was filmed for stand-in scenes, which give actors and camera operators an idea of how to shoot. She also did minor stunt work.

Earning a “high four-figure sum” for the role, she worked up to 14 hours a day and juggled it with her full-time gym job.

Her “scariest” task was to drive an old two-wheel-drive ute along narrow gravel roads at about 80kmh.

“Every time you see that character in a car, that’s actually me.”

She also had the “unexpected” job of kissing Jackman’s double. “Definitely no tongue involved,” she adds.

Scenes were shot in Glenorchy, Shotover Canyon and Dunedin, finishing last week.

She says cast and crew may have to return to Queenstown for more filming – but it’s not official.

Newman may also be flown to Sydney for more scenes to be shot at Fox Studios.

Ican boss Tracy Cameron says a couple of other locals were signed up as stand-in doubles. About six locals were also used as extras in Dunedin.

Newman – who’s had some modelling and TV experience – couldn’t believe her luck.

“I’m still coming to terms with it. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing.”

February already - time sure flies when we're having fun!!!
Greetings from the beautiful warm South --

2008 for us has started off with a hiss and a roar - 2 movies - Underworld 3 started in Auckland straight after New Year, and Wolverine underway a couple of weeks later, shooting in Dunedin and Queenstown. Add our usual seasonal TV Commercials, Weddings, Functions etc., and its probably not good time for any of us to think about having a holiday!! But, its all going well - and everyone is happy!

The weather continues to be fantastic - its been a long while since Central Otago/Southern Lakes have had such a long hot summer!! Both Queenstown and Wanaka are still very busy, once the schools are back, the holidaymakers and tourists of the "non-family" variety are out and about enjoying our beautiful surroundings.

Live love eat

Take care,
Maureen

Dull! Dull! Dull! The Gluc appears to be on a go-slow this week — has she let her string of easy wins over the Bridge go to her head? — with little more than a catalogue of celebrity sightings. So NAOMI WATTS and husband LIEV SCHREIBER bought an electric fan at the Warehouse in Dunedin. So %&*#$ what! Celebrities have to be somewhere, and sometimes they get hot — just like the rest of us! However the Gluc seems to be amazed that Watts, Schreiber and HUGH JACKMAN — who are all down south to make a movie — might actually spend some of their time being, crikey, human beings. But oh no, Jackman’s every move is an apparent amazement to our Rach: There he is at the gym! There he is going to a movie! Hell’s bells, there he is eating — yes eating! — in a restaurant! Memo to the Gluc: celebrity sightings are **** boring unless said celebrity is covered in puke and lying in the gutter, is caught in a ménage, is spotted snorting white powder, is…

Rumor : Dominic Monaghan is Blackwing

Il y a une vie après LOST. Notre ami Charlie décédé en fin de saison 3 (mais possible retour dans le show on ne sait jamais), reviendra au cinéma dans... X-Men Origins : Wolverine !

FOR SYDNEY FANS

Does anyone have any confirmation in the tidbit of news that they'll be filming at Glebe Point park friday 29th Feb? It's in the Gambit bit of news on the main site.

Picture with the link.

Wolverine filming on Cockatoo Island

One of Moviehole's regular readers, and a popular avatar in the forums, sends in this bit about some filming of "Wolverine" in his neck of the woods.

Clint, Just a bit of info re WOLVERINE. I work on Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour. For your information, they are filming there over the next few months. Currently building sets etc. Lots of night shooting coming up apparentely. At this stage due to finish there in May. If you use this, please don\'t use my name. Cheers

Thanks, er, um, you!

Cockatoo Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour. It's one of Sydney's great places to visit, big, surprising, entertaining. Located at the junction of the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, Cockatoo Island is a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol. It is also the site of one of Australia's biggest shipyards during the twentieth century.

The first of its two dry docks was built by convicts and was completed in 1857. The island's maritime industrial activity ceased in 1992.

Today Cockatoo Island retains many remnants of its past. Its prison buildings have been nominated for World Heritage listing, along with other convict sites around Australia. Large workshops, slipways, wharves, residences and other buildings retain the texture of the island's industrial past.

Always a Sydney landmark, Cockatoo Island commands magnificent views of Sydney Harbour. A regular ferry service to the island allows visitors to explore this intriguing place at their leisure. The island boasts a campground and a cafe. Soon a bar is expected to open. Regular exhibitions and art installations are a feature of the island.

So, it sounds like a mutant prison will feature in this movie....

It would be good to hear again from Gavin Hood. After all the various cast announcement flying at us from various directions, I'd like to hear how the director is forging a coherent vision for the movie and what if anything has changed since he came on board. Give us a great movie Mr Hood!

DON'T panic if you see a buff hairy bloke with razor-sharp blades prowling around the inner west this week - it could be Hugh Jackman, reprising his hugely successful role as Wolverine.

Filming for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, will head to Glebe on Friday, where scenes will be shot overnight.

But fans, be warned, there will be plenty of security in place to ensure filming in Federal Park does not get disrupted by onlookers.

Filming has been moved to Sydney after it began in New Zealand earlier this month.

Naomi Watts's partner Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Danny Huston, Lynn Collins, Taylor Kitsch and the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am have joined the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a spin-off from the highly successful X-Men movies.

Producer John Palermo, who is also Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness's partner in their production company, Seed Productions, said: "We have been dying to tell this particular story for some time.

"It's thrilling to get to explore the character of Wolverine in more detail, as well as bring in mutants the fans haven't seen in the previous X-Men films."

Seed Productions is pairing with 20th Century Fox for Wolverine.

Filming will later move to New Orleans.
