To avoid killing off anyone important right now, they will revive Jean Grey early in the arc, then have her die again at the end.
The reason why Jean isnt back is because they dont know what to do with her other than Phoenix
The reason she isnt back is bc Quesada doesnt want her around and he is ultimately in control of everything; plain and simple. He has gone on record as being a big proponent of the original Phoenix storyline and doesnt feel she should have ever been brought back. Hence she's gone.
It doesnt help that they keep killing her off in other forms of media, and that helps to overxagerate the dead image that people have of herPeople keep using phrases like "they keep killing Jean" or "all Jean ever does is die." This is like the second time she's died. She killed herself at the end of the Dark Phoenix Saga, and then Xorn killed her again 20 years later. That's it. I think Professor X has died more than her.
That was a cliffhanger ending for shock value. She was only assumed to be dead bc there was no brain activity. Her body was still alive. Jean transfered herself back when it was all done. No real death here. She kinda sorta died in Uncanny 281 but survived by shunting her mind into Emma Frost (if I'm remembering that correctly).
I dont see why Jean being alive automatically has to have anything to do with Scott and Emma. You know she could come back, having moved on. With a clear decisive split between the X-men, she doesnt even have to be anywhere near ScottWell thats actually one of the many reasons Whedon's run is so celebrated. Whedon finally took Cyclops and made him into a stern, fully confident, no-nonsense leader. His relationship with Emma also nurtured it since Emma is much more hard edged than Jean was.
I say keep Jean dead. Cyclops' relationship with Emma is infinitely more interesting than convoluted relationship with Jean.
Haha, I really have no opinion either way, so sure if it makes you happyOkay, that's fine... but can Emma still be slaughtered like a pig, as is should be?
I agree I think its a sign of a poor writer if all he can come up with to create drama is to kill off some characters. It gets old fast.Same here. I just wish they'd stop killing people off. Seriously, bring back Banshee, Jean, and Kurt and just leave them be. Tell good stories without cannon fodder. It can't be that hard.
Back in the day all Cyclops did was brood about everything (being leader, Jean, the professor). I think they should stop down playing the relationships with his family. The problem I have with the X-Men is at the end of the day each and everyone of them are nothing more than redundant soldiers. They are born mutants; they are recruited into the X-Men; and they get fight however the X-Men are fighting this week.
Cyclops fall into the same trap. He has two things going on and I cant even them plots. 1. He is the X-Men leader 2. He has a girlfriend. Just about any story involving Cyclops is about the problems with his girlfriend and problems he is having with his leadership.
The plot to "Wolverine and the X-men" was that due to Cyclops girlfriend problems and leadership problems Wolverine had to lead the X-Men instead of him. They based a whole freaking cartoon around that. And now his leadership problems is about to cause "Schism"

True but let's be realistic here, if they resurrect Jean and attempt to have her move on...there will always be that elephant in the room with her and Scott..and wolverine to an extent. Not to mention you just KNOW the fanboys are going to be complaining about Jean and Scott not together.
