****ing Bendis. :cmad:

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. That's gold.

But to answer the question, Brian Hitch left the book, so it's coming out much more often than it did when he was on art detail. True, the art sucks now, and it's still not on time, but it's still out closer to it's supposed schedule than ever before.

Also, Loeb is writing the characters as if he never read Millar's run on the title. And Joe Mad is drawing as if he's never seen Hitch's designs.

It's a travesty, is what it is. There are absolutely no redeeming aspects to this pile of ****. None. Calling it "Ultimates" is just adding insult to injury.

What issue is this series up to?

Seems like #3 came out years ago.

I heard Wanda and Pietro are ****ing now.

Im Ultimates Yep..They are.

I mean, it kind of grossed me out, but lets be real here....Wanda and Pietro even in 616 have always been kind of....close...

I kinda preferred it when they were just flirting creepily in U 1&2

Not when your writing jumps from somewhat gaudy to straight juvenile.

I'm not a big fan of Ultimates to begin with, but Loeb and Mad have made Ultimates 3 atrocious. What's up with Loeb here and on Hulk? Maybe it's because I haven't been reading comics as long or as often as others, but I haven't seen writing this bad since McFarlane penned the first issues of Spawn. Plus, what's Mad doing? I could probably stomach his art style, but he's drawing everyone like they're classic Marvel characters.

Unless this becomes amazing in the fourth issue, I'm very done both with Ultimates 3 and Hulk. Loeb needs to take a break until he's back to writing at the quality of his "color" one-shots.

Loeb's been in a funk the last couple of years. Completely understandable. Really, what he needs to do is A) Stick to the touchy feel-y character crap (his specialty, really), and B) Do more with Tim Sale. He never sucks with Tim Sale.

Could he be burnt out on comics work?

I just can't believe Marvel didnt learn it's lesson after Ultimates 2.

I mean that book probably Killed Ultimate Marvel single handidly.

Especially when it is treated as the flagship event and had the rest of Ultimate continuity tied into its extreme delays.

I wanted to like that book, and I did , despite some of the Millar Jingoistic twists.

But even I can't support delays that ridiculous. ESPECIALLY in an EVENT.

Right about Ultimates 6-7 everyone was thinking how awesome the ultimate world had become, now its talked about as in jeopardy.

Ultimates 3 should have been a more work oriented artist. I've always liked Joe Mads stuff, but its a poor fit for ultimates , and for a book that needed a rebound.

Delays KILL.

It baffles my mind really, I mean how long does it take to draw a 13 or so issue comic? Should it take longer to write than War and Peace?

I'm becoming inclined, with Loebs recent writing, to believe the rumors that his kid was actually doing most of the plotting, and Jeph really only wrote the words.

Also, Thanos, Ultimates 2 wasn't an event, and it hardly tied in with the other books at all. The most any other book even mentioned it was X-Men having the Liberators as a Danger Room scenario. And the Ultimate universe is FAR from dead.

Well not an "event" in terms of tie ins, but it held up and softened the suspense for other books.

At the time we were told everything in the Ultimate world took place after the conclusion of ultimates.

Therfore certain aspects of other books were dimmed. I'd name Ultimate extinction off the top of my head. Some parts of Ultimate FF were also ruined as a result of waiting for Ultimates.

IMO civil war also really hurt the Ultimate line. It was basically "616-izing" the whole approach of most of the ultimate books.

Is the ultimate line dead?

I'd say no...but mostly becuase of books like USM that ship on sched, and not these preposterously delayed works of fluff we get.

But I really wouldn't know, because i stopped buying anything Ultimate around Ultimates 2 10 when i was waiting 6 months in between comics.

The Ultimate Time frame wasnt effected at all by Ultimates 2's dealys really...

It looks something like this, vaugely...

UXM begins
USM begins
Ultimates begins
UF4 begins
Ultimates ends
Ultimate galactus trilogy
Ultimates 2
all the Ultimates books continue on
Ultimates 3
Ultimatum (whenever it comes out)

Jeph Loeb: Now (somehow) Bringing You Less Subtlety Than Mark Millar

I lol'ed.

Is the ultimate line dead?

No, but not for lack of trying on Jeph Loeb's part. and it's been heavily hinted that Ultimatum will kill it off, and end the universe.

the thing the breaks my heart is... the first Ultimates was what got me into comics. I read that trade, and was blown away. before then, I had read the odd trade here of there, but that one showed me how truly amazing comics could be. how cinematic they could be (helicopter falling sniper gun moment) and it gave me my first real taste of the comic addiction. now I have over 300 trades, and have few issues that I buy each month.

and now Loeb's just doing everything in his power to take what was good about Ultimates and toss it out the window. then burn it. alive. while it screams for mercy. and he laughs. while pissing on it.

...

yeah, I have anger issues over this.

Marvel would never cancel the whole Ultimate line. They make too much money off of it. Ultimatum will probably just shake up the status quo, and get one of the books cancelled.
