i'd like to know about all the books, especially this big house of m thing. i think i read the first issue, but i'd like to know what's going on in all the books and how they tie in, if it's not too much trouble.

House of M: 8 issue mini series tieing into Avengers Disassembled. Starring the New Avengers and the Astonishing X-men

The first three issues are on the stands. The 1st two were pretty good but very little happened. Their is some pretty good dialogue in the 1st and an interesting view of the charachters of the House of M world in the second. The 3rd is much better than the fist two. mainly because something actually happens and a plot starts to form. if you've been keeping up on Avengers Dissassembled recently then the cliffhangar will be quite the shocker but If you havnt read Avenger D. then it won't be nearly as good. So far Wolverine is the main charachter.

The Curent X-titles are Wolverine, Uncanny X-men, Astonishing X-men, X-men, X-men: The End, Excaliber, Gambit, Ororo: Before the Storm, New X-men, and Nightcrawler. Those are the ones I can think of but there may be more.

Wolverine
Wolverine is being contoled by some very bad people. He has been on a killing rampage for the last arch and the current one. He killed an important charachter. Its Wolverine at his best, doing what he does best.

Uncanny
Currently being written by Claremont who has written X-men for nearly 40 years. The series has great charachter moments. The art is ok and it has a very old-school feel to it. I'd recommend trying some issues, particularly the most recent, #460 and 461, a two parter called Mojo Rising. This arch is a good jumping on point, tieing into the Wolverine series and showcasing many reunions with once dead charachters. 460 is also just a great issue, especially for long time X-men fans.

Astonishing
Amazing series with fantastic art and sharp witty dialogue. The first 6 part arch was an instant classic and the second arch is also very good, featuring a sentient Danger Room as the enemy.

I'll describe the rest later or if somone else wants to jump in and help me out they can.

i've heard really bad things about milligan's arc. that kinda upsets me cuz i hear he's messing gambit and rogue all up and they are my fave x-couple. but besides that, i hear the arc has been weak and bad.

I really only read Astonishing now. I've lost hope in the X-titles. Especially House of M. I've really been reading a lot of DC. Infinite Crisis is getting me excited more than HoM. Maybe it's just that I like DC better now.

Jean died and came back to life..
Magento died and came back to life..
the X-Men fought racism and aliens and dinosaurs...
Some X-Men were mind controlled against the other X-Men but broke free because of their indomitable will powers..
And marvel had a big crossover event that belittled half the titles and didnt entirely make sense.


....the exact same as happens every year really.

NAh they dont really... maybe that says something about the X-Men comics at the moment.
Personally ive found them all a little underwhelming recently and am pinning the last of my hopes on X-Factor.

I used to come here loads but dont post much at all really anymore.. apart from 2day.. but im drunk so it doesnt count

Nothing controversial is happening. There's no Austen or Morrison any more. The one thing that was good in those days were the discussion.

You know ive said it before.. Whedon's Astonishing, like it or not.. hes playing it very very safe. He hasnt really done anything at all controversial or tried to actually make a proper change to the X-Men. Even when Colosus came back.. he still likes kitty theyre going in to the same old relationship, things have just returned back to the way they were. The danger story was a tried and tested formula.. nothing new or radical.
The only real controversial move hes made that has warranted proper discussion was his reveal about Emma in his last issue and even this i dont believe is as it really seems. Id really like him to try something really big and major and different. If he screws it up it could be a catastrophe, but if he pulls it off it could be fantastic. I think its worth the risk.

Yeah. He's telling good stories, which is all well and good to a point. He's capible of upsetting fans and doing radical things (See Serenity). But AXM isn't breaching any barriers, though I do like his Kitty.

Yeah hes definately capable of it. I just feel that, considering he was only originally going to write 2 arcs, danger being the best he could do for X-Men was disapointing.
It would be a shame if we get another year of his comics and still feel that he has been holding back.
Great writers are remembered for creating new twists or developments that people like.
Bad writers are remembered for creating new twists or developments that people dont like.
The writers that dont try any new twists or developmments? They arent remembered at all.

i like astonishing. the first was better than the second,but the second wasn't completely horrible. I wanna see how this emma/hellfire thing turns out, but i hope she doesn't turn evil again. she was good for a long time, and it would be stupid to make her evil again.

I think Joss will be remembered for bringing life back to the title, but it could be dwarfed by the next writer.

I reckon 10 years time, hel just be remembered as the person who brought Colosus back to life.. thats assuming anyone ever reflects on him having even died. I think people will just forget about that.

It's sad. That was a good issue. What we need is Whedon on an open ended run with full control. Then get two good writers on the other books.

Now if he devotes his next two arcs to the whole S.W.O.R.D and Ord busines, then he could be onto something good. They werent that great ideas but had potential.
Its a bit strange he was opening up quite so many different stories with no intenstion of actually following them through.
Maybe hed planned to be on the title longer anyway.. and they were just seeing how sales would stick out during his first run.
