BvS Wonder Woman's Role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Part 1

We already know that DC won't be shying away from the mystical aspects of these stories, so I don't know why people still believe that Wonder Woman is Kryptonian.

Yeah when they were doing her character breakdown in the special I never got the feeling they were trying to downplay her mystical origins.

I think it's easy to assume, or makes logical sense that a female alien, landing on Earth, 18,000 years ago, with super strength and technology far superior than what is already there, could be seen as a god or divine being. It wouldn't be too hard to assume her descendants could be Atlantians or Amazonian.

But - whilst that looks logical, it's not cannon and would be seen as 'lazy' in a universe building type of way, if that makes sense - not trying to make the original character origins work.

So whilst it wouldn't surprise me, if they went this route (and i honestly wouldn't mind), i doubt they would and i would hope they didn't and hope they felt the respect was deserved to stick to source material and flesh out their stories.

I think a few people can appreciate that theory at least?

I hope WW's presence is important and makes impact ... essential to the story. Unlike say a Marvel cameo. But I also don't want her to distract from the actual draw of the movie which is Batman and Superman fighting as well as sharing the screen for the first time ever.

Charles Roven already stated that Zeus is her father so I don't know why people keep running with the Kryptonian thing.

Do we know if she can fly in the DC Film Universe?

We know for a fact she can not. She confirmed that she does jump incredible heights though.

Hopefully not on an invisible plane :whatever: hopefully that gets cut the way they ignored Superman's breathe power. Some things really are just too goofy for translation to real world, big screen scenarios.

Thanks! Just wasn't sure. I'm happy she can jump incredible heights, though I would love for her to be able to fly (without the use of an invisible plane)

The Avengers and Thor: The Dark World had invisible ships. Legends of Tomorrow recently as well.

If you think of the invisible jet the way it was done on Superfriends and the Carter show then of course THAT is dumb execution of the SFX for the jet, but seriously folks... The idea of a stealth craft that is cloaked from all visual and sensory scanning is a bridge too far in a world of Power Rings and Batmobiles? No one is talking about a jet that is invisible... EXCEPT for the body of Wonder Woman that we can see piloting. That would be just silly, but that is not what the jet has been for a very long time now.

People that think like this are the bane of comic book movies. Your line of thinking would've probably never let Robin set foot in the DCEU

An invisible plane is ****ing badass and practical as hell. In fact, the invisible plane can even serve as the javelin

So Diana is a retired legend living in mans world as a humanitarian but only dons her costume again when the worlds in danger like from Doomsday.

The problem with an invisible jet would be one of “internal consistency.” I.e., if Themiscyra is depicted as romantically idyllic and pre-technological (with, say, toga-clad maidens using stone tools to grind wheat into flour), then the presence of a futuristic stealth aircraft would raise questions. No doubt, some fanciful exposition could answer such questions. But is the narrative benefit worth the trouble? Originally, the jet was a practical conceit: it allowed WW to get from A to B in a convenient time. But if the current story doesn’t require long-distance travel (or if the logistics are somehow a non-issue - WW, apparently, uses Turkish Airlines :word:) then there’s no real need for a personal jet of any kind.

Re: Invisible jet

I want to see it. Ideally, the invisible jet would have been a repaired and upgraded version of Steve Trevor's jet which crashed on Themyscira. But, they don't seem to be going with that origin since Trevor first appears in WW1.

At this stage, we don't know enough about the Amazons to know if an invisible jet would be feasible. But, with over 5,000 years of development by immortals, I don't think a stealth jet would be too odd, especially if the Amazons have been following technological developments in man's world at least until WW1.

Or if WW is based more in a mystical background, then why not use an old jet and magically enhance it?

The lasso for example, isn't technologically based, right (please no!)?

I wonder where Diana was during the Black Zero event. I'm sure we will get an answer to that either in BvS or the WW film...

Her jet might be invisible because of a magic. Maybe it's so invisible that we won't see on it big screen. :oldrazz:

Well we now know that she has basically been retired for a while right?

maybe that's because she's not pure Kryptonian? She could be several generations from the one who originated the race here. Not saying that it is what they are doing with this film universe but you can't rule it out just yet.

And who said the prequel comic is not canon? The scout ship was found just where and how the comic left it. The comic showed that someone survived.

I hated "Kryptonian" Amazons in 2013 and I hate it even more in 2016. Olympus being aliens is a terrible idea. Kara willfully going into the phantom zone for 20,000 years or getting frozen like Steve Rogers or anything really would be better than her being the Matriarch of the Amazons or Atlanteans.

I hope even moreso that Aquaman's presence doesn't feel forced as well.
