Evaluation

I have now been able to finish the whole project and I have achieved alot more than I thought I would during this time. It hasn't been an easy ride but I have learned far more than I thought that I would. I have also been able to discover certain aspects of my own abilities which could help me within the future and maybe even possibly help the direction of my own career.

The product that I am going to evaluate is the film trailer and promotion pack that we had to create to sell the film to a specific audience. The audience that we were given was one the whole class was familiar with and that is our own demographic. (Mid teens to early twenties)
This made the project alot easier because we knew more what the demographic would want to see and also how to promote it to people that are very much like myself.

When we first started this whole project, of creating a film trailer and putting together a press release, I was really excited and it has been the project that I have been wanting to do for the whole year. I am very interested in film and it is hopefully what I would like to do when I am older, so having the chance to put together a film trailer with three other students really gave me some enthusiasm to really create something satisfying, to myself and to those who watch it as well.

As a group me, Oludare, Tim and James worked very well and were able to work together to a satisfying level without distracting each other from our own duties. Within the group, it was decided that I would direct the whole trailer as well as starring in it. The reason why the rest of the group wanted me to do this is because I had the main vision of what the film would be about, which is happiness. The main idea behind the theme of happiness and someone's journey to find it comes from my own self experiences. In this life, sometimes I feel it is hard to satisfy yourself as well as others and also trying to be the best person you can be. This has also been the case whilst creating this project. It hasn't always been an easy task because I wanted to make sure that the rest of the group were happy with the film's theme and also their roles as crew members. Thankfully each member of the group has made me feel welcome and because of our unity and co-operation I feel that we have created the best piece that we could have.

Looking back at these last six weeks, I am now able to identify some of my strengths in this subject but most importantly I am also able to outline my weaknesses. By knowing my weaknesses I know that if I was ever was to take on a subject like this again, I will make sure that I focus on some of my weaknesses so that I am able to create an even stronger piece.

I found that the strengths that I did have on this project, is that I had a lot of self motivation and was able to keep on track and on schedule through out the whole 6 weeks. I found that as the director, I was able to control the situations that we were in, including dealing with actors and actresses, technical difficulties with the cameras and editing software and also trying to create the perfect shot. Another of my strengths was that I was able to have a go at all the different roles at some point or another. I helped to write the script and storyboard, for some of the scenes that we shot, I stood behind the camera and made sure that everything was looking as good as it could be and I also helped with lighting and sound. I also find that my main strength is that I am able to maintain a constant level of enthusiasm and also skill for each role. I also know that when you start to become less serious about the whole project, even though it was fun to make jokes and also made mistakes which we were able to laugh at, we maintained a proffessionalism that made us able to carry on and make sure that each shot was satisfying enough before we moved on to the next shot.

As for weaknesses, I find that one of my main weaknesses is that I felt like I was taking over other people's work and at times felt like I was doing most of the work. I don't mind doing this but as a team we have to spread out the work equally and make sure that everyone has something to be getting on with and at times I felt like I was taking over other people's responsibilities. One of my other weaknesses is that I give up if certain things start to stress me out. For Example, the storyboard was very hard to draw because I'm not a very good drawer and also at the time it was hard for me to invision what I could see on the movie trailer. Although, in the end, I was still able to finish the task and create a satisfying movie trailer by following the storyboard.

The opportunities that making this film trailer has given me the chance to do is to create my own personal piece using my own characters and situations to tell a story. This has been one of the most satisfying parts of the project, because I only had to follow a guideline but I was allowed to go wild and create what I hope is an original trailer that will spark interest amongst the general public.

Now on to how satisfyed I am with the trailer and what I would possibly do next time if I had the chance to make something like this again.
I am very pleased with how the trailer has turned out and it has made me feel that maybe I should explore and experiment in making more films and trailers as an own personal hobbie. Perhaps then I could become better at what I do and also look towards finding a career in this business. Having said that, there are still some negative things to say about the project. I feel that we should have taken our time more carefully whilst making this film because we have had our fair share of problems to over come. One of the things that I would like to change about the movie is the smoothness of some of the shots. We found ourselves not using a tripod for some of the scenes that we had to shoot because we felt it took alot more time to keep adjusting the tripod for each shot and sequence that we were to film. This is definetely shown in some of the shots and I feel that the unsmooth way that the camera is being used may detract the audience, because in some parts it makes the production seem alot more amateur.

Overall, I feel that we have made a very satisfying product that hopefully the demographic that we are aiming towards will want to see the film when they see the trailer'/advertisements. If I had to make this trailer again, I would take more time on the pre-production side and make sure that all paper work is filled out before production started. Although alot of the paperwork was done, we still felt that it was starting to pile up and we could have made sure we all had something to finish before production started. Also, I would like to make sure I have improved with writing and drawing storyboards. It was a long process which I hope in the future will be a short and painless one, but I do not regret anything that we accomplished and did. We didn't make the perfect product, but no-one and nothing is perfect. I feel that if I was to make this trailer again, I would focus on taking my time whilst filming so that each shot is made with perfection.

some of the language is a bit too informal, but I didnt read it all.Maybe later.
