It's one of the movies I'm most anticipating and I know nothing about it.

This film is set AFTER the series finale. Based on the comments made by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz, the film takes place in the present day.

it cant be after the series finale. because then they would have to talk about the aliens. you can just ignore them.

let it be the sueprman returns.

^No, they would not have to talk about aliens in depth. A small mention would suffice.

Don't forget that for 9 years The X-Files showed monster-of-the week episodes with some alien episodes thrown into the mix. During the 'regular' episodes, aliens were not mentioned.

Yes, but what can they do in the main time? If a monster is on the loose, then trying to stop/fight alien colonization will be placed on the backburner similar to how it was executed during the series.

How much do you think this film will gross in the USA? Worldwide?

If it does well, then the third film could focus on the alien invasion.

It makes sense to close out the alien invasion with a third film.

I wish I could get excited for this but, I'm not. I thought the first X-files film was mediocre. It felt like a slightly longer version of an episode. This movie should have come out during the series or right after it ended. I'm sure Fox is making this because they don't have any other blockbuster franchises to make money from right now. Of course there's always the possibility that this movie could be good. I'm just wondering how much money Fox decided to spend on this. The first film had an estimated budget of 66million. If Fox goes dirt cheap again I don't see how this movie will be much better than first. I don't see how this movie is going to make good money if it's being released in between The Dark Knight and The Mummy 3.

Fox went a lot cheaper for the sequel, but production might've not required a big budget. Who knows...

The budget for this film is rumored to be $25 to $35 million.

LOL. Deja Vu all over again. Fox tries to make another dirt cheap sci-fi flick that deserves more respect. The total actor and actress salaries probably cost at least 5 million. How much money is being used for the special effects and what director is making this movie?

Chris Carter, the creator of X-Files.

The good news is that Rob Bowman isn't directing the sequel. However, I'm not sure Chris is the best person to direct considering he has never directed a movie. This movie could turn out great or down right terrible.

Rob Bowman is actually a decent enough director, especially if you watch a lot of the earlier episodes, however, he had a bad run of dodgy scripts and studio collaboration when it came to making films

i think it will look like a 2 hour x-files episode.

and if it make 40 milions they alreaady made a profit.

Well who here ISN'T going to see it and buy the DVD aswell? (Unless it's REALLY BAD)

I think they stand to make a lot of money, as long as it's decent enough or beter.

I believe the marketing budget is separate from the production budget. I read somewhere (probably Wikipedia) that marketing alone for Fight The Future was $60 Million in addition to the $60 Million Production Budget.

Im a huge fan of the original series .. the movie kinda sucked ... but i hope the sequel will follow the alien invasion/government conspiracy story, that was always of greater interest to me than the monster ones.

The sequel does not cover the alien conspiracy.

However, the plot does involve a government conspiracy that is not related to aliens.

Well, I didn't buy the DVD of the first mediocre film. I didn't see it in the theater either once all my friends told me it was average. I doubt that I'll watch this in the theater either unless it gets fantastic reviews. If it gets average reviews I won't even be renting the DVD.

This is one thing many of us don't understand. Advertising costs many of these movie companies a fortune to promote these films. Plus half of a film's world wide gross goes to the theaters playing these movies. The first X-files film couldn't have been that profitable for Fox considering that it has taken them 10 years to release a sequel with a much smaller budget.

After 6 or 7 years, I have just saw the movie again, and I have to say that back then I thought it was average, but now, I say it's BRILLIANT. And I think that this change in my mind is due to the fact that since the last month I'm re-watching all the episodes from the first one, and before I saw the movie, I finished with season 5 (the movie takes place between S5 and S6). Watching the X-Files in this way makes the mythology a lot more easy to understand and enjoy.

when does this come out again?... i need a trailer already
