This only became an issue when THOR did its "magic is our science" thing.
Audiences have generally never, before or since that, had issues with magic as a concept.
I don't understand how fanboys, many of whom have read and seen comics where this blending of worlds and characters and concepts work, have issues with it either.
Remember the asinine "How would Batman fit in a world of other superheroes" discussions when the Nolan films were being made? Often from people who had been reading Justice League and DC Comics for YEARS.
