The graphics are bad but the reason this game is really turning some people off is because of the bad walkthroughs they've released so far. I mean, the IGN's E3 demo was seriously boring. The only good part was the unique UI / text system.

What? THIS game? THIS game looked like Mass Effect? Now i know I've gone insane. See you guys later, i'm off to eat some cardboard

Graphics-wise, yeah. Perhaps a little less detailed, but not by much. And you're obviously more free when it comes to movements. So what if you're buttonmashing? Over half of the games out there are buttonmashing. It doesn't mean that it'll be a bad game; Castlevania: Lords of Shadows was also buttonmashing, but it was pretty fun IMO. Even though the narrative work of Patrick Stewart was bringing the tone of the game into a more and more depressing mood the further along you played.
The examples go on and on, but I hope you get my point.

Of course it was boring, YOU weren't playing it. There aren't many games that you can enjoy as much as playing it yourself when just sitting by and watching someone else play it, are there?

Most of demos I've watched look fun. The combat, movement and theme of the Destiny demo were really disappointing IMO. Watching other IGN demos like Batman AC, Assassin's Creed R, Dark Souls, BioShock I and others didn't feel one bit boring. They looked and felt awesome.

Still, I understand what you mean. Demon's Souls is among my all time favorites and unless you're playing it, the gameplay looks boring on the surface. Maybe Destiny will be fun to play too (I just their character designs, specially the 3 new characters).

Interesting demo, but it really does look like an xbox or ps2 game.

This game is shaping up to be a stinker so far imo.

This game sells it's self as "make your own character"...but it completely limits your options by forcing you to choose pre-created characters, and the mutant power options look weak..."Shadow powers"...really? wtf is that crap?

Not to mention the graphics don't look great at all...I'm completely underwhelmed by this game so far...hopefully it shapes up, but i just don't see that happening.

I agree that they've done some dumb ass decisions with this game that has so much potential to be the best X-game out there. The pre-made characters and the powers being the most idiotic.
As I've said before, if one could only create your own mutant from scratch, if only choosing from a set of ten or fifteen bodytypes and faces along with a set of civilian clothes (making your superhero suit would wait until you've joined either the X-Men or the Brotherhood for logical reasons) then the game would probably have greatly improved as far as interest of fans go.
And the powers. Have a list of the most common mutants powers and, since they already have three X-Gene slots, let players choose three powers from that list (offensive, defensive and static) that you can use those same X-Genes to master those powers. That is what all mutants are faced with and if the creators if this game wants players to experience the world as a mutant then that would be a crucial part of that experience.

If only someone would hire me as a gameproducer I'd put out some innovative and really fun games on the market, instead of re-hashing old concepts and calling them new.

Im a HUGE X-men junkie and this will be the first game I dont get on release day. Heck whether I get it down the line may fall down strictly to reviews bc Im not wasting money if it sucks

Why the hell would you listen to what reviews say? I haven't played a single game that actually was as the reviews claimed they were. If you don't want to waste cash on a game you are unsure of, then just wait until the price drops low enough and then try it out for yourself and make up your own mind. Never listen to reviewers; they might be the kind of gamers who like football games and so how the hell can they ever give a fair review?
Or here's a wild idea: go to a store and ask to try it out. Most videogame shops let you do this, you know.

You had that kind of experience, I've seen plenty of reviews though that were pretty much spot on with my own opinion. And if there happen to be multiple reviewers that agree that a game is either good or bad, you'd think there might be some truth to it.

I like that you get to chose from 3 characters. It's going to help a lot with the narrative of the story. Kind of like the story mode in Fight Night Champion. I think the graphics are a bit better than what everyone is giving them credit for but they should be a lot better than what they are. Like with most games this fall, I'll probably rent it and see how it is first

Bc like I said, Im not wasting money on something that could potentially be crap. I tend to buy all X-men games first day no matter what but this is one of the few that I actually have doubts about. Im going to wait and gauge the response to it and see if it is even worth getting when its first released

Ditto. Besides by reviews, it isnt simply only what some website or magazine writes, but opinions and feedback from other gamers like myself, for example in this thread. My best bet is a demo, but if they dont do one, Im gonna wait and see what others actually think of this

So if one like sports games, they cant possibly understand any other games? Thats a stupid statement.

No, that wasn't what I meant. I only meant that people that usually go out and buy sports games are a different kind of gamer than those who buy action and RPG games.
From my own experiences with all of my friends, the dumber they are the more likely they are to like sports games or anything that is as uncomplicated as possible; an action RPG is thus not something that a sportsfan would give a good review of.
I'd rather listen to the advice on games by someone who likes games similar to my own taste. So that's why I don't trust reviews because you never know what kind of gamer is writing reviews.

But that might just be my experience.

wut?
The Amasing Dimension was made to look like John Romita Jr had drawn it. I see none of that in this game. It has a simple style without a ****load of dirt and details on the clothes and surroundings that some seem to think is mandatory in every game since games like Gears of War became popular. I thought it looked a little like the graphics of Mass Effect, actually.

In the end, it isn't the graphics that make a game good, it's the controls, the choices you have and the story of the game that makes it a good game.

Mass Effect? Wut

In that gameplay vid, they look like Shattered Dimensions graphics.

And one more thing, that graphics argument is ********. While graphics do not "make" the game, they are somewhat an important part. Would you pay £/$50 for PS2 level graphics?

I agree that they are not the most important part, but they have to be considered.

The graphics on this game look... eh, not the best, not the worst.

Oh i can agree. But there are plenty of people that play the sports titles AND love the RPG's. Im one of em. I play Madden, NCAA, Tiger Woods, NBA 2K but ill be first in line to grab Skyrim and am playing Demons Souls at the moment.

You might not always agree with a review, but they tend to make up a pattern. If a game comes out to multiple poor reviews, there is probably something to it and vice versa(altho snobs will tell you if a game gets great reviews across the board that it couldnt possibly be any good). Id never tell someone to read one review and then decide to get a game or not, but i would tell them to read multiple reviews.

I'm surprised that this game is being released in September....

when last I checked, I thought it was going to be a Dec release......

I am in agreement with the above posters in that I might sit this one out.

Creating your own mutant sounds like a great concept. But, limiting the player to 3 premade characters is just........

I might wait till the sequel is released. Hopefully then, they will expand the "create your own mutant" concept to allow us to fully create our own mutants........

Right now, even if the game turns out decent, it will bomb because Activision isn't doing any real advertising and there is no buzz. With games like Gears of War 3 coming this September, the holiday avalanche of games begins and with titles like Assassin's Creed R, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3 and Zelda SS, I don't think Destiny has any chance.

I just finished playing the original X-men Legends....man I loved that game

Both Legends games were awesome, with the first 1 better than the 2nd, I dare say it X-Men and X-Men 2: Clone Wars (for the Genesis) are also better than the Legends games, if they can re-release the Arcade game, why not re-release the X-Men sega titles (heck even the Capcom X-Men games)...

...I'm also a big X-Fan, and am totally underwhelmed with and not excited for at all with this game...although some of the sites have pre-orders with exclusive costumes which is tempting me (Havok or Emma suits...)...

Not sure if I'll pre-order or not but if I don't I'll wait for gamer/customer reviews on sites, I don't usually read/listen to game reviews (IGN, etc.)...I usually read from like customer reviews on sites...

see.....that's the other thing going against this game, imo.

most people, when they play an X-men game, want to play as their favorite mutant(s). That's what the X-men games in the past have done.

In this game, however, not only do you NOT get to play as your favorite mutant, but you are forced to choose from 3, brand new, made-up characters that are already predefined in terms of looks, name, and backstory.

so.....it's like getting the worst of both worlds.......lol

you don't get to play as your favorite mutant, yet you aren't able to create your own custom mutant.......

This Acro guy is kinda humorous.

Havok: You'll probably like it. Carey's writing the story, so that's a big plus for it. I might buy it at launch, but it'll depend what my semester workload looks like and what else I'm playing come the end of September.

He definitely chooses the wrong game genre to accuse reviewers of being simpletons. I mean, has anyone played sport games recently, he probably hasn't. Nowadays people expect from good sport games complex, deep controls and a fair amount of strategies, to make it as close to the real thing as possible. Games like Madden and Fifa come to mind. And it might sound like madness, but people who like sport games can like RPGs or any other genre too. It's crazy, I know.

Yeah, it's not based on genre. There are plenty of simpleton reviewers out there, most notably the ones who publish reviews based on whether they liked the game or not, but there are plenty of professional reviewers out there too. It's not based on genre, or even medium - the same goes for movie reviewers, book reviewers, comic reviewers. And consumers.

I didn't mean that reviewers in this particular genre of games are idiots, I meant on an overall basis I don't trust what other people say about a game; I try it myself and make up my own mind if I like the game or not and don't let other people tell me what to like.
I hate sports games and get bored after three minutes. I'd rather have something with a good story as entertainment, really. If I wanted sports I'd watch it on TV.
