Worst Movie-Based Games

And finally, 'X-Men: The Official Game'. I love how they call this one "The Official Game", really says a lot. And it's funny that pretty much all of the past 'X-Men' games rocked and didn't even bother to call themselves "Official" to the franchise. Why do you play only as three characters in this game? Well, because it's 'X-Men'... What a bundle of bullspit! Three characters?! You've got to be kidding me. It would've been nicer if those three characters were smaller (minor) characters from the movies, like: Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Collossus, or others, in-order to give us more background on them with coming into the third film. But no! Getting rid of Nightcrawler in the third film was bull----, seriously. He was one of my favourite characters from the second movie. However, I'm going to guess that it was on the actor's (Alan Cumming) behalf not to star in the film. Probably not because of the script, but because of the hours he would have to yet again spend in the make-up chair. If was nice to see that cleared up with this game, but... come on. That seems to have been their only real plan with the release of this game (as the Nightcrawler missions are undeniably the best of the bunch) with explaining why he wasn't there in the third film. But, if that was the case, why didn't you just make this a blistering Nightcrawler game? I think it's because they want Wolverine to have everything and anything to do with the 'X-Men' series from now until forever. It's ridiculous.
I actually liked this game.

I actually liked this game.
I enjoyed the boss battles and some of the Nightcrawler missions. But everything else was just mediocre getting to 'em. I wish that it was one of those "Pick Your Stage/Character" games. Not back-and-forth between three. I can see how some may have enjoyed it, but I (for one) didn't.

Ghostbusters for the Atari 2600 was awful. Right up there with E.T. in terms of suckitude.

X-Men: The Official Game had a good concept really. Wolverine (hack & slash) Nightcrawler (Stealth, some beat 'em up) and Iceman (I don't know lol). More development time (that's what they always say, lol), and this could've been a good game.

I too enjoyed some of the missions though; why the hell does Kurt & Iceman regenerate health in this game? I think they did.

The Scooby Doo movie game for Gameboy Advance was HORRIBLE{and people say the movie was bad...}.

Oh, my God. There's another one I missed. I played this for the PS2 (so I'm not really sure of how it plays out on other consoles), and it sucks... Gotta love the clay-mation cutscenes, just fantastic. Usually in-game graphics are worse than cutscene graphics, but not with this game. The web-swinging was a huge disappointment, when compared to 'Spider-Man 2'. You'd expect a game like this (right off the bat) to be an improvement over the last installment, which was a pretty good game. But, not with this game. It's pretty much just a great leap backwards in-terms of what the last game did which made this mediocre game seem to be even further more mediocre.
The PS3 version is not much better sadly.

Spoony has done a few reviews of horrible movie based games (many are old pc games) that put most of what was mentioned already to shame (with the exception of e.t.).
Not sure if these full motion video "games" really count, but wow do they look awful.

edited again to warn that he does use some vulgar language in his reviews.

Lol, that Power Rangers game looks horrible.

I guess you can add Terminator Salvation to the list.

Batman Forever for the Genesis(and others, but Genesis is the one I played). Terrible digitized actors, fighting/plataform gameplay so broken that it makes MK: Mythologies look like Super Mario World, and the most goddamn annoying music ever. I'm sure it's not the worst Batman game out there, but it's possibly the worst based on one of the movies. Here, check it out for yourselves.

You had Batgadgets, but you could only used them with Street Fighter-like motions of the control. What where they thinking...

Bonus round: While Spider-man "the first movie's game" wasn't a complete waste, they had the gall to change Osborne's dying words from "Don't tell Harry" to "Tell Harry I'm sorry..." I felt that line was kind of important to the franchise, but hey, I'm not some fancy story guy at Treyarch, so what do I know?

Batman Forever was definitely rubbish. It took me several years to discover how to go down those little holes; if I remember correctly, you pressed down+L on the SNES version. Speaking of which, the SNES version featured LOADING TIMES; yes, loading times on a cartridge title! And only through that episode of Fat Mann Judgeth did I discover how to use the 'special moves.'

Also, Batman & Robin. This game, although based on the worst Batman movie ever, had potential to be a decent Batman game thanks to the implementation of sandbox gameplay. Sadly, they mucked it up with ass controls, such as making it difficult to ward off ambushes when your character turns like a tank a la the original Tomb Raider titles. The controls are made even worse because somebody thought it was a good idea to have you manually switch between combat and 'investigating' controls.

Lesson: never trust Acclaim with your properties.

, 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine(PS2)',

'Wolverine'... This is what you get when the developers are a bunch of lazy butt-mongers. The game for the PS3 and 360 are both pretty good, damn good actually, but the PS2 version is just terrible. Bad graphics and bad "hack and slash" gameplay give you a bore of an experience with this one.

I disagree
while its no where near as good as the xbox360/ps3 version
its a hell of alot better than wolverine's revenge and the X-men the official game

it's a overall good game, but it should be a bit longer (finished in 5 hours) and needs to have a more difficult A.I level

I can see where you're coming from. I kinda liked it. But one thing that made me a little more biased against it is that the 'PS3'/'360' versions are so much better. When I rented it for the 'PS2', I knew that it wouldn't have the same graphical level as the 'PS3'/'360' versions. But I was expecting something simular. What I got instead was basically an entirely new game with poor graphics and generic/rehashed gameplay. I'm sorry, but that game was just one of those cases where I was more po'd at what I got, opposed to what it actually delivered.

I was alittle pissed too i must admit

i was hoping for something more than just a "refight the blob" Extra, unlockable costumes ? alt character skins maybe, a replay levels option perhaps

and the hard difficulty was just as easy as the normal difficulty, i can see where your coming from though, it does get repetitive after awhile

the voice actors/one-liners for gambit and zero were god awful too

Exactly:o

Oh yeah, Superman Returns. The final boss was a frakking tornado.

And while techically it's not based on any of the movies, let's not forget Superman 64...

Oh, God...:o

I don't think I need to go into details. But I have that game. And I can't even get past the first level. But really, I don't care. Once I saw that you immediately had to start off by "flying through rings", let alone the controls, that was pretty much the end for me. I don't have a lot of patience for crap-bad/frustrating games, don't wanna start chuckin' controllers at the screen.

Terminator Salvation has pushed me to my limits with loading times and unbelievable "replenish when you kill enemies not when you hide behind cover" health system. I am glad it is over and I will never touch it again

I really thought Superman Returns was gonna be good. Saw some good gameplay vids before the release and then it got delayed and I again thought "maybe they're gonna polish it more".

Thank goodness for reviews; stayed away from it!

Oh, my God. It's really like that?... Kinda reminds me of what I hated about 'GTA3', where if you ever wanted to make some quick loads of cash, you'd just simply hop into a tank or some crap like that and just blow some ---- up. I think I made must of my millions from that game just by doing that (which made me so disappointed when I completed the last mission because I believe you only receive something like $1,000,000, a lot of zeros, but come on).

You know, through the awful reviews, I'm actually kinda temped to play it... But honestly, that's only because there has yet to be a great 'Superman' game. In my opinion, the closest we got to something being simular to a 'Superman' video game was either 'Spider-Man 2' or 'The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction'. 'TIH:UD' especially, that may always stand as my favourite superhero game for a next-gen console. And it's right up there with 'Spider-Man' for the PS1.

Superman returns blows........ sadly i own the game

Only completed the game once

its like fly a couple of cm's then "oh no *insert villian type* Are destroying the city*

no wonder supes left earth for 5 years
