The 90's Fox X-Men cartoon should never be held up as an example of quality in adapting the X-Men in any way, shape or form. It was actually a terribly done show on multiple levels, from voice acting, to animation to dialog.
You mean the 90's kids show with adult themes, respect for continuity, that had to constantly fight to balance selling out and artistic credibility almost every week to air, and started the trend of Saturday Morning cartoons? That show shouldn't be an example?

It's not a good show. It was never a good show. It's production values are terrible. It's dialog is terrible. It's tone is laughable... And terrible. And yes... I watched it every week first run as a teen out of a misplaced sense of obligation hoping each time that they'd get something right beyond a surface level "respect" for the source material which came down to, what? Lip service to core themes dumbed down to a level of silliness? Character designs and costumes that ended up looking bad because of the animation style? General characterization that made each hero and villain one note with subpar voice acting as the cherry on top?
Sorry but whatever you or others say I can never take the reverence this show has seriously. If anything it was at best all the silly overwrought aspects of the comics of the time and even the classic Claremont era boiled down to its ridiculous essence.
In all honesty the last thing I want to see is the MCU for the sake of playing to "90's Kids" nostalgia take any inspiration from that steaming pile of an animated show, I don't care how many endearing emotions it evokes among some fans.

With the utmost respect, and I do respect the time you took to prove your point, I have to respectfully disagree, I think it’s an important show, a milestone in writing for kids show, yeah it’s a kids show from the 90’s and it shouldn’t be the template for a movie in this time and age (unless it was some kind of weird parody), but to dismiss the show and ask for quality animation when kids shows back then didn’t have the budget it required it’s like asking for good CGI in a 1920’s movie, to ask for better writing when most shows from the 90’s had to had the lesson of the week component and this show almost had to fight that, times have changed, and I do think that show was an important one and allowed many mature shows for kids to get picked up, you don’t have to love it, but sometimes you gotta recognize.

Eh... I find that it gave lip service to those aspects. The creators certainly wanted it to be more complex but it's execution is petty inept to my eyes. I mean... These YouTube vids exist for a reason:
Taken out of context or not... Well look at the voice performances, look at the animation... Batman The Animated Series it's not. I think truthfully compared to the peers of it's own time it pales in comparison. Gargoyles, Batman, Exo-Squad even (which has similar animation issues but the writing and voice acting is nowhere near as overwrought and cheesy) all do what many claim X-Men supposedly does but in a way that's to my eyes far beyond in terms of excellence. Points for serialization for sure, but... what else ya got X-Men Animated Show?
The X-Men were a hot property at the time, breaking records in comic shops at the time (Some due to the speculator cover craze sure but the X books were the big sellers of their time in the late 80's and early 90's) and that translated to a fan hunger for this series. I wanted to like it, and like I said, watched it for years because back then that's what you did for super hero properties in other mediums in the hopes that success could be built on and we'd get more stuff, hopefully better done in the future. But even by that low bar... Yeah, I felt at the time that this was not actually good. And I am sure that there was tons of BTS battles with Standards and Practices given they were adapting a comic that for a mainstream super hero title did deal with some weighty issues, often with a strong even mature edge to them. Still... we get a no subtlety in any aspect. It's all shouting, exclamations and excuses for fights with explosions each week. If it at least looked good I would even be willing to give it a pass but can we honestly say it's a good looking show that's well animated? That there were stand out moments of animated artistry?
I get that it's something that tugs on the collective fanboy/girl heartstrings harkening back to lots of people's childhoods and teen years but... I was always disappointed in it and always saw it as a cheesy/lazily flashy contemporary to a lot of shows that, even when they are overrated to a degree, still have a better baseline of quality in terms of the aspects that would matter to an animated show.

Lip service to themes and silliness? Sounds like most modern day superhero cartoons, not Xmen TAS.
These 2 clips show you the that themes were dealt with depth and intimacy. And courage too in the case of nigjtcrawler; exploring the subject of religion and faith in a saturday morning kids show
In fact, i went and rewatched the movie, i might have been too harsh, also i forgot that Aquaman and Into The Spider-Verse were released this year, and those are good, far from perfect but good.
The movie is decent. The first act is pretty really good, the space sequence is awesome, the missing footage is barely noticeable, but then is when it gets erratic, but is not bad, is kinda shallow because the content has been sucked out of it, even the third act that was completely reshoots is not that bad, is just that they left out the movie be bare bones and they took out the meat, that is the best way to explain it.
I might do a short list of good and bad things in the near future, stay tuned!
I rewatched this not too long ago and for some odd reason it doesn’t feel nearly as rushed. But I still believe the story would have used more development. But overall I enjoyed it more than time around enough to bump it up from a “meh” to a “okay”.

It also didn't feel as rushed for me the second time around. I almost started to convince myself they had reinstated some footage and sent a slightly different version to cinemas!
For instance, I only noticed the first glimpse of Dazzler (an aerial shot) in my second viewing, not in the first viewing.
I didn't hate it. It's certainly better than most of the garbage Fox has put out. And better than the last attempt at Dark Phoenix.
I dont know what people were eXpecting. Fassbender is still a treat. McAvoy did what he could with what they gave him. Jean was a badass. Nightcrawler and Storm were dope. Cyclops had his best showing in any X-Men film ever.
Nightcrawler and Storm had no characterization at all beyond Kurt caring about a soldier and Storm being skeptical of Jean’s true nature. That was it. I get that they can only do so much with some supporting characters, but they easily could’ve done more.
Saw this today, and actually enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting. Don’t know why the reviews were so bad, not that the movie is amazing, but it’s average at the very least and in franchise terms better than Origins and X3 and about on par with Apocalypse, which I also enjoyed.
The movie has plenty of pluses, the performances were mostly very good, with oh this McAvoy and Fassbender as some of the obvious stand outs. However, I thought Sophie Turner also did a great job, you rootedness for her Jean no matter what she did. I also thought this was Cyclops’ best showing in an X-Men movie yet, which I know isn’t hard, but Tye Sheridan helped with a good performance. I thought the action scenes were also done really well, and Zimmers score was also really good.
The pacing was a bit off though, especially towards the end, things needed to breath a bit more in the 3rd act. Also the D’Bari and especially Chastain were a waste, her villain wasn’t fleshed out at all and in the end any actress could have taken this role, Chastains talents were wasted.
I liked though that unlike in TLS, this was actually Jeans story and focused on her. I am certainly no Kinberg fan, but he didn’t do too badly here in my eyes, 6.5/10.

You hate the classic animated series but you like the fox films? I love most of the films but the two parter pilot Night of the Sentinels is superior to all of them as a portrayal of the X-Men and the hardships they face.
Is this just an attempt to build up Dark Phoenix? Are you going to say X2 and DoFP aren't that good next?
I honestly don’t think the ‘90s animated series is as great as some people make it out to be. I’ve been rewatching it and it is quite over the top and cheesy. They did great with some of the adaptations (The Phoenix Saga), but it doesn’t hold up as well as a show like Batman The Animated Series.
I think the other two animated X-Men shows are better. Evolution was a great, fresh take and Wolverine and The X-Men had the potential to rival the 90s show, IMO. Still bummed that one was cancelled.
I remember watching that cheese fest. At least it was strongly inspired by the Uncanny X-men comics. I actually liked the characters chosen for the cartoon besides Dazzler. It’s a shame the voice over acting was terrible.
So i watched the movie again for the 2nd (and last) time before it goes out of theatres soon. It did not get better or worse, still a big meh and still scores a 5/10 from me. Its very obvious what Kinberg was trying to do, make a drama heavy character piece with highly charged dramatic scenes. On paper it musta looked good to him. But the biggest problem by far is that I (and the GA) dont care about the majority of these actors playing the characters at all. We have seen better versions of Beast, Storm, Scott, Nightcrawler, Mistique and Jean in previous iterations. Which made me think about the new movies; I only like 3 characters. Fassbenders Magneto, McAvoys Xavier and Evan Peters Quicksilver. That is not enough to carry an ensemble production of multiple films - especially when the latter is hardly used
