X-Men - Part 1

honestly, the only things i liked x-men related in this past decade were morrison and whedon. everything else i didnt pay attention too. The X-Franchise has a real convoluted continuity. Earlier in this thread, i was asking for suggestions on what books to buy, but it seems fruitless now. I'll check out schism, buy the last uncanny, and thats it.

Wolverine disagrees with Scott's methods. Right after Scott disbanded X-Force, Wolverine went right behind his back and formed a new X-Force with the same goals and purposes that the Magneto-esque Scott had in mind. My theory is that Logan probably thinks that if Scott were even tougher against foes of mutantkind, then Kurt would still be alive.

I wonder what Kurt thinks of Logan's behavior now ?

I think I might quit all the x-books except X-force and Wolverine. This is getting ridiculous.I also really don't like the idea of Wolverine leading any team but X-force which is rendered useless with Wolverine leading X-men.

He lead the X-Men when they were in Australia. He was.........ok. Of course the X-Men nearly got slaughtered by the Reavers when he was in charge.

I Love Wolverine.Second favorite as a kid.But for the life of me I don't understand the recent thread in media and now comics to make him a leader. It's just not my preference I guess.

I liked Wolverine when I was a kid , but they altered him so much. He was better as a noble savage really. Just a guy trying to contain the beast inside him. Now he embraces it.

It's called popularity. People like Wolverine. Publishers/studios know this. So they want to put him front and center. What does that mean in a team setting? It means he leads and everyone else follows.

Wolverine wasnt X-men leader in Australia. Storm was. She "died" in UXM #248 and Psylocke came forward and picked up the slack till #251. Wolverine wasnt even with the X-men during any of this. He requested a leave of absense and left the team in #246 and when he returned to Australia, he found that the X-men were already gone.

The X-Men franchise have been a walking corpse since they were robbed of their central metaphor and thus half their motivation (besides aliens and cyclical soap opera) in 2005 with M-Day, which was a Quesada/Bendis jam. Until anyone at Marvel can see it for what it is, a colossal failure, anything else is just a stunt.

Tom Brevoort did warn us several weeks ago to prepare for the inevitability of UNCANNY X-MEN being relaunched at CBR. In that he was telling the truth, and I assumed he was.

It was pointed out that due to this, HELLBLAZER is currently the longest running sequential volume of a U.S. comic, not counting ARCHIE (which should be around issue #600 but is far less due to not really counting until about issue #114).

Someone said something prophetic in, of all things, the special feature segment in the DVD of "ULTIMATE AVENGERS", about how the Avengers of the 90's before the Busiek/Perez era were "chasing trends instead of setting them". If memory serves, Tom Brevoort himself said that, but I could be wrong. Now, the X-Men are doing this here. They're chasing after CIVIL WAR's dust as well as DC's, and GREEN LANTERN of all things.

Until the core problems of M-Day are removed completely, instead of partial measures like GENERATION HOPE, I don't think anyone can make UXM what it used to be. I mean think of all the talented writers who have failed to make that status quo work - Ed Brubaker, Peter Milligan, Matt Fraction, and now Kieron Gillen (who, like on THOR, seems to be a hatchet-man whose sole gig is to wrap up loose end continuity stories and do little else). This is akin to a woman who whines about how all her relationships with different men all end the same way - eventually you gotta stop blaming THEM, honey, and take a look within.

It's a stunt. UXM will either return with #1 or be replaced by 2-3 other books with fresh #1's and it will spike sales for approximately one, maybe two months and then things will be right back in standard decline, at best. At worst, it may backfire like giving Daken WOLVERINE and shifting Logan to WOLVERINE: WEAPON X, which was a disaster from which Wolverine's franchise has STILL not recovered. The fact that nobody was demoted editorially for that debacle speaks volumes at the lack of accountability at that level. I get the feeling Marvel editorial are a close knit group, but so close that nobody holds anyone else accountable. And while that may be fine for a tree-house club, for a business that doesn't ****ing work.

See what was so good to me about it was that for once it was simple. Most X-writers focus on big events and giving the xmen these huge, convoluted plots that make no sense (btw who exactly is Hope?) Whedon kept it simple. He took 6 core members and focused on their relationships and the more "family" aspect of the X-men that used to be prevalent in the old days. He made the X-men a superhero team again instead of these mutant outlaws. And best of all, wolverine wasn't the star of damn book like he is nowadays. He was that lovable grunt that he used to be before the 90's. Pretty much he made it feel like classic X-men but updated.
Got to say I agree with both you guys.

I just want teams or a team of X-Men who deal with the core X-Men issues (social outsiders) while dealing with big threats from the villainous mutant community and beyond. Also detailing the relationships, friendships and family dynamics of the team because after all that side of things is what made the X-Men partly popular.

I mean look at all the islamophobia right now that stuff is ripe for an X-writer to channel a mutant analogy storyline for like God Loves Man Kills.
I know PAD touched on it X-Factor but I could really see another good writer taking it and running with it.

Nightcrawler condemned Logan after he found out about X-Force. A few chapters later, Kurt was dead and Logan was upset about the 2 not being able to talk about it. He ended up lashing out at Hope.

Several references have been made to Nightcrawler in Wolverine books. In his solo during the end of the "Wolvie goes to Hell" arc, he appears to Logan as an angel in his subconscious and in the recent issue of Uncanny X-Force, Logan bumps into the AoA Nightcrawler and the sight of him throws Wolverine off his game for a minute. It's almost like Logan is being haunted by Kurt's ghost.

Storm led the team in Australia....there was a moment during Fall of the mutants when he led when she went to get her powers back from Forge

Well, if he would just stop being such a dick...

So what exactly are Wolverine and Cyke fighting over this time for the big Schism event?

well by the preview it looks like Kid Omega returns as a threat to everyone and that could be what triggers this feud.

Anyone have a checklist of the read order of this event?

Maybe Logan finally gets fed up and kills him leading to the split with Scott...?

You know... Marvel just freakin' ticks me off. The X-Men line has been dead for years. Then right when it starts suddenly getting really good again... the entire line... they make everyone hate each other, split up the team, cancel the biggest seller to try and get "new readers" with a new number one (which won't work for more than a month or two), they elevate Wolverine yet again, and once again they're just overthinking it and convoluting the whole mess until it just sucks again.

It really made me laugh in an interview on Newsarama. Aaron or someone said that after Schism there's no place for an Uncanny X-Men book because there is no complete team... yet there's still room for an Astonishing X-Men book, and an X-Men book, and an X-Men Legacy book?!

Yeah, if you can't tell I'm DREADING this plot. I'm hoping I'm surprised by it but I'm not expecting to be. The only way this event will really get me excited is if 1) Jean returns, and/or 2) Emma dies.

Emma should never die.I'm sorry to purists but her and Scott are more interesting than Scott and Jean.I wish they would just simplify the line have two teams one based in California(Not utopia like they first did back in #500) and another in a new mansion in New York.Kinda like an updated Gold and Blue.My X-line up would be

Cali-Cyclops,Emma,Kitty,Colossus,Iceman,Wolverine,Angel,Psylocke
New York-Storm,Polaris,Havok,Marvel Girl,Warpath,Rouge,Gambit,Beast

Xavier and Magneto could go off and do their own thing in their own book.

"Steve Rogers is going to look at the guy different. Tony Stark is going to look at the guy different," Lowe said of Wolverine.

Hurray :awesome:

What about the 10,000 other characters?

Well obviously there would be other books in the line such as new mutants or Young X-men.But those would be my core teams.
