i personally would put up a fence and just say you and your wife like some private time and then just invite them over when YOU want .. i believe in being kind but not being ran over by people esp. those you havent even met yet

My wife and i just recently bought a house and we started moving our stuff over the weekend but since we are in our current house until the end of July we are taking our time moving everything over. The house has a very large back yard which pretty much is open to the neighbors back yard. Our yard has a nice big garden in it an a fire pit near the garden. When we were looking at the house before deciding to buy it i noticed that the garden was full of plants and i assumed it was the owners plants so i didnt ask anything about it.

Well yesterday evening i was out putting together our patio set and i see the neighbor in the back walk over into our garden and start doing work in it. Even though i didnt know what he was doing in there it didnt really bother me cause we arent gardeners and i was planning on removing the garden anyways so i didnt say anything to him. About two hours later i look out our back bay window and i see the neighbor couple and two other friends around a roaring fire in our fire pit. I went out there to kind of greet them and see what was up. Turns out that the previous home owners and the neighbors were really good friends so the neighbors pretty much considered the backyards to be one big one.

So now im faced with the dilema of continuing this relationship with the neighbors or telling them that i dont want them to just do stuff in our garden and light bonfires in our yard.

What would you guys do in situations like this? I kind of muttered to my wife that i was gonna put up a fence but she gave me a bad look...

Start by throwing bricks with notes written, "Move or you die."

If that doesn't work, cut the phone lines and cable lines.

Than move onto slowly driving in front of his place, wait until he looks out his window and then drive away.

If that doesn't work, move onto killing his dog and other animals.

Kill his children with a note saying, "I warned you and this will be your last warning."

If he hasn't moved by now, kill him and your problem is solved.

I guess its not that big of a deal for them to use our fire pit just as long as they dont make a mess and respect our privacy when we have family over to not just come over and light up a bonfire.

As far as the garden goes im not sure what to tell them. They got all kinds of stuff in there. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, rasberry bushes.
I wanna rip that stuff out and put sod over it so i have a nice clean yard.
Guess ill just inform them of my intentions with the yard.

I just thought it odd that the neighbors would be in our yard. After the inital shock of it and him explaining the situation to me i wasnt upset about it.

I've just had to deal with bad neighbors before and i just didnt want to have to deal with it again. At our last house the neighbors son tried to break into my daughters bedroom window at 4am while she was asleep in there. Which is now why we have the husky/lab mix and i keep my shotgun and shells close at hand. The little punk got away with a simple attempted break in.

No, actually our yard is pretty shaded. We have two huge fricken trees on each end of the yard but the garden area is just out of reach of the shade near the property line so it's not always shaded.

Since he never actually got into her room they couldnt do much more. When i actually went flying out the backdoor to confront him he was trying to pull the window sill off my daughters bedroom window. I saw him run into the neighbors house and i told my wife to call the cops while i loaded my gun.

I dunno if any of you know what it feels like but i was ready to shoot someone that night.

I would do the same to protect something that precious.

I'd tell them that you don't want them using the firepit. Too much liability there for people you don't know.

And then I'd tell them that they could finish of the growing season with the garden, but you won't be letting them use it from then on. That way you're not being a complete dick to them.

These kinds of things are the reason why I bought 10 acres out in the middle of nowhere. The only neighbor I have within a 2 miles is my dad.
